Regardless of belief in magic or not, they KNOW you did something to them - flashing lights, hypnosis, pheromones, whatever. Then they become hostile. If they are violent, they will try to beat the shit out of you. That's a bad idea.
You KNOW social media, search engines, cell phones and laptops do something to you - they steal your data as routinely as you draw breath.
That can make you angry. But do you really act on it? In any way, shape or form, what so ever? Now, I don't know you, but my guess is no. And this would be the same. You KNOW, but all that impotent anger isn't going to go anywhere or do anything, because you can't prove anything, the caster is protected by the law, and you'll look insane, and worse yet silly, if you make a scene because someone used magic on you.
Yes, I do act on it. I only download apps I specifically need and don’t go anywhere near the rest. I don’t use social media, don’t discord, and have all the anti-tracking countermeasures I can enabled on my devices. I turned off location data on everything I could, and put it on “only while using” (or whatever it’s called) on everything else (like my gps, etc.), I told Siri not to interact with anything I possibly could, I boycott certain companies due to ethical disagreements, and if certain bajillionaires were right in front of me I would absolutely kick ‘em in the dangly bits, hard, just on general principle, and eat the simple assault charges. You absolutely would not want to cast friends on me, I wouldn’t react well 60 seconds later. Besides, why would you even want to?
Absolute nope. It directly influences their mind against their will, lets them know you did *something* to screw with their head and then forces them to be hostile to you.
There is nothing in the entire scope of English language or any scenario in feasible existence that would ever convince me this cantrip should ever be used in real life. And anyone trying to is giving pure ick-vibes.
You're one step away from rohypnol. Nah. Hell Nah. Dafuq is wrong with you?

The stickler for me is that after the minute, they become hostile to you. Every interaction ends with somebody hating you.
'Hates' is your interpretation. They *know*, but in the real world, they'd have no framework what so ever to explain it. They might be upset, angry - but hate is strong for something you cannot explain.
Anyways, baffling as it might seem, I'm not universally liked. I'm 52. I have *always* been ok with that.

That's not really the question, is it?
Let me just recap, real quick: The question is which cantrip has the greatest use IRL. Basically, none of them do anything useful - except Friends. Now, Friends is morally suspect, but it's certainly useful. Does it have a setback? Yup, it does. Does that negate it's usefulness? Nopes, it don't.
Blanket disclaimer: I only ever state opinion. But I can sound terribly dogmatic - so if you feel I'm trying to tell you what to think, I'm really not, I swear. I'm telling you what I think, that's all.

And if someone cast friends on me they better be outside of my ability to find them within 60 seconds, because I most likely would go after them. I mean that. (I’m in therapy for anger regulation. So adding magical manipulation to my already short fuse would be a recipe for imminent confrontation.) So how useful is friends really gonna be when one’s teeth are on the floor? And I’m just one person. And I don’t like guns. Try it on many people I know it’d get a person shot. How useful is friends when one has a sucking chest wound? Not so much.
this is very easy to solve do it were cops are at so they will stop any violence before they get to far you could even do it are people with alot of power just to get that 100% hostile effect and make bank off them! imagine you see bill gates and use it on him just asking harmless questions while videoing bc its freaking bill gates then after the timer he attacks and boom a huge pay day!

The spell makes the target hostile to you. It doesn't turn them mindlessly violent. Someone like Bill Gates would be more likely to pay some people to ruin your life by hacking your computer, committing a ton of identity theft to clean out your bank account, posting malicious stories about you on social media...

could you also just keep casting it? would that anger stack and just keep making someone mad? someone getting too mad could also make health problems happen or just make them go black out mad and go after you no matter who they are (the cantrip didnt say you couldnt just keep recasting it on them tho im still new to dnd

You could theoretically keep casting it, but "hostile" is just a descriptor that states a creature's attitude toward you. It has no physiological effect on the target, it just means that they regard you as an enemy and will behave accordingly. What that behavior is depends on the target, they'll act according to their nature.

true but if someone kept forcing you to be nice to them over and over again it could be hell tho what if you could keep casting it before it even ran out then you could get whatever you wanted then leave "quickly "

The spell only gives you Advantage on charisma checks against the person. That's really not actually that powerful, since it has no effect on the DC of those checks. It's not Charm Person. And once the target is hostile, you can bet that the DC you'll need to beat is pretty high, if not outright impossible. And you'll probably also have Disadvantage against them.

No, the spell says you can only use it on someone not hostile to you. If you use it once on them, they are hostile and thus immune.

No, because you can only cast friends on non-hostile creatures.
Vicious Mockery allows you to kill someone with insults. There is no evidence against you. A witness saying "He magically killed him by killing him fat" proves nothing. Think of how great a criminal you could be. They of how easy you can win a fight.

Guidance is also good. A touch range spell can be used on yourself, therefor Guidance makes you good at everything.
