I am glad they reverted it back, very much did not like the new one. Burying everything into more menus makes everything harder to find and takes more mouse clicks to get there. Yes, it looked cleaner, but when running a game, getting to the information faster is more important.

Playing D&D since 1982
Have played every version of the game since Basic (original Red Box Set), except that abomination sometimes called 4e.
When I noticed it, I saw that the Encounter Builder said ALPHA. I was very excited, and thought that WOTC had finally put some love into the Enounter Builder. I was disappointed when clicked and saw that it looked exactly the same. Then the next day, I saw that things had gone back to what they were.
Does anyone know if WOTC have finally decided to update the Encounter Builder, or if they are just planning to rename the current product as "Alpha" because they have no intention of putting any more work into it. This is a sore spot for me (and many others that I have seen post in the past), as I have no need or desire to use Maps.

They made some comment on one of their announcement pages some time back that the Encounter Builder is not planned for further development and that Maps is the focus for 2024 rules. I posted the link in this thread, but Caerwyn summarized the findings of that link in the OP.
Yeah I saw that thread when it was posted. The brief appearance of the word "Alpha" before Encounter Builder gave me renewed hope that they had changed their mind. I understand that they're doing everything they can to push people toward using their own Maps rather than competitng VTTs. All part of the ongoing monetization efforts.
But I agree wholeheartedly with Caerwyn's original post. I am not going to be forced to use Maps to build encounters for my in-person games, nor do I have any plans to switch VTTs for my virtual sessions.
I've had a Master-Tier subscription and purchased the Legendary Bundle way back in 2018. I used to be so excited about D&D Beyond. I couldn't wait to read the new blog articles that so often featured great one-shots, short adventures, tactical guides for running monsters, and so much more. But over time, that value-added content has shifted into what feels like little more than advertisements for the next product to buy. Promotion is fine in moderation, but it's just a completely different vibe now.
Ever since WotC acquired this site and the news of Hasbro's focus on "monetization" became public, my goodwill has been steadily eroding. The decision to abandon the Encounter Builder, and to refuse even a basic update for the 2024 rules, has pretty much drained away what little was left. It's just sad.

Hey Heroes,
Am I hallucinating, or did D&D Beyond have a navigation bar menu at the very top of the page for a short period yesterday?
I swear that for about 24 hours, the main site navigation was a different kind of drop-down, and today it's back to the way it was before.
Am I crazy, or did anyone else notice a temporary UI change? Let me know! 😅

Yes, it did change, and they did revert it
Find my D&D Beyond articles here
Appreciate the confirmation! I wonder why they reverted back

Apparently some users were encountering bugs, so they likely reverted it while they fixed the issues

That makes sense. It's encouraging to see the site getting active work. Really hoping it becomes what it deserves to be!
Also, I gotta ask how you got that title!
