Tonight is game night for me, I’m DM. You want “incontrovertible proof?” I won’t be forum posting this evening from about 6:30-10/11. There’s your proof. 😉
Easily explained because even you need to sleep once a week.
But Sposta probably couldn't be that precise about sleeping.
Give us proof, not excuses.

It can be tough to get into a D&D group. Lots of people want to play. Not that many want to DM.
As a DM, I don't want anyone I don't really know and like in my group. It's a lot of work to orchestrate a game, and having even one or two people who don't realize that and don't appreciate it can really take away my motivation.
Unfortunately, great D&D experiences are difficult to come by.

Lies! Blasphemy! I bet you copy/pasted those lines from a so-called "Streamed Game," which is actually just another choreographed hoax.

My campaign’s notes document is about 80,000 words long, which is far more effort than either my note-taking best friend or I would ever put into a hoax.
I'd like to invite the OP and everybody on this thread to a game. There are over a dozen posters so obviously not everybody can get in. I think with the following creation guidelines, many wouldn't want to play anyway =)
Character Creation:
Race: Human, Elf, Dwarf, Halfling, and Furling (same as Gnome but they look like 3 foot tall mice or foxes).
Class: Bard, Cleric, Fighter, Monk, Paladin, Rogue, Sorcerer, and Wizard.
Starting level: 7
NO Feats, Nothing From Tasha's
Stats: Roll 4 take highest 3, If you're not happy with that, use Standard Array
Gear: Use gear choice rather than GP buy - 200 gp and 1 uncommon magic item.
*I'll create thread in PBP when I can. Haven't done that before so requires patience =)

Also, if you are not willing to DM, then you are essentially taking the position that you want the D&D experience, and you want someone else to give it to you. You aren't willing to do the hard work but you expect someone else to do it for you. That's a hard sell.
Back when one of my best friends and I wanted to play D&D, and didn't really have anyone else to play it with, I thought about making a post to Facebook that our other friends could see, inviting them to join us. But I didn't want to DM, and I said to him, "I can't exactly invite people to play D&D and then say to them, 'one of you DM.'" If you are going to invite people to play D&D, then at least to start, you need to offer to be the DM. If you're not willing to do that... well, you have seen the result. You get so little D&D that you start to think of it as a hoax.
The DMing gig doesn't have to be forever. You start the ball rolling, and after a while if your players are having enough fun, one or more of them will be willing to try it. But you have to start somewhere.

WOTC lies. We know that WOTC lies. WOTC knows that we know that WOTC lies. We know that WOTC knows that we know that WOTC lies. And still they lie.
Because of the above (a paraphrase from Orwell) I no longer post to the forums -- PM me if you need help or anything.
right now, its an "I have to see it to believe it" situation. many of us could tell you that, yes, in fact we have played dnd, and are currently involved in games. but of course, we could just be lying to make the hoax more believable. you would have no way to know. its just like not believing people landed on the moon. most people believe it, but "I didn't see it, how do we know? most people think it happened, but they could all be fooled!"...
there are many things where the only thing you have to go off of is other people's word. this may be like that.

hey, I know dnd is real. can I still play? also, more info please. what world? stuff like that.
Note: There is also the option of running One-Shots.
If you can't find a group of people who are up for running a full campaign, whether homebrew or from a campaign book, then you could try rotating one-shot adventures and "arena"-style encounters to test your characters and familiarize yourself with the ruleset. Taking on the DM mantle can be intimidating for first time players, but by making it more bite-sized, you might find players to be more receptive, especially if you frame it as a learning opportunity. Lots of people want to learn how to DM, so treat it like a workshop and build your own DM.
I don't think D&D has ever actually existed or been played. It's just a massive conspiracy to get you to buy associated products like rulebooks and novels and video games even though you are never going to be able to find anyone that wants to play. I mean think about it. Are you playing D&D right now? No, you're looking at a forum about it. I have yet to see a shred of incontrovertible proof that anyone has ever actually played an entire game of D&D.
I don't understand how anyone can think that DnD is fake. You are posting on a DnD forum. That should be proof enough. there are so many people posting on here who all play DnD.
