When will the next D&D version, edition, extra rules, what ever come out? Also when it does come out, I think it would be cool to have wargaming rules in it for large scale battles..

Fighter: We need to get out of here! The Goblins are overwhelming us!
Wizard: Time to use that sketchy item the DM never stops grinning about *rolls a nat one*
Barbarian(in rage as usual): Aw Hellllllll Naw . . .
My answer would be "see what the revised D&D actually IS and then make a decision".
So far we've only had snippets in UA/playtest which are not representative of the final result. So why anyone is making a decision before seeing that result is baffling to me. But to each their own.

It should be backwards compatible (they say it will be and all the UA releases so far is pretty easily backwards compatible), so I'm definitely going to juggle both and keep what works best about either.
1) Since the new PHB will only contain 9 races and 4 subclasses per class, I expect some of my favorite character options and combos from 5e won't make the cut to be updated right away. So I will need my 5e books to access these things.
2) Some of the content in 2024 will either be brand new, like the College of Dance Bard, or drastically changed like the new Dragonborn/Goliath and the updated Keen Mind feat - so I'm eager to see what new combos and interactions I can devise beyond using PHB only.
3) Most of what I want to keep from 5.0 can be found in Xanathars and Tasha's, i.e. the books that are getting "special treatment" next year. I expect any book after Tasha's is fair game too, e.g. Fizbans, Van Richtens, MPMM, and the Bigby's book this year.
If you're not willing or able to to discuss in good faith, then don't be surprised if I don't respond, there are better things in life for me to do than humour you. This signature is that response.
I'm dubious that Bigby's and to a lesser extent MotM will be revisited. People would be pissed, and I wouldn't blame them.
By "fair game" I don't mean those books will be revised, I mean they'll be directly compatible with 5.5e even in sanctioned play/AL.
Ah ok fair enough. I'm not versed in AL, but I certainly agree that they'll be compatible with 1D&D - WotC has said as much a few times now.

Definitely using both for a couple of reasons:
1) Since the new PHB will only contain 9 races and 4 subclasses per class, I expect some of my favorite character options and combos from 5e won't make the cut to be updated right away. So I will need my 5e books to access these things.
