BECMI (Basic, Expert, Companion, Master, Immortal) rules. The rules aren’t nearly as flexible as what we have now, but I loved that game. Of course it’s possible that it’s just nostalgia bias but it was a lot of fun. I used to own all of the gazetteers and wish I still had them. I liked the level titles, they fighters and clerics and magic-users automatically gained followers (like acolytes and apprentices). The rules about owning lands and noble titles. Good stuff. Anyone else miss them?
Yes. My first games of D&D were with my mom’s old books that my brother and I found in storage, so even though I’m a younger generation, I grew up with those. The simplicity and CYOA style tutorial were great for introducing friends and starting games quick, and the stronghold building rules are one of the biggest things missing from 5e. Plus, the lethality was really fun.

I myself I have ordered a set of books for the "Old-School Essentials" an OSR (Old School Revival) game which covers BX of the rules covering up to Level 14.
Yes I am planning to get Old School Essentials at some point. It's on my lengthening list of game books I want to purchase. I like dead-tree versions though, so it will take a while to get to them all. Just got another OSR, Stars Without Number, ordered last night.

WOTC lies. We know that WOTC lies. WOTC knows that we know that WOTC lies. We know that WOTC knows that we know that WOTC lies. And still they lie.
Because of the above (a paraphrase from Orwell) I no longer post to the forums -- PM me if you need help or anything.

Yup, I miss them.

My biggest criticism of 5e is that it is too streamlined. It needs more crunch like most people’s diets need additional fiber.
