Question of the day (from me) - If you had to be a monster (besides any playable race! - I see you sneaky people!) which one would you want to be? And which one would you hate to be?
Bonus points if you explain why for each one!
Being a dragon would be neat. Or a doppelganger. Shapeshifting is cool. Fae creatures would also be top tier because I want the power of invisibility.
As much as I love them, I would hate to be a mind flayer. I'd have to constantly submerge myself in water and eat brains.

I would really like it if Bullywugs were a playable race because I really want to be a frogman, I am not sure why.
There is also the obvious dragon.
This may sound weird, but if the dolphin delighter could transform into a humanoid form, I would love to play one as the Encantado.
I wouldn't want to play a lemure because they are supposed to be as tortured as possible.
Also a redcap wouldn't be fun to play because they have to murder to survive and every one of my Dnd characters try to avoid killing their enemies as much as possible.

Well, since I can’t pick kobold, I think beholder. I mean, who wouldn’t want to be a floating meatball with eyestalks what can reshape reality around itself? 😜

I'd love to be a couatl. A near-eternal celestial being, full of nobility and purpose, capable of seeing everything, speaking to everyone, appearing as anyone/anything, and with magic that can heal and protect? A pretty, flying snek? Sign. Me. Up.
And on the flip side, I'd hate to be any of the Sorrowsworn. To be the monstrous incarnation of misery, only capable of perpetuating suffering on everyone and everything I stumble across? No thank you.

There's the Grung, which are pretty similar. Though yes I think Bullywugs should be playable too.

Great: Dragons as said many times, or naga. Maybe a elemental lord. Really anything (nigh) immortal & a place to call my own would work.
Hate: Anything less than I already am. I'll leave it to each of you to decide the length of that list.
Question that's closely related to my last comment:
If you could choose one monster (from the Monster Manual or other source) to become a playable lineage in a 5e supplement, what would you choose? As weird as it sounds, I'd like to see a playable Myconid. I think there's a bunch of fun traits they could have, many taken straight from the stat block.

Gargoyles. I think they could be a fun counterpart to Aarakocra.

Tardigrade. They are the tarrasques of the microscopic world. Or I guess I could just be a tarrasque, and be a tarrasque of the tarrasque world.
As for which one I would hate to be... I guess gibbering mouther. They just don't seem to live very fulfilling lives.

I would love to be a dragon - one of the ones that can shape into human form.
I would hate to be a otyugh or neo-otyugh. They have to live in poop. While a mindflayer might be repulsive to some, I imagine a grand movie career in Japan =)

Giant Spider or Lurker.
There once was a creature called a Lurker, like a big ass squishy thing that would enfold you, much like a cloaker. I always mentally placed it in a category with mimics and piercers and such. Might have the name wrong, though, as I don’t have my old books handy.
Giant Spiders freak people the hell out.

You're close. Lurker Above.
But the question was - wanting a monster as a playable race... you'd want Giant Spiders or Lurker Aboves as a playable race?

I think a gorgon race could be cool, but I know that people would just call them "Medusas." Garhg.

Honestly, I'd like some playable elementals. Maybe a bit niche, but an intelligent being of living water/fire/air/lightning/stone/smoke would be pretty awesome from an RP and worldbuilding standpoint.

Heh. Would you prefer Medusas or...
Very few things really nag at me for a long time....i try not to let persistent issues weigh on my mindset.
but this hill i will die on....i will never forgive this atrocity of what D&D calls a Gorgon! Medusa is the proper name of one particular Gorgon!
also, i will die on the hill that Pineapple is an acceptable pizza topping.
i just love that the D&D gorgon is a separate take on the catoblepas, and that the name comes from an obscure English dude. I haven't had "gorgons" in my game ever, unless it refers to the strange and peculiar cursed beings who haunt the coastal islands...
also, one of my standard questions in any interview is "does pineapple belong on pizza?". I also ask what he flight speed of a laden swallow is.

I would also choose Wraith. Way back in 2e I had an opportunity to play in a Monsters campaign and got to play as a wraith, but back then they were waayy scarier: (http://dedpihto.narod.ru/games/Monsters1/MM00302.htm).
