I do wonder why the digital dice skins are something we have to actively claim as rewards instead of being automatically added to accounts each month.
Because people like to claim things, in general. Amazon has piles of data about coupons that you have to claim vs ones that auto apply, and overall it's not even close. People form a attachment to the discount due to that click of claiming, it feels special for some reason.
And in this case, it gives data on if people actually want the product.
Amazon uses coupons to try and get you to spend more money. DDB is not trying to do any such thing with the dice skins, they're just a free reward for having a subscription. There's no reason they can't just add them to your account, it's not like they're produced in limited quantities or anything.

"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.

I would guess that all forms of engagement are good for the site, but having subscribers click to get their (almost) freebie is probably an active reminder to existing subscribers of membership having its perks. Being a sample size of exactly one, I realize this is hardly a significant point, but I know that I'm more intrigued/interested in the things that require engagement or action than with things that just 'appear' by themselves. I'm not saying I don't like the subscriber character sheet backgrounds, for example, but I also pay virtually no attention to them when they come out.
Also requires you to look at a page where the dice are actually displayed, showing you what you're getting. I remember Deep Rock Galactic did something similar a little bit back - they used to just inject new cosmetic DLC bits automatically, but they got the feedback that people didn't know what they had or where to find it, so they changed it to a system wherein you have to actively click through and Claim Your Swag. Apparently it improved people's experience with buying DLC packs enough for them to hear about it almost immediately.
Plus...well. The unfortunate fact is that some people will actively dis-want anything having to do with Pride, and this way they can simply fail to claim the dice. Honestly think they're missing out, these are a neat design that doesn't scream "PRIDE!" whilst still being Pride-ful, but that's on them, not me. if they don't want 'Pride Shit' on their account, I ain't gonna force it down their throats. Imagine they got more than a few hot 'requests' to Support to 'take that shit off my account' when they gave away Pride sheet shinies automatically before.

quite sad some folks on here lack taste, truly. Rainbow christmas is the season for pretty things!
But also, what other pride stuffs have they given out and is there some way to get them? I just have these dice and the progress flag frame it seems. Anyone know if that's all they've added to the site cuz I wanna trick out my ~bisexual~ PC's sheet for the season.
I wasn’t going to claim these dice, I usually don’t bother with dice and I forget they are even there since I roll on Roll20. And like other banners I dismiss them usually without reading them.
But the dice look great so thanks for providing the link.
And as far as automatically giving dice to accounts I agree many probably don’t even know they are there. And we wouldn’t have such a nice thread to talk about them.
Bummer about the sound (maybe it'll get added retroactively, can design be enhanced once distributed). I was hoping for some clunky stones.
Still, the visual design of these dice are awesome, and while I'm not at all allergic to the usual rainbow glitter tropes, I'm really impressed with the creativity that went into these rocks.
Since these are freebies, does D&D Beyond feel comfortable listing some gamer Pride or general Pride organizations that might be taking donations? I for one would be happy to pay DDB's gift forward in that regard.

Hmm! When I click the link it says that "Sorry our service is not available in your region." Does that mean I can't claim the dice- RIP
They've got another article on the DNDB main page discussing certain content not available in some regions due to laws in that region. The dice are available in my region (Michigan, US Eastern time zone). Check to make sure some location blocking software didn't default you to some region in which you're not located, and change it if it did. There are some regions that want to enforce bedroom rules, and DNDB has to obey the laws of the land if they want to do business there, even if they don't agree with those laws.

i noticed this too, no crit animation and for some weird reason, no sound to them. kinda eerie.
but the dice are gorgeous on their own, the geode thing looks a lot more natural than just splashing rainbows all over them
Will definitely be using these dice! They look great!
Good call, thanks for posting! my instinct to immediately close all banner ads almost cost me cool dice!
Me too, but I was lucky and got the banner twice, so I posted the link for folks.

True, but the psychology of it is still at play.

So far it’s just the frame and the dice.
