I would love for it to be possible that as a homebrew creator. On DDB if we could put whole homebrew classes into the character builder as well and not just subclasses. I don't know if that is possible, but the idea itself is an interesting one to ponder on.
This is planned, but as full classes have a lot more potential to break something, they are holding back on it until they have made the tools easier to use and harder to break (fool proof if you will).
How do you use a homebrew subclass in the character creator? Am I missing something obvious?
On that first page of the character creator, there should be a toggle switch for Homebrew Content, and it defaults to off. Did you remember to flick it to the on position?
Seriously, that site is infamous for having the biggest collection of some of the worst attempts at homebrew on the internet. Plus it labels a lot of homebrew as 'variant' or 'optional' rules as if they're official
I did, but nothing is showing up in the creator selections.
Only things in your collection (or your DM’s) will show up. If you have not created anything or added anything to your collection there will be nothing there to see.
According to the info on their site, they'll never make it possible because they have to adhere to the official D&D WOTC stuff and the things they approve. While there are tools for creating subclasses in the official D&D rules and content, there seem to be none for creating whole new classes, such as the Pugilist by Benjamin Huffman.

I agree with your point. I'm very interested in testing some homebrew classes just for the fun of it.

Not subclasses like they already have, im talking about full classes.
If you're looking for some homebrew classes, maybe D&D Wiki would do the trick.

First you need to browse the homebrew section on the site here: https://www.dndbeyond.com/homebrew/subclasses
Then, when you find ones you like, click "Add to my collection"
After that, you'll be able to use any subclass you've added to your collection.
To add homebrew to your collection you may need the Hero tier sub.
Or you need the sub to publish homebrew - I can never remember which way around it is. O.o
