Hi, I'm a new DM and I had an idea but, I'm not sure if it's a good idea. The idea is that if a player wants they can use actual money to buy "divine favors" where if they roll a nat1 or want a hint as to where the BBEG's base is they can call upon the gods to aid them. I was thinking I could charge like 5 cents per favor and I can use that money to buy things to improve the campaign.
I’m gonna be honest with you, it’s a very, very bad idea. If you want to buy sourcebooks or maps or miniatures, just ask the group to chip in. Don’t turn your table into a pay-to-win video game. (Also, how many favors do you expect people to use? At that rate, it’d take you forty to buy one of the cheapest Bones series miniatures, probably three hundred for a simple dry erase grid, etc.)
Yeah, don't do that. Just ask the group to help you get stuff to make the game better. It shouldn't all be on the DM to supply everything. But adding microtransactions to your D&D game is not a lesson we should be taking from video games.
