Not only will I now never subscribe to DDB...I was legitimately thinking of making the swap for the next edition before all this. I love the idea of VTT but WotC is just squeezing the golden goose to death.
I will no longer be purchasing WotC based products until a fair licensing agreement for the community is put forward. It is now not enough to just keep the current OGL. We need a stronger license with firm, clear, understandable, and most importantly COMMUNITY FIRST language. One that in no uncertain terms assures us that WotC understands their role as a publisher and respects their community.
My annual is up at the end of the month, so I downgraded to start with but I'm wondering what happens to my sheets if I cancel entirely? I've got 30+ characters, but only about 4 in rotation at the moment, do you get to choose which 6 sheets stay active?
After 48 years of playing D&D, and one of the original guinea pigs, the new policy has made it abundantly clear they now care about the Deity Mammon more than the game. I have started my search among the many, many other game systems that can keep money in balance to sanity. I see no reason to give them any more of my hard-to-come-by cash than the hundreds I already have. And a note: Once I -- and thousands of other players -- make the adjustment to a new system it will be extremely difficult to convince us to swap our thinking AGAIN to come back. They just killed a 50-year legacy.
It was very hard to fit how angry I'm feeling into 400 words, eventually I went with.
Your betrayal of the community in attempting to subvert the OGL 10.a is disgusting, it undermines my trust in the perpetual licences you peddle to us and shows you as unworthy to carry this great games legacy forward. I ran 3.5 throughout the last time you pulled this stunt in the 4th ed era. We do not need you to play, we know or can teach the rules already, we have our minds, we have our imagination, you are surplus to requirement.
I hope that I don't get dragged out and set on fire for saying this here, but I'm not quite ready to cancel my sub just yet. That said, if the new OGL turns out to be what it appears to be, there is no way I'll be moving to 1D&D. I'll stick to using the core 3 5e books I own physical copies of and the fantastic Kobold Press stuff I already own. Not sure what the paradigm will look like for my online games at that point, but I'll get it sorted I'm sure.
Will unsubscribe as soon as I'm done with my current game, or until I can convince the rest of the party and DM to go analog. Reckon the sheets/campaign might break if I unsubscribed while the books are being shared and used.
I had a yearly sub, so was planning to cancel before it expires but wasn't in a rush. New leak pretty much sealed the deal that even if they walk back, they'll try again, so if it's sales data they want they got it.
Left feedback that they're losing customers that have probably bought all their books, and would have continued to do so in the future.
Also felt the need to let the DnD staff in the company know that we don't blame them, and know there's nothing they could have done. Just thought I'd slide them a bit of positivity, cause they're absolutely getting hit in the crossfire of this war Hasbro and the execs started.
I have just unsubscribed, and will be moving my characters to another character creator. DDB is the superior character creator out there, and I have spent hundreds of dollars on books and other content, as well as a master sub for about 2 years to use to run my games and share my content with my players or DMs that run for me that couldn't afford it. I will not resubscribe or spend another penny on this website unless we get confirmation that OGL 1.0(a) will remain in effect for whatever they will end up calling OneDnD when it releases as a full edition.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Leaving OGL 1.0(a) untouched and making SRD 5.1 CC-BY-4.0 is a great first step. The next is a promise to do the same for future editions. Here's a discussion thread on that.
As of right now, 67.1% of people who voted have unsubscribed from DDBeyond. So as of now that's over half of all voters have unsubscribed, with about 23% or so waiting for any official statement before they unsubscribe as well.
Please do remember to keep the comments from trying to convert users. Let's keep this as more of an analysis than just another thread on the dumpster fire of an OGL.
Question about unsubscribing: does that mean all "privileges"/features go away NOW, or do they persist until the end of your subscription period?
My sub ends in September - so if I unsub now, does that mean my ability to start campaigns, share content, etc., goes away NOW or continues until Sept?

Your subscription benefits are all active through the end of your prepaid subscription term. If you cancel now, nothing else changes until that September renewal date. I canceled first thing this morning and it tells you as much when you go through the process.
I'm in the minority that think maybe asking companies who make millions off of D&D to kick some back to WotC is not terrible. But it needs to be based on profit, not revenue, and it needs to be higher than $750k. And WotC getting a license to everything forever? Abso-freaken-lutely not.
FWIW - up to this point I'd brought EVERYTHING on D&D Beyond. That stops now.
I Cancelled my Master Tier Subscription January 12th 2023 because of "OGL" 1.1

I Cancelled my Master Tier Subscription January 12th 2023 because of "OGL" 1.1 - Resubscribed 28th of Jan, now the SRD is in CC-BY-4.0
You won’t lose your books. You’ll be restricted to 6 characters and not get “perks” each month nor access to beta features that they stopped developing a long time ago.
DICE! I keep forgetting that there are digital ones on here! I love the shiny clack clacks I have in my bag.
I have unsubscribed. It is a shame. I really enjoyed my time with the service but this is a bridge too far

WotC just made another Paizo fan!
Yes, you choose that.

DDB is great, but it could be better. Here are some things I think could improve DDB

Unsubscribed!

Your services will continue until the end of your current subscription, it just won't auto renew after that.

Thanks, both of you.

Considering that it is a clear sign of monetization.
The onednd will nickel us to death.
I'm finishing my campaign, then I'll unsubscribe. I will lose those online books I paid :(

I've unsubscribed. I've also lost any enthusiasm I had for the upcoming movie & series.
