Not planning on seeing it. Canceled my Paramount + subscription once the show was announced, too. Will watch it and resume Paramount + if OGL 1.0a is left alone.

Not this again.
Paramount is not diligently paying close attention to the actions of a bunch of nerds who sit around rolling dice. That is not how things work.
They might be paying attention to the borderline larpers. I was in the states at the time when one of the Harry Potter movies first showed and went with friends to an opening night. A large contingent attended dressed up which made the press adding a bit of extra publicity for the movie.
They'll certainly care about internet search results that may come up for "Dungeons & Dragons" at the time and I suspect they'll have at least half an eye on things.
Just hope they don’t go too overboard with the “comically ruining the moment” humor. It’s good in small doses, but when they try too hard you get the last two Thor movies
Agreed that it feels like Thor 5 with the action / humor / classic rock trailer. That said, the last 2 Thor movies were the more successful 2 Thor movies, being #25, 19, 14, & 16 by global box office out of all the MCU movies. No accounting for taste I suppose.
I'm pretty sure the breath weapon of the dragon at the end of the trailer is just a cone of lard.
If you've played in Out of the Abyss... there is an oversized red dragon there too.
I haven't, but if I do, I'll be sure to add "Lard Breath" to its statblock.
If you trigger traps in its lair that coat you in a mixture of egg and potato starch, get ready for it to combine its fire and lard breath for it's ultimate attack, Dragon Fried Adventurer. The golden medallions you find in its hoard include a juicy meaty center.

I mean, if I were a dragon... that sounds kind of delicious... and a good idea.
"The bridge is protected by an ancient trap!" - Every D&D Party Ever
In all seriousness though, the move looks neat. I was worried that it would just be a regular movie with the D&D label stuck on it. The Owlbear, Mimic, Displacer Beast, Red Wizards of Thay, and dragon convinced me otherwise.

I think I liked the first trailer better. That one, I think I got a better sense of the characters and got a sense that, yeah, that would happen at my table. This one kind of leaned too heavy in the action-movie side. I get it, you need to appeal to different audiences, not everything has to be for me. And above all, I'm still going to see the movie, it didn't turn me off or anything. Just preferred the other trailer.
My D&D group are talking about cancelling our table session for that week and going and seeing it as a group instead. Should work well, because most of our partners aren't interested in D&D.

Heh, weird, the first trailer made me worried - and gave me the .... other D&D Movie vibes, that we shall not speak of.

I cannot deny it, this looks really cool and just this trailer alone blows away everything to do with the last two D&D movies. Too bad WotC pulled nonsense right now so I cannot see it.

The age of OGL is over. The Time of the ORC has come!
The moment that WotC declares OGL 1.0a "de-authorized", "revoked" or any such nonsense is the moment I release as much content as possible under OGL 1.0a and say, "Sue me WotC". OGL1.0a cannot be revoked. If thousands of us do it, the countersuit will be a class action suit.

You’re choosing not to, unless somehow you believe a) WotC has the power to directly control your actions and b) they’ve decided to use this power to make less money for some reason. I respect your decision to make your voice heard with your wallet, but in general I’m not a fan of the “why did you make me do this” position

I'll watch it in theaters once for every person in this thread who says they are going to boycott the movie.
So that would be 116 times so far according to this earlier thread. I confirm here. Enjoy!
So far, the count is 0! Sorry you wasted your time in that other thread, next time read more carefully.
Yep, you did well to bravely post on a thread with no poll. :')
Hi, this is a thread about a new trailer that dropped, not your internet drama. Besides, hard core DnD Begoners have already admitted to creating alt accounts to avoid mod sanctions of their primary accounts (though I thought they were all quitting?) so the integrity of any polling data of the DnD Beyond community on OGLs, bans, or how many times someone needs to see a movie to commit to a joke is unfortunately suspect.
What did you think of the trailer? I liked it a lot. particularly the Hugh Grant joke about going to another room because he doesn't want to see Chris Pine die. Also because Hugh Grant is hoping Daniel Craig may make a cameo because of Chris Pine joking about the Glass Onion relationship going over everyone's head.
So about the channel misplacement, because technically this thread should be in Streams & Video.

I'be been thinking about it and I disagree.
I think we should watch the DnD movie in the cinemas at the opening weekend - and I'll not boycott the TV series either. (In my country, P+ is sadly not available - I'd subscribe to it because of the Star Trek series.)
I agree with the statement "DnD is undermonetized" - I don't agree with the conclusion of the management team. Their strongest income possibilities lying in TV/movie projects. Let's face it - DnD books, Beyond subsciptions, etc. will never make huge money... good movies and TV shows, and merchandising are the real cashcows for the company. This is why this whole situation is stupid AF. OGL never covered DnD trademarks, a better management could launch movie/TV projects years ago - and TTRPG could be a little side project for them. There is no need to piss of their fanbase, the community, the 3rd party developers if you could focus your efforts to the movie industry.

This one gave me more confidence.
That's fair. Just a personal taste kind of thing.

Well to tell the truth I have seen the cartoons from years ago.

Sadly there is no Paramount+ subsciption in my country.
I'd subscribe to P+ however - solely because of the Star Trek shows, and a little bit because of the Halo series.
Okay bye
Hey I wonder if we'll be getting an owlbear subclass to coincide with the Tiefling Druid character?
There, now it's D&D game-related 😃
