Selling physical copies above Amazon prices of depreciated rules expansion gift bundles... is a choice. At this point you could have just skipped the sale altogether.

Well, great lesson for next year's Black Friday. Guess I don't have to save up for that one.
I was hoping for a Corebook 2024 Digital bundle discount or maybe a digital Adventure combo Eve of ruin, Pandelver bundle discount. That would be interesting.
Maybe next time put up a poll so customers can vote for what they would be interested in for BF discount.
I saw that! You can even filter to see 3 digital items in the "sale" but they're all just regular price. Actually wanted to spend this year but wow, was not expecting this.
Ya, you would think the digital stuff could have massive discounts, since it didn't really cost them anything. Or next to nothing. I've been waiting months for this day and I was planning to spend a few hundred dollars on various things. But now, I'll probably spend zero dollars 💸
I agree this year's BF sale was abysmal. Last year, there were more and bigger discounts on digital content for Cyber Monday than on BF, so there could be better deals on the way. If not, WotCbro may have decided they are doing just fine and don't need a sales boost this year.
The strange part of it is, they've had a few semi-decent sales throughout the year (at least on older stuff), including last month on Halloween. Why they decided to run a better sale on Halloween than BF, I'll never know.
Well, there are a few digital items on sale for Cyber Monday. 10 books, 2 sets of dice, and those overpriced maps. Not a great sale, but it's something. It only really counts if you happen to need or want one of the chosen few titles. Nothing on the new core books or recent releases, though that's expected. There are a couple of third-party items included.
If you are looking for deals, I suggest watching periodically throughout the year. They usually run a sale about every other month and some of those sales are way better than what they do for BF/CM.
Imo, anyone who’s shocked that the bread and butter items didn’t go on sale hasn’t been paying attention to Black Friday sales in general the past few years. We’re not in the era of “one day only crazy prices in the whole store” sales for it anymore; you’re lucky if you can find a $50 discount on current gen consoles these days. The big discounts are on things like cars, furniture, and home appliances where they can try to upsell you a tier, not the areas where people are looking for specific items. Add to that the exclusivity of the Beyond content, and there’s not much impetus for a big ticket marketplace-wide sale.
This is pretty bad. I want to get digital versions of the hard cover books I have purchased. If I purchase my books from DND Beyond I can get the digital version for $10 if I purchase from my local game shop (which I do) the digital copy costs me $30. So I look for sales to make up the difference.
They had two of my books available digitally (On Cyber Monday) for $20.99 a piece that I purchased begrudgingly spending $42
Had they made all the digital books available for $15, I would have spent $150. So they left $110 on the table and I am not a fan of how they do business. How is this a win for them?

Because their projections indicate that they won’t get sufficient additional purchases from the sales to offset the loss from price cuts. I hate to break it to you, but in the scope of the figures they are working from, your $110 isn’t even a rounding error on any of the metrics being looked at.

Counterpoint: $180* for the 3 core books in physical and digital form PLUS a monthly sub just to host a D&D game is stirge guano crazy.
*WotC keeps 100% of the revenue from digital and 100% of the physical books they mail from their warehouse vs. some percentage of Local Game Store sales.
A lot of people are using DNDBeyond for Characters but holding off the VTT because of the massive initial cash outlay required. $200 is a lot to ask to play D&D. And adding friction to the process is that it is still impossible to gift digital books and subscriptions on DNDBeyond in 2025. So I'm having to buy a Visa gift card and give it to our DM to buy digital licenses so he can host our game.
Hey can you check the FAX machine? I think I just an important message just came in.

You can absolutely purchase items as a gift, there is a check box on the checkout screen.
Which has nothing to do with the subject of Black Friday sales. The point raised was that WotC “missed out” on $110 of sales because they didn’t do huge markdowns. The counterpoint being that the loss is only relevant if they don’t have reason to believe a sizable portion of the segment who wants those books is willing to pay retail, particularly when the products are fairly close to exclusive for this site.
The larger economic “ethics” of this site as a whole- insofar as there can be any for disposable income products- is something you should probably start another thread for.

You're right. It does seem you can gift books. We were trying to gift a subscription which seems to be impossible. People are literally switching to Roll20 because it allows you to gift subscriptions.

I have a wishlist of at least 10 digital products that I would like to buy. And none of them are on the discount list. I am very disappointed. 🥲
There's always next year. Or when 6e is out. Maybe then they will throw the complementary rules to 2024 at us at a never seen before deep 5% discount.

Their sales are so good that they don't need discounts pfff :'D

No core books. 2 DIGITAL dice sets (you're paying for pixels).
117 1st party and 3 3rd party adventure books 20-30% off. I wish I were joking.Your math doesn't add up.
7 1st-party content
3 3rd-party content
2 dice sets
12 total
How does this equal 11 mostly 3rd party sets?
