I know there is rampant speculation and all. But it is because there is a vacuum of information. Who will be replacing these three front facing members of Dndbeyond? Why were they not already in the pipeline and phased in?
It hurts that Adam says his response he saw from the start was at best apathy. I literally signed up for the beta back in early 2017 because 5e needed real digital tools and I hoped this would be that answer. Anyways. People value what they believe DnDBeyond is, so when there are big changes, there will be concern.
That's the polite way of saying people are going to freak out.
Good luck for all those people wherever they go. But if I am being truthful, I am more directly concerned with DnDBeyond's luck and good fortune going forward.

Yeah not gonna lie having bought the bundle in 2017 that statement was a little kick to the ol taters. I've been a bundle owner/subscriber since the earliest of days. I may have a critical voice at times but I've for sure supported the service for a very long time and my interest in discussing it's future is generally because I care what happens to it.
It's important to note that Adams comment about receiving apathy/hostility about D&D Beyond in the early days isn't directed at anyone here and shouldn't be read as such. It was just very much the atmosphere at the time during the initial announcement/early days of DDB.
So to those people here, using DDB and contributing to the community, you're the ones that helped proved the naysayers wrong

Indeed, my impression when he said that was that he was speaking about before the first public beta opened, when he was “pitching” the idea to folks in the industry, bloggers, etc. I took it to mean that conventional wisdom was such a thing wasn’t needed, but then the Public beta and following proved those folks wrong.
Adam Bradford (co-founder and visionary), Todd Kenrek (creative manager and original warlock) Lauren Urban (community manager and master of mods) have announced they're each leaving D&D Beyond to pursue epic new quests in life. Todd has already announced what his next chapter is; he's got the fantastic position of creative manager at Codename Entertainment, working on Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms (a game that already features Todds warlock Avren).
Stay tuned to the dev updates, D&D Beyond twitter, and Adam and Laurens own twitter accounts to find out what exciting things the future holds for these amazing people who've worked so hard making D&D Beyond awesome.

So I don't know anything about Joe Starr but people in the Twitch chat seemed to know him. To me, it sounded like he was saying about 'bringing his team in' to essentially replace the current visible staff, i.e. the live stream team, community management and 'customer facing' portion of DDB.
I will say the chat did alleviate some fear, whatever little fear was there, that DDB was in the brown stuff. I'm feeling good about this!
Am I way off the mark here? I'm certain he talked about 'his team in the background' becoming more visible several times. Maybe he meant the current team (his new team) ?

My take was that he was talking about bringing some of the current team forward, as well as some 'big swings' which might bring in new faces.

My interpretation of "big swings" was that it was meant in the baseball analogy. "Swing for the fences" and the like. Basically that they had some major ideas they wanted to try. He repeats "They are ready to take a swing, they are so ready to take a swing."

Oh, yeah - definitely agree. But the assumption is that we'll see a lot of new faces in whatever those are.

there is nothing nefarious going on, we all just have had opportunities that we're excited to peruse!
That's not terribly surprising, in all honesty. DNDBeyond is one of, if not the #1 Online TTRPG property, and has received a LOT of attention during this pandemic because of how much people have had to focus on something as simple as not being bored. Many new people have entered into the hobby, and even more have come back. All of that attention means that anyone involved with something as front & center as DNDBeyond is going to move your resume to the top of any pile it lands in should you begin to explore your options.
Sometimes people just leave to find something new. It happens.
Apologies but that video was about introducing his replacement and nothing else?
I couldn't sit all the way through it, the only times their video releases had kept my attention is when they actually explained some of the options available (such modifying the character sheet), so I can't help but ask was there anything else revealed in that video?
It was implied we'd see 'faces' but only one one individual was introduced, one who will be taking over for Todd and/or Lauren. Adam also spent some time trying to alleviate fears around his departure. A good effort by all to help reassure the community.

Maybe we will get more than fluff articles now. ;)

Codename offered to buff Avren didn't they?
I just saw a post from the official DDB Twitter saying tune into Twitch at 2PM PT (5PM EST) for a look at what's next.

Joe Starr is really great - and it's genuinely exciting that he's coming on board. If he's guiding the boat I think it's going to be a fun ride.
