Will there ever be an option to create 3.5 ed characters and have it similar to how the 5th edition's character sheet and lookup is?
I love D&D Beyond, and it's incredible. I play both 5th and 3.5 editions, and would love to have something like this for 3.5. I have a lot of friends who would love it as well, and I know there'd be a ton of money pouring in to get the books once it was released. No more carrying all the books to games! Easier to create characters, find spells and feats...
I run a 3.5 campaign and this would be amazing, and I'd be willing to buy the books digitally in order to use it here; my entire gaming group would too, so I know there are others who would.
I doubt it will happen, although I understand your interest. DDB is a great service! But there is still a lot to be done to encompass all the 5e rules; Given how long It's likely to take to get all that done, I can't see trying to add 3.5 support, too. It would slow down the development of 5e features here, and that development is already slower than many of us (including the development team) would like.
There's no way 3.5e support would be feasible. It's a massively more complicated rule set than 5e and it's no longer officially supported by WotC. Wouldn't make sense to take on such a massive time and money investment for something that's much less popular than 5e at the moment and would ultimately draw attention away from 5e.
It would be nice if these old systems could be added, but I sincerely doubt DDB would have a commercial motivation to do 3.5 or any other system. There would have to be a LOT of people willing to shell out money for DDB to redirect their limited resources to that. In any case, most people interested in the system would already own most of the books they're interested in, and given the backlash to people having to pay "twice" for 5e content, I just don't see there being much demand.
More to the point, WOTC's most successful years are now, with 5e. I doubt they'd be interested in licensing anything from the past, so that income stream probably wouldn't even be open to DDB. Not to mention the confusion it could cause for new users - there are a lot of new players still coming into 5e.
I'm sure there's a thriving 3.5 community, but that edition ended over 10 years ago and I'm pretty sure the only new tools you'll see for it (if any) will be passion projects.
