You all can refer to me as nastone if need be. I'm involved with a class project in which I must learn more about another's culture that is different from my own. Assuming here, if you are apart of the dungeons and dragons community, could anyone give me more insight on what your community is like? Also, points on how the game is played, I will be doing more research on the game, but hearing from players of the game would be more insightful. I'd love to hear from anyone, and all perspectives are welcomed.
Are you being asked to find out about actual other cultures? Because if so, then this community wouldn't count. We're not a culture, just a group of people who like to play a particular game, and talk about it amongst ourselves.
There is no "culture" to this group of posters on this website. The political views are widely divergent, which dictates the views of the posters towards the game itself, and how it should be played, and its significance in the posters' lives. Some views are rational, based on facts. Some are not. Just like the real world.
The current Dnd community is a wide and vast and I doubt highly that it would be able to be identifiable in any meaningful way. Calling Dnd players a culture is the same as say thing that people who watch Tv are a culture.
You'd be much better off looking at the historical context of Dnd in the 70's and the Satanic Panic if you want to see a culture involvement in the game.
I highly recommend to the OP to clarify the assignment with the teacher, before doing a bunch of work that ends up being "not what the teacher wanted."

WOTC lies. We know that WOTC lies. WOTC knows that we know that WOTC lies. We know that WOTC knows that we know that WOTC lies. And still they lie.
Because of the above (a paraphrase from Orwell) I no longer post to the forums -- PM me if you need help or anything.
I think taking the word culture out. Could you mind giving me more insight into the community and what conversations are like in a game like this? I don't mean to offend if I did.
Thank you, I will do some research on Dnd in the 70s, for sure. I guess a better question to ask, if you're willing, is why did you join the community? And why do you like the Dnd community?
