it is definitely going to be a big celebration as a result of the 50th!
that also means we have at most one more UA, too.

There'll probably be early access on DDB for pre-orders.

Only for people who get the physical & digital bundle preorder. Everyone who only gets 1 version instead of the bundle will likely get access to it on the official release date.
It’s probably worth noting that my original post may be incorrect. They posted a graphic with the date, then took it down pretty quickly and reposted without the date. And there is a vecna adventure book due out on that same date, which also had a date and did not have a change. So the question is whether the mistake was in leaking the info, or someone in graphics doing a cut-and-paste they shouldn’t have, or if it’s an internal date they didn’t mean to release, or something else. Really at this point, 4 months out from the date, it seems unlikely it’s the actual date, or they’d probably have started the hype train already.
I could also see, as DDB has been hosting the playtest, I could see DDB hosting a sort of SRD free preview of the finalized rules.
They've promised to the SRD/Basic for the new rules, and that will be freely available on DDB for people to play with.
Yes, I'm saying we may see that before the actual books. 5e's free basic rules were released a few weeks before a starter set which came out a month before the PHB.

Oh I agree, I was more objecting to the "preview" label. Basic is a fully-realized standalone game.

I agree with this, though I'll add that the 'hype train' will probably start with D&D Direct, so the silence we're seeing now isn't too out of the ordinary. (Though I'm still itching for news personally.)

Is D&D Direct the next big showcase they might use for an announcement? If so, when is that?

Oh, that's fair. I'd say the SRD does a sort of double duty of "community service" but also released amid marketing to boost sales of the PHB a month down the line.

According to enworld, the PHB comes out May 21.
The source is a graphic with a Pax unplugged logo.
That soon, hunh? I honestly didn’t expect it ‘til 3rd quarter, but it makes sense to push it out for Pax U.

I suspect they're done with PH playtest, given the time needed for everything.
Still room for some DMG/MM test, though.
Meanwhile, the "Making of D&D" book is debuting the day before Origins 2024.
Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
They are leaving a way out.
"The Player's Handbook is planned for a May 21, 2024 release, although current dates could change."
Which I think is wise.
The PHB is the only one that has this in the article the other books just have a release date. The link is in AEDorsay's post above.
CENSORSHIP IS THE TOOL OF COWARDS and WANNA BE TYRANTS.
Am I right in thinking they said that the MM and DMG would release later on?
If so, I think the early date makes sense and should have been foreseeable (not that I did forsee it).

Do we know when this will come to DND beyond?
Most likely concurrent with the physical release.

Books have been releasing here alongside the physical releases at least since WotC acquired the site; no reason to expect that to change now.
Since we don't even know the data of the physical release (the above was taken down and may have been aspirational rather than predictive), no.

That seems to be the general expectations we might not get updates to those until 2025 even.
