I hope we get an answer to the question about non-US purchases soon (ie Is there going to be a better way to buy them than spending £180 to get what in the US is $180 with bonus stuff).
Also, does anyone know what time the early release for Master Tiers will drop here on 3 Sep? I’d booked 17 Sep off work to read the PHB. I’f change that to the 3rd, but if it only releases in the evening UK time I’ll make that the 4th instead!
There are elements of 5e folks have been complaining about for the past decade. Fewer character choices. Martial classes having linear in-combat choices and very few out of combat options. Some classes being completely unbalanced.
Now that Wizards is trying to address those concerns, people are complaining about the game. Especially content creators - which, of course they are. If you have followed the news for the past year or so, there have been several high profile whistleblowers revealing the tech industries’ algorithms promote negative content more than positive as outrage engines are more addicting and sells better than honesty does. And that is not even getting to the darker reason some of those content creators are trying to galvanize the public against the first iteration of D&D to actively tackle the racism Gary Gygax intentionally injected into the game.
I've loved D&D since I was a child. My heart suffers when I see people complaining. If they do so with common sense, it’s not a problem at all, but harassment or pure hate is not good for the community and those who love the game, its worlds, and related books and games like I do.
We should always remember that the rules in the books are the default ones, but we always have the option to modify some things if we wish.
That said, all the new content is very interesting and brings more good things than bad.
My only disappointment for now (but not a big one! 😅❤️) is not having the Artificer in the new basic core rule books. I guess it's because it's a relatively recent addition and you can take it from Tasha's.
I must admit, this is not the type of discussion I expected to see when I got home. I was expecting people to be talking about the content of the video :/
Potions as a bonus action is ok, not something that was a problem in the circles I play in but not an unwelcome change.
I am a little surprised about the Backgrounds, but I will need to see an example and see if a Custom option is included. Right now it seems kinda mid.
The Psionic subclasses not only being added but updated is very exciting to me.
I look forward to seen the end result of the 3 new subclasses. I do have to admit that there is something off putting about the art for the Circle of the Sea. I don't have any idea what it is that bothers me about it, but its cursed.
I really like the idea of Heroic Inspiration.
I want to know more about the crafting rules. I know a couple players that are constantly wanting to make stuff so better rules will help me a lot.
ALL of the DMG is exciting to me. If it weren't for what I learned from my dad, I would never have been able to DM. The current DMG just isn't useful.
I guess those are the things that I am most interested in. Other than Warlock. I NEED to know what happened to Warlock.
Can we bring the thread back around to the videos etc? I haven't had chance to watch the videos yet, and the above post is a lot more useful and.productive.

I'm kinda new to DnD and i just bought the player handbook in the 50th anniversary sale. Now i see a new version is coming out (i'm new so i'm not that up to date on stuff like this).
Would i get the new version of the player handbook when it's releasing? does anyone know? because i can't seem to find it anywhere.
if not, i kinda feel a little scammed to be honest.

The 2024 Player's Handbook is a new book and so is a separate purchase
I doubt there'd be any kind of 'trade up', did you get the physical book or a DDB Digital? It'd be neat if they offered a running discount for owners of one digital edition to get the other (doubtful, but nice) That book you have is good for forecver, though, I doubt my players are going to want to change up their PCs when the books come out.

thank you for the clear answer.
I just would have appreciated to know before i bought the player handbook 2 weeks ago. makes me a little bummed.
hopefully dndbeyond might consider things like this in the future.
Are the alt covers sleeves that are included with every book, or do you have to buy them separately?
They're unique alternative covers only available from game stores, probably only on preorder.

