I like to create a warlock with Great Old One Patron - which requires me to purchase the current phb.
Do you know if preordering the digital 2024 phb will give me access to the full range of backgrounds and subclasses right now? Or do I have to buy the 2014 version?

Preorder: to order (something) in advance : to request to purchase (something) before it is available for sale.
Preordering will not get you access to the 2024 PHB. You will have to wait until the book is released. I don’t know if by preordering if it is earlier than the scheduled release since I’m not preordering.
sorry for the misunderstanding. I do not actually need the book, I only want to have backgrounds and subclasses unlocked for my character creation in DNDB. I was wondering if prepurchasing the phb 2024 might unlock this for my account. So this means, I have to buy the current phb, because the a la carte ordering of subclasses has been deactivated, right?

Purchasing the 2024 book will not give you access to any content from the 2014 book. They are different books. If you are a subscriber AND purchase the 2024 book, you will get either 2 or 4 weeks early access (I can't remember which) to the new book.
If you are considering waiting on that purchase, you are doing a bit of gambling. Historically, once a book is considered no longer relevant to the current rule set, it is given the Legacy tag and made unavailable for new purchase. Current owners will continue to enjoy 2014 support in some way, but it is possible that it will not be available for purchase upon the release of the 2024 books.

Yes, if you want to use anything from the current PHB you have to purchase it separately. Ordering the 2024 PHB only gets you access to that product when it is available in Sept.
Master Tier Subscribers get the PHB 2 weeks early.

None of that has been confirmed, but I totally understand that's the current speculation. I really wish someone of staff could confirm the availability of the 2014 books past the release date of the 2024 books.
We also have to consider the 2024 books aren't going to be released at the same time with the new DMG coming in November and the new MM coming Fed 2025. I can't image they would legacy tag the 2014 books until at least the new MM comes out.

I did say that I was only speaking about a possibility and that waiting until after 2024 release to buy 2014 content is a bit of a gamble that it will still be there at that time. I cover a bit of range in the bolded text, all of that is based on what has been gleaned from the devs, staff, and observed history here which lent to my formed opinion on what will happen. Legacy tags are historically used for content that is no longer aligned with the direction WotC is taking the game and that content is pulled from future purchases. The devs have insisted that you will be able to play 2014 and 2024 PCs at the same table if you would like, and LaTia has even said that she is working on getting an understanding on how these books will integrate with each other. 'How', not 'if'. She goes on to say that her current understanding is that it will be something akin to the Legacy tag, though she said she believes it is not a 1:1 thing.
You are right - none of this is confirmed and I definitely don't have any insider knowledge, so take whatever you see here with a grain of salt, but I don't see why they would change the business model when they will want to drive sales to the 2024 rules, not the 2014. It is mostly for that reason that I believe the old rules will not be available once the new ones are released. I believe that as each book becomes available, the old will be pulled. PHB 2014 yanked on the day that PHB 2024 goes live, DMG 2014 when DMG 2024 goes live, and so on. But it is just as likely that they will have both accessible until the final core book is released. What I believe is far less likely though, is that the 2014 rules will remain available more than a month or so after all the new books are released. It is speculation, but one I would be willing to put one DDB digital book gift to you on. :P

For clarification:
