I wanted to get your feedback on D&D etiquette multiple PUG campaigns. There are many website that have a LFG portal; VTT sites, Reddit, here on DDB, etc...
Do you think it is bad etiquette/form to join multiple campaigns, try them out then drop the others once you pick one? If so how do you communicate this to your DM or is this normal behavior, except that it an unspoken rule so no one would actually tell the DM this they would just say thanks but no thanks? How long do you wait to drop? OR is this a horrible idea and you should never do this.
Thanks for your feedback i am curious to see what others do in this situation.
Fatts is right in that finding a group is a lot like dating, or looking for a job. Generally you put out a lot of apps and look for a good fit. I tend to be up front about my intentions when joining a game, and try to explain my app process. Most DMs have tried to be players as well, so they know what methods people use to ensure they get the most chances at finding one. That said, every DM has also had their fair share of people who ghost them. It feels rude, but it happens for one reason or another.
I would at the very least tell the DMs who are running the games that you are leaving. It’s only polite. You could do the corporate “not a good fit” line or the dating “it’s not you it’s me” line or just try the truth. But at the very least tell them that they done need to continue writing content for your character.
Also, there’s no rule says you cannot stay in multiple campaigns. Just saying. That’s the difference between D&D and dating. Your DM shouldn’t dump you if you say you want to see other game groups.
A good idea is to first run a one shot together and see if it works out. So no campaign falls apart because of you leaving after it started. As a DM I am also looking for people who fit my style and that I feel that I want to game with.
It is always better to be clear about it up front I’d say.

DnD can kind of be like dating. You test the waters till you find 'the one'.
If you go out with one person do you tell them you have another date later?
Lol love your analogy, thanks
