The warlock pact of the chain provides the following benefits:
Pact of the Chain
You learn the Find Familiar spell and can cast it as a ritual. The spell doesn't count against your number of spells known.
When you cast the spell, you can choose one of the normal forms for your familiar or one of the following special forms: imp, pseudodragon, quasit, or sprite.
Additionally, when you take the Attack action, you can forgo one of your own attacks to allow your familiar to use its reaction to make one attack with its reaction.
Considering that Warlocks, except for those odd-ball Hexblades, are typically blasters using Eldritch Blast and other spells, it seems that the last clause of the pact is very situational. Yes, Hexblades can make use of it as well as any warlock that has multi-classed into a class that gives multiple attacks but it really seems like a missed opportunity considering that Eldritch Blast works similar to multiple attacks (i.e. at higher levels you make multiple attack rolls). I would suggest the amendment of "Additionally, when you take the Attack action or cast Eldritch Blast, you can forgo one of your own attack rolls to allow your familiar to use its reaction to make one attack with its reaction.".
Yes, I realize that you can get the Investment of the Chain Master invocation and then attack with a bonus action but that can be a steep price to pay if you only plan to make only occasional use of a familiar attacking and it uses a bonus action which Warlock tend to make use of (e.g. Hex, Tentacles of the Deep, etc).
Considering how much power ups and options are available for Eldritch Blast it really doesn't need even further buffing. Whereas Warlocks who want to dabble in melee benefit from comparatively little so having a little bonus for them doesn't need to be made an even more niche case. Specially when parts 1 and 2 of Pact of the Chain are already the crux of the Pact Boon.
Pact of the Chain is already the most powerful Pact Boon in the game. The sheer utility of the thing, all the options, etc… it’s bananas 🍌🍌. It doesn’t need to be a top-tier damage booster for all Warlocks because it already does so much else for them. It’s the ultimate toolbox. It doesn’t need to be an automatic shotgun too.
