This is great news! How about a physical + digital bundle for the EU Store?
I wanted to get full clarification on this before I gave an answer, because there was a LOT of confusion about it.
So, UK/EU customers have physical/digital bundle options available in their stores for the three books individually. There's already a $20 (or monetary equivalent in your country) discount applied to that price. If you add all three to your cart, you get the same $60 (or equivalent) discount that someone purchasing from the DDB marketplace would get. It's all the same, and the only other discount available is what you'd get if you're a bundle owner. You also DO get any preorder perks with this purchase.
Does that make sense?
Yes, it makes sense and thanks for providing this information. I think the info should also appear on the EU (and UK) store, because it is not at all obvious there that buying all three of the books (I'm assuming they have to be purchased at the same time) grants the bundle preorder perks.

I have a question regarding the new species rules. If I already own old books with different races that are not in the new PHB (assuming they are not, for example a tortle) would I be able to use those races with the new PHB class and species rules? And if so, how would those races be affected?

Yeah. There'll probably be guidelines in the book, but they're probably going to be "you don't get two sets of stat bumps"
To call these new books is just marketing. Potions as a bonus action? Wow, you are doing what most people have been doing for 10 years. The core of these books is still what we own but yet there is no upgrade path for those current owners. If you are going to treat this as digital content, do so. Right now, you are treating it as physical content. This isn't a new book and we all know it. It's Errata with some changes to things to keep it fresh. I'm still trying to understand why I would buy the DMG or Monster Manual. Would I pay $30 for 75 new monsters? I could pay less for more right now with current content. I don't need 8 variations of skeletons. What is actually NEW in the DMG. I've been DMing for almost 10 years, I don't need DM tips and tricks and adventures. We need official lists of changes. Did the rules actually change? If you are not going to actually give loyal customers a path to upgrade from the current digital platform at a lower cost, you need to me more transparent. I'd imagine current players can get by with just the PHB for the new class changes and google the DM Guide changes that most likely won't effect our game.

As a loyal customer of D&D for 40 plus years, I don't mind paying for new books and new editions. It keeps the game fresh and fun.
from what they have revealed so far and playtests this is going to be a substantial update to the rules. in both the players and the DMG. Lots of reworking to rebalance things that have been released in later books as well as lots of new things. The MM is a rebuild of all the monsters that we see with the new versions of the stat blocks that we have seen in later editions to make things easier on the DM. Whether you want to admit it or not it is a new book and not just a marketing ploy.
Also just because you don't need it, doesn't mean it shouldn't be made. If you don't think its worth it, then don't buy it. But to come out and demand that you should be given discounts on things because you don't feel it is worth it is plain ridicules.
This may be a stupid question, but how will this affect people using D&D Beyond to play with their character sheets online? Will there be a big change to the sheets functions if you don't want to buy the new books?

Basic answer is we don't really know, but I would guess based on how you can currently have legacy content, characters made with 2014 rules will still function fine.

shouldnt be any change functinality wise when it comes to character sheets, all that stuff is staying the same. as for character creation it wil probably be the same as how they have it set with Tashas background stuff, its jsut an option to turn on or off, my guess its gonna default to 2024 for new characters and you have to tell it that you want to use legacy rules
Which is what I said. IF there are SO many changes, show what they are in the DMG. I don't think there are as many as you think. I have no problem spending and buying new books, but changing the stat blocks of monsters has ZERO impact to what I do today. It's like paying for the full price of a car and all they did was repaint it. That's marketing.

While we obviously won't know for sure until February, official word is that they've revamped most monsters to more accurately reflect their CR. This likely means upping damage, increasing # of attacks, giving something like MCDM's villain actions, etc. Crawford & Kenrick have talked about making the monsters more deadly to scale with the changes to player characters.
So it should be more than just a new paint job. But we'll see.

Plus there'd be a major wave of discontentment if people's purchases stopped working. The big selling point of digital books is usage with the tools in DDB. So taking away everyone's purchases' major draw would be significant. And with the discontent there was around the removal of piecemeal purchases, I'd hardly doubt there'd be anyone foolish enough to take away the functionality of pre-existing purchases.
Odds are, IMHO, the PHB/DMG/MM will be legacy'd an unpurchaseable for newcomers. But I'd expect them to keep current functionality functional. Though it will be interesting to see if newcomers still get the current SRD. (So could play a Fiendlock with current rules rather than 5.5 rules, even if not able to purchase the current Feylock or GOOlock.)
I'm kinda new to DnD and i just bought the player handbook in the 50th anniversary sale. Now i see a new version is coming out (i'm new so i'm not that up to date on stuff like this).
Would i get the new version of the player handbook when it's releasing? does anyone know? because i can't seem to find it anywhere.
if not, i kinda feel a little scammed to be honest.
The 2024 Player's Handbook is a new book and so is a separate purchase
thank you for the clear answer.
I just would have appreciated to know before i bought the player handbook 2 weeks ago. makes me a little bummed.
hopefully dndbeyond might consider things like this in the future.
In my opinion the current rules have some really fun things. And they're a lot cheaper than the upcoming 5.5 sources. If your table lets you use them even after the 5.5 books come out you still have a good purchase IMO. Lots of wizard and cleric options. Solid warlock. Barb/Ranger/Monk are a bit, *light*, but each still has a decent subclass. (Hunter Ranger gets too much hate IMO.)
I have a fairly simple question mainly for Beyond Staff.
Will the 2014 get the Legacy tag as Mord’s did? This would be my preference maybe in the builder have an option for conflicting rules to have a slider to use Legacy or current.
Reason I ask is I have one group that will probably adopt 2024 immediately while the other larger group will most likely stay 2014 for awhile.
i dont think calling it legacy would make sense when most of the subclasses arent even out yet and wont be out for awhile if they do come back out now calling it something like 2014 version and 2024 version would make sense since this is suppose to be super backwards compatible
Odds are, IMHO, the PHB/DMG/MM will be legacy'd an unpurchaseable for newcomers. But I'd expect them to keep current functionality functional.
This is my assumption as well; as the new versions of the core books come out, the 2014 versions will be inaccessible for newcomers but still there and usable for folks that have already purchased them.
At some point, though, they're going to sunset them. We should fully expect that, though likely not for at least a year or more after the release of the 2024/5 books.

Any legacy content should be available to those that bought it as long as there is a dndbeyond!
I'm not saying that's what they should do. I'm saying, given everything I understand how for-profit corporations work, it's what they could and likely will do.
Imagine it's 2031, and WOTC is now planning for the next iteration of D&D to come out in 2034. I can't see them wanting to keep a 20 year old version of the game available on their site as that might hurt sales for the current and new versions. Ultimately, WOTC exists to make a profit, and at some point, keeping the 2014 version of the game alive* won't make sense from a profitably POV.
*Of course, like all previous versions, it will still exist. I'm talking about them maintaining an active online portal for the 2014 version of the game.

I mean... if they do decide to keep supporting/onboarding 2014 content to/with their tools, great. But you did both agree that they could unilaterally modify or discontinue any part of the service as well by using it (purchasing books, posting here etc) too.
