One interesting idea would be to leave just the PHB at a low price (maybe $10-15?) since that is often enough for many people. The rest is all supplements that aren't necessary for characters. This would satisfy most price concerns.

That would be a nice bone to throw to people, and likely enough to satisfy a lot complaints. Not all by a long shot, but some of them. Even keeping the launch price of $19.99 on the PHB only would be smart, I think. That's certainly the lowest price anywhere I've seen, for print or digital.

Since I already own the Core Rule books, does this unlock me stuff on the website / app if I enter the serial number of the book?
No, that is not an option.
Also, the books don't have unique serial numbers, so there is no way to prove you did buy them previously.