Sorry, as others have said, this is a new book. That’s why the 2014 books are often significantly discounted.
But it’s up to you whether you make the switch, as the 2014 book has served many people well for the past ten years. You can use it to create a character that should still work in a game being played with 2024 rules, and I’m sure many tables will be in no rush to throw out the old ruleset, so you should still get use from the book you’ve bought.
the advertisement says that there is a savings of $60. The three digital books show a $10 each discount. No discount for the $50 hard cover books.
according to my math skills, this means $30 in savings is unaccounted for. So where does that other $30 in savings come from? Is it the digital art book? The “free” shipping?
On a side note, would have been cool,to get an updated DM screen in the package, like the one that came with my physical collectors edition set.

Digital books in the bundle are discounted from $30 to $10, so this is $20 discount per book, 3 books, which is $60.

But, hey, using incomplete information and relying more on YouTube than facts is kind of the modus operandi of the D&D community.
The reality? Right now, the books are not out. Personally, I am optimistic enough to preorder - I like that they have said they are trying fix some specific problems I have always had with 5e (not to mention fixing organizational problems that have existed in every edition of D&D), and the playtest content has been trending in a way I find positive. I also am quite pleased that the systems will have compatibility - having lived through edition changes, I would much rather see a revised rule set than a true edition change.
And, of course, if you are less optimistic, you do not have to preorder - you can wait until you have a chance to review the rules in their final form before deciding to purchase. But, for the love of Pelor, make that decision based on your own observations and actual data, not based on anything said by some content creator with a financial interest (and far too often racist interest) in pushing negativity.
I’m trying to see the complaints as a good thing. An old fashioned edition war. There really wasn’t one at the end of 4e, because most people were happy to see the end of 4e. So people being upset (at least the ones who are genuinely upset and not doing it for the likes and subscribes) means they’re really invested in the game and want D&D to stay.
There have been many times over the years when it looked like the game was about to go away either because of fiscal mismanagement or lack of interest. So people upset about it changing at least means it’s healthy.
Hopefully this is a stupid question:If I preorder the Digital 2024 Edition of the Player’s Handbook, what happens to my existing dndbeyond character sheets, when I receive it?Will my existing character sheets automatically switch over to the rules of the new edition?(If so, that might be a problem for existing campaigns being run in 2014 5E.)
Will dndbeyond have out back on this (maybe add a toggle or something to the builder), so that we can have control over when each our character sheets make the transition, so we don’t introduce the problem of not everyone at the table using the same set of rules into our games?

I don't think they've said officially, but there's no reason to think anything will happen to your extant characters. It would actually be hard to do, for starters. Plenty of the subclasses don't even exist in revised.
I would expect that, if you want to convert a character, you'll have to rebuild it from the ground up. .
This is great news! How about a physical + digital bundle for the EU Store?
I wanted to get full clarification on this before I gave an answer, because there was a LOT of confusion about it.
So, UK/EU customers have physical/digital bundle options available in their stores for the three books individually. There's already a $20 (or monetary equivalent in your country) discount applied to that price. If you add all three to your cart, you get the same $60 (or equivalent) discount that someone purchasing from the DDB marketplace would get. It's all the same, and the only other discount available is what you'd get if you're a bundle owner. You also DO get any preorder perks with this purchase.
Does that make sense?
Actually, no. I'm ordering from the EU store. You said that you get the digital bonuses if you add all three to the cart and order. OK this far. But when you do that, the system says that the estimated shipping date is "13. February 2025", which seems to mean that you won't get the physical books until all three are available. They confirm that in the FAQ: "If you place multiple orders with different release dates, then your order will deliver when the last item is available."
I suppose that you will get the first two physical books sooner, if you split the order in tree orders, one for each physical+digital bundle. But then you have three different orders. Do you get the digital bonuses, if you make three separate orders (one for each new rulebook) instead of one order, which contains all three physical+digital bundles?

Hello.
Does anyone know if the new books will have other languages support in their physical version? Like French?
Thx.

Sure!
That video is good for clarifying how feats and backgrounds are used in the new rules

I was so caught up in the Backgrounds that I forgot about those lol. All of those changes are dope!
It sucks that I won't get to watch the Fighter video till after work though.
