we had a little discussion in our group. The Dm is not sure about the primordial companion and the Beastermaster Features like Exceptional Training or beastial fury. Both features uses the phrase "beast companion" but the optional primordial companion rules replaces the beast companion with a primal beast. So as rule as written none of the Beastmaster features works with the primordial beast. I think that is not intendend. Is there an Errata or an FaQ?
Why wouldn't the Primal Companion count as your beast companion? It's a beast, and it's your companion. If they had intended all the other beastmaster features to also be replaced, they would have replaced them too, instead of only replacing Ranger's Companion.
If your DM insists that the BM features no longer work with it, they might not be properly understanding 5e's natural language design, and it might not be the best table for you to play at.
The first half of the Exceptional Training feature is now just baked right into the primal beast’s basic rules, and the second half about the attacks counting as magical simply refers to “the beast” (not the “beast companion”), so I believe it would still apply to the “primordial beast.”
Not sure about how it works with Bestial Fury though.
