Be sure to cancel your DnDBeyond account that way they will know you are never coming back to spend money ever again.
This is a very ineffective form of protest.
You know what IS a good form of protest? The short position I just put on HAS, the money I’m going to invest into other systems, and the word I’m spreading to other people to fully boycott wotc and anything related to them.
$peak their language. That’s what you do. Not financial advice by the way lmao they’ve just made it easy. There are SO MANY other TTRPGs to play out there, why put up with this?
You can have 5 or 6 active at anytime, and you have access to any sourcebooks you've purchased.
Liked the utility of the site, was an annual subscriber, dropping a few hundred on books and such. Ended subscription when they started promoting fundraisers to bail out arsonists & rioters, and promoting other distasteful degenerate crap a while back. People think that kind of thing doesn't matter, but it does. Not giving money to people who hate you is just common sense.
Know what blows my mind about all this? The past few years; D&D was making more money than it has EVER made before, thanks to a confluence of numerous factors that could never be repeated. (One being a global pandemic; let's hope it isn't repeated) They were sitting pretty atop a pretty stable player base... And now that's all burning. And for what? To get a share of the profit margins of theird party publishers? Those companies make PENNIES compared to WOTC.
They've flushed away wads of 100s to try and grab a few rolls of nickels; it's mind-boggling.
This is a sad state of affairs. Have unsubscribed. Will wait to see what my playing group does and WotC's statement, but chances are high I will delete the app and then the DnDB account. I just don't see how they can earn back the trust. I will be keeping an ear out on the maneuvering of the corporate heads well after the dust settles...
I've had a master tier sub for years...to the point where I didn't even bother keeping track of when it renewed.
....of course...it auto renewed yesterday. /sigh
Ahh well. Unsubbed and wasted 30 bucks. Time to start looking for another home/system for me and my players.
Just so you're aware, it does look like you get to keep the benefits of the sub after unsubbing, except for the number of characters you can have at a time.

The only reason I'm playing D&D is due to third party content. I've been completely uninterested in the content D&D put out in the last three years. From third party content you get better monsters, betters adventures, better classes, and better spells. The only thing I can think is that WotC believes they can somehow get all that extra money from their content creation? WotC isn't allowed to write edgey content anymore, so good luck trying to get the traditional gamer market, we generally go elsewhere for content and just use your core rules. And then WotC wants essentially a prima nocte move to censor other content designers content - NO. The last thing I want is to buy content that passes WotC's purity spiral.
The leak is as of yet unconfirmed. The OGL is as of yet unfinalized. The nefarious plots people have suggested are contrary to the past 20 years of Dnd behavior and contradict Wizards stated plans and goals for the new OGL.
While I understand cause for concern I think the community is being a bit rash and a bit hasty. I am waiting at least until a new OGL is released or some action is taken by Wizards before I turn my back on the game or it's team.
I'm in the middle of a campaign and all of my players rely on my content sharing account. So until I figure out the smoothest way to transition, I might need to hold on to my sub. But not because I want to. I had a chat with one of my players last night, we might just go good old pen and paper.
I never did subscribe. Nor did I ever purchase anything from Beyond and for good reason. I only ever used the forum to scout out players. My issue with a Digital platform is that when you purchase something you agree to their terms. If they want to at any time they can update or even remove anything you have put money into. Sure its a handy service and comes with some nice tools but thats how they sucker you in. In any case Im done with Wizards and my current D&D campaign will more then likely be my last. Been playing D&D since the late 80s. Its time to move to another system permanently. I will not touch anything with a Wizards/Hasbro label on it ever again. They have really shown their true colors with this OGL crap. Personally even if they back up and admit their mistake. To much harm has been done at this point. Screw them. They deserve to fail.
Being owned by WotC is a recent development. I'm not sure that I have purchased anything since that happened as my trust levels for a Hasbro owned company is and always will be very low. I feel very sorry for the DnDBeyond guys - they've gone from the peak of pride and happiness to the horror of realizing they are now working for really foolish people.

This has been my stance until today- but extended radio silence has made my decision.
All they needed to do was say 'yeah - nah - this leak is fake, the OGL isn't finalised yet - but it totally isn't this - more to share when we are happy with the direction'
I wont post the actual dialogue here so I don't get banned or worse " Canceled" but of you have seen this movie you will know the line....and that is how I feel about all of you moaning about this whole OGL thing......
And no one here cares. We are looking out for a thing we love and enjoy. We are making sure it does t crash and burn. And if it does it wasn’t from our inaction. what has been done is wrong. If you don’t agree or care… I mean that says something. But I can safely say we don’t care about what you think.
yeah cleary shows you love and enjoy...yup sure does. It wont crash and burn...dont give yourselves that much credit. Play the game or dont....just stop whining I love the game the way it is...the way it will be and the way it was....
Hi! Hello! This is a thread to count the metrics of how many people are doing what. That is the purpose of this thread. Please take what you think others should do to another thread on the topic of the OGL. Thank you for your understanding that this thread should be a place for analysis of numbers, and perhaps people commenting what they voted on. Take care and happy gaming!
A combined 67.2% having unsubscribed, 25.2% waiting for official response, and 7.6% keeping their subscriptions.
Please remember that this is not a thread for debating the OGL, or trying to sway people. Please take those kinds of posts to other threads on this trashfire topic. Thank you!
My Subscription was due to renew Tomorrow...It no longer is. I added a very strongly worded (yet civil) message to my unsub.

Canceled
hope the brass is happy, I was looking forward to one D&D oh well, way to many candles on the cake 🎂 and now the house is on fire 🔥

Ah yes. Because using swear words really shows how erudite you are.....
I cancelled a couple months ago, and just came back today. I have access to all my 36 characters still. Kinda surprised, but there it is.

Not being able to say that speaks volumes
