If you were going to give a gift of a book to someone in person, obviously you buy the book and give it to someone. But can you give them online content (sourcebooks, adventures, etc.) and/or memberships on dnd beyond for their account? I'm just wondering if that's possible. The master tier subscription mentions sharing content with others, so does that mean everyone can see your sourcebooks, or people in your campaigns, or people in campaigns can use your content? Or does that allow you to buy content for others?
Yes, anyone can gift content (Sourcebooks & Adventures) from The Marketplace. However it is not currently possible to gift a subscription (due to obscure tax laws as I understand it).
As for subscriptions, only the Master Tier sub allows for content sharing. When anyone in a DDB campaign activates content sharing for that campaign, all content owned by anyone in the campaign will be shared with everyone in the same campaign. Content sharing is capped at 5 campaigns per account, but if someone else activates the sharing for a 6th (or more) campaign, the content will still be shared.
The problem with gifting a subscription is that it is an ongoing thing, so it is essentially tied to the payer. That makes it problematic to gift. If someone was able to gift a subscription completely, the recipient would be either getting access to the gift giver's account information (since that would be part of the account history) or be no gift at all (relying only on the recipient's account information)
