So I purchased the Theros book on DnDB. I was making a character and the only Theros content I see is the two races. Where are the devine gifts or Theros backgrounds and sub classes?

As a tip for the future if you have content you believe is missing from official content please check the Bugs and Support forum. In most cases new official material will feature a thread pinned to the top and in the first post a moderator will provide all information they have about current known issues. This will always be a great place to check first as in most cases it will have the answer.
Also note, D&D Beyond is a tool made by a separate company from Wizards of the Coast (who make D&D). Wizards of the Coast may create content that D&D Beyond might not have the means to implement yet and do not give them enough advance notice to code in. This means that new features/mechanics might not be immediately supported by the toolset. This is just something you should keep in mind. Hope this helps.

then there needs to be a disclaimer before you make a purchase that you may be wasting your money. I bought this book on this website for the express purpose of using the content with DnDB tools. If that couldn't happen, I needed to know that before I spent the money

Well, you aren’t wasting your money. Because one, you still get the races, the background, and subclasses (I don’t know why you can’t find those if you can find the races). The supernatural gifts are being worked on. The thread literally said that the team has made headway on a general features system, but it’s not ready yet.
I shouldn't have to search to find out something I'm buying is not fully functional. That should be clear at the point of sale. Not doing so is predatory selling practice.

So it the Compendium not working? Because that is what you bought. All the ability to add things to a character sheet on DnD Beyond is extra. You bought the book, not the character builder part. That's the big thing you need to remember. DnD beyond does happen to have a online character builder and as they said when Theros came out they are working on getting all the stuff intact for it. But they don't decide release dates of books, WOtC does, so things are not always going to be ready when WOtC releases something.
Never let it be said that I am one those dullards who holds on to flawed ideas when presented with reasonable arguments. You all have made some very reasonable points.
