I'm just looking for something that will help me generate an interesting encounter to add to my adventure that ISN'T an app on my phone. That's all. Nothing complicated.
I know there are already apps out there that do this in some manner or another, but I wanna see Beyond's take on it.
Not sure if this has been covered already. I want the ability to add encounters from existing official campaigns into my own campaign. For example, I want to take one of the chapters from Dungeon of the Mad Mage and use it wholesale in my personal campaign. I want to import it into my campaign, then be able to tweek the content to adapt it to my needs.
I would also like to be able to take xml exports from 3rd party apps like Game Master 5 which I use right now so I can bring those campaigns (with 10 Adventure modules currently inside of my campaign and growing) into DndBeyond and manage them here.
Or, just buy Leo out and take over Game Master 5 and Fight Club 5! Great tools that need a team like yours with vision and permission from WoTC.

This!!
I have a couple of phone apps that actually aren't too bad, but what I really want is a great web based one that does these things because it's so much easier to manage from an actual computer than the limited screen size and navigation available on a phone.
Edit: added in quote to properly identify what I was "this"-ing :)
I would love to see an intractable screen to be used actively during combat. it could track basic and detailed information on combatants using the expandable widgets you see in the monster and item screens. Perhaps you could even add players to it to track initiative though that would be a bit of a stretch as that would require altering the expandable widgets to be usable with character sheets.
Perhaps this goes beyond the scope of what's expected from the encounter builder but this would be extremely useful.
-Be able to click on a monster/creature and see the stats for it (modifiers, actions, resistances, etc.) as well as adjust HP from a main encounter screen to keep the math easy
-maybe include possible valuables on each creature might have
-add PCs to tracker and see real time HP and any limited use item (spells, ki points, rage, etc.) updates
Random Encounter generator:
Generate random encounters based on region and level, when party is traveling on the road, create encounter based on location and number of members
I currently use "Kobold Fight Club" to help me with the numbers game of calculating my encounters. I believe using KFC (not the fast food chain) as the base on how it works and plugging in the campaign I run on D&D Beyond to pull the characters information from that. I have seen from the developer updates by Adam Bradford that this can/will be an aspect to the encounter builder. What I would like to see happen is aside from calculating CR challenge rating from the monsters but anticipating the characters stats, spells, resistances, any sort of other aspect to the character that may affect the overall ease or difficulty of the encounter itself. An example would be 4 level 4 characters against 3 Awakened trees would be considered a Deadly challenge, but all the PC's have at least 1 fire based spell each would make the challenge less difficult due to the trees vulnerability to fire.
The amount of possibilities and variance required for that would be a lot of work and awesome to incorporate if the devs consider that as well. Either way looking forward to the work they provide for the encounter builder. I have been happy with everything they have done since joining D&D Beyond. Thank you team.

Also, generate random names and fun facts for characters for a little extra (optional) flavor, if your party likes to know who they are trying to kill and what their motives are (or were). Like I said, it could be optional if it just gets in the way for murderhobos.
But for example:
Dirk the Goblin - likes fish, hates shiny armor, trying to impress his dad by fighting for the Goblin Boss.
What I want the most from a basic builder is HP tracking with a quick reference to AC. Initiative would be an awesome plus but I'm not expecting that for now because I saw it on the road map. The ability to add players to the encounter with hp tracking and AC would also be a huge blessing as well. Other than that I think I'll be happy with pretty much whatever we get.
I currently use an excel spreadsheet to track initiative and hp. What I would love to see from Beyond:
Auto incorporating players in my campaign with their hp, ac, spell slots left, etc
Initiative tracker
HP tracker with auto pop up rules for death saving throws
Effect tracker (Rounds left on Rage, etc.) with pop ups for condition explanations
Monster auto dice roller for attack and damage (anything that helps speed up the game!)
Use a VTT like Fantasy Grounds, where all this is already done. I‘d assume to implement all this would take another year and is not scope of a pure encounter builder. Of course someone can have wishes. Maybe someday D&D Beyond will become a VTT...
I would like to see an option to scale the encounter according to players present. There are many times when a player cant make it to a session or has to leave in the middle of one and that really hurts the DM as he or she has to to quickly modify the encounters for the new number of players. You could add a simple algorithm based on the CR of the creatures and the amount of players in the encounter. The encounter builder would then add or remove creatures to maintain a difficult yet defeat able encounter. For example if the group is fighting a group of goblins and chief hobgoblin the chief would remain regardless the amount of players however, the amount of goblins would change.
Battle Maps :
I would like to see a list of all the battle maps we have acquired from purchasing the books to be easily pulled up at a moments notice. I would also like to see a plain battle map that a DM can create and save that can be colored and add simple structures such as houses trees rocks etc. It would also be nice to have pre generated maps of certain environments that the DM can modify such as the beach , caves, ships, mountain pass, camp grounds etc..
Quick Search Bar
I would like to see a quick search bar for creatures that can be filtered by creature type, CR level, and by the book it came from. Another feature that would be nice is a favorite section where the DM could favorite certain creatures that may reoccur often throughout the game so he could easily drag and drop them as needed.
XP
I would love to see a function that calculates the amount of XP each creature is worth within the encounter and then divide it up to the players present in the encounter. This would automatically update in their character sheets i think that would be amazing.
Initiative Tracker
It would be great to see an initiative tracker as it is one of the biggest pains when starting an encounter. It would be great if the players could click an initiative button and it would roll based on the information in their character sheet and the update on the tracker. Then the creatures in the encounter would auto roll and be placed accordingly within the tracker as well.
Status Effects
I would like to see an easy way to change the status effect on both creatures and PC's a simple tool where the DM could right click on the character and select the status effect. A kill option would also be nice just so that its easy to see what creatures are alive or dead. Perhaps there could even be a symbol that appears for how hurt the creature is nothing detailed ofcourse but a injured , hurt, and bloodied status would be nice.
At this point, Id just be ecstatic for a very simple release where I can, in advance, name things "encounter 1" and add several monsters in it, so I have them ready to click on when the encounter time comes.
yer all these ideas would be great but an update is what i want, just some clarity from the team. an eta, status anything, hell even a simple we are defo working on it or its on hold for a bit. i can get over disappointment but uncertainty frustrates me.
please just give us an update. i promise i won't be mad if its bad news
Adam gives updates almost every week. The VODs are available on DNDBeyond's Twitch and YouTube channels.
And if you don't have time to watch the whole video or just want something specific, you can check the summary document: http://bit.ly/DNDBeyondUpdateQnA

Calculate XP and split by party members
I would to have a system that is place that Helps the DM by saying if it would be to easy for the players or deadly we don't over kill the PCs

But for example:
Bed Eye has mentioned that they're prebuilding the encounters from the books, so I would assume this includes XGtE random encounter tables.
Attack: [roll]1d20+[AMOD][/ roll]
Damage: [roll]if([roll:-1:fumble],=1,0,if([roll:-1],<[TARGET],0,if([roll:-1:critical],=1,2{[DAMAGE]}.expand(),[DAMAGE])+[DMOD]))[/ roll]
