There are links to various settings from both spelljammer and strixhaven including greyhawk, forgotten realms, dragonlance, ravenloft (there are Dhampirs in Strixhaven), etc.
So, forgotten realms applies better to reality. Got it. LOL.
I'd have to vote for produce flame or fire bolt. All these other ones are useful but the ability to have fire without having to carry around any firestarter (or for if you dont have firestarter equipment anyway) is a real lifesaver.

yup, Prestidigitation also can instantaneously light or snuff out a candle, a torch, or a small campfire....and has other utility, unless you are looking to get into battle or do damage.
You know, if I had access to Spare The Dying in real life, I would absolutely become an EMT/Paramedic. The ability to stabilize the most critical patients until they can get the proper medical help they need would be absolutely amazing.
I've been thinking. See, the problem with Friends is that the target knows, once the magic wears off. But .... IRL, magic is not a thing. The vast majority of everyone sane would discount the possibility that they were just put under a spell - and the few who didn't would look outright insane.
So yea. Definitely Friends is the best pick. Unless you want to act selfless for some reason, in which case yea, Spare the Dying is massive. If you have the right sort of job. Personally, I'm 52, and so far I never would have had a chance to use it.

Blanket disclaimer: I only ever state opinion. But I can sound terribly dogmatic - so if you feel I'm trying to tell you what to think, I'm really not, I swear. I'm telling you what I think, that's all.
Regardless of belief in magic or not, they KNOW you did something to them - flashing lights, hypnosis, pheromones, whatever. Then they become hostile. If they are violent, they will try to beat the shit out of you. That's a bad idea.

You KNOW social media, search engines, cell phones and laptops do something to you - they steal your data as routinely as you draw breath.
That can make you angry. But do you really act on it? In any way, shape or form, what so ever? Now, I don't know you, but my guess is no. And this would be the same. You KNOW, but all that impotent anger isn't going to go anywhere or do anything, because you can't prove anything, the caster is protected by the law, and you'll look insane, and worse yet silly, if you make a scene because someone used magic on you.

The law? You're going to hide behind the law? Everybody makes mistakes.
What - I'm hiding? What am I hiding? Do you disagree that the caster is protected by the law, if the target get's violent?
Caster uses friends to convince some poor guy to sign an unattractive contract of some sort - selling his house at below value, for instance. The poor guy is predictably upset, and punches our caster in the jaw.
The contract isn't affected by this at all, but the target of the spell get's a law suit on top.
Is there anything wrong with my logic here?

If it is too far below value, there would be legitimate concerns of duress. Contracts that are too one-sided do not always stand up in court. And Friends only gives advantage on Charisma checks, for all of one minute. It would take more than one decent success to get someone to sign such a contract, regardless.
And it's basically impossible to complete a sale of something like a house with just the owner. There's a whole bunch of paperwork that needs to be completed, and usually both parties will be working through realtors- you'll have yours and they'll have theirs and even if you could somehow charm the owner into accepting a ridiculously low bid (dubious given that you are unlikely to meet them face-to-face until the deal is completed, if at all), the realtor would point out that the offer was ridiculously low. Also, it takes more than two weeks, minimum, to complete the transaction, so the one minute duration of Friends wouldn't help because they'd come to their senses and cancel well before you could actually sign any paperwork.
At best, Friends would let you walk into a pawn shop and maybe talk them into giving you a couple extra bucks for your old TV. And you'd probably still have to make a run for it once the duration expires (people really tend to underestimate how long most business deals take).

The point is, no it wouldn't because its 1 minute duration simply isn't long enough for that.
Most negotiations are way shorter than one minute. Hey, I want to buy this thing, but [I only have X] - [I think it's overpriced] - [my aunt has this, and she says the cheap one is better] - [we're both X, so I think I deserve the X discount, right?] - [come up with more as you like, there's an infinite supply].
You want to overcomplicated this, because it favors your argument. But getting a discount when I buy a pair of jeans, or a TV set, or even a car doesn't take many instants. It's like magic, it happens while you watch, and still you don't know how it happened. And I can do it - in the real world, easily - but having Friends would make it so much easier, so much more profitable.
It's even better if you're buying second hand stuff. You need more knowledge of what's actually valuable. But [no, sorry - this is mostly junk. It's nice, but not worth a lot. I'll still give you X, but that's all I can do]. Then struff straight off to the internets and sell it for 10x that.
A much better counterargument would be that in a world with internet, you'd gain notoriety as someone who tricks people out of valuable stuff, and you'd eventually have a much harder time finding anyone to scam. But .. by then, you should be able to retire =) Maybe.

That doesn't follow what I was saying. Someone implied that spelljammer would apply to RL than other settings, which i though was funny.

The stickler for me is that after the minute, they become hostile to you. Every interaction ends with somebody hating you.
