Is there any plans to add a roll function on the sheet for melee and range attacks and then a roll for damage like if I use chromatic orb press something that says range attack then if DM says I hit I can press damage???
Definitely planned. We will likely start development on that this year. We're still gathering and reviewing feedback in order to prioritize features, but this one has been consistently near the top.
Out of curiousoty, have you and the team considered having a way for the community to upvote the list of things in development to give all of you a sense of what the community is looking for beyond having to comb through the forums. Something like Trello or occasional surveys?
I can imagine that comes with some downsides as a developer, so I'm wondering if the negative aspects outweigh the potential positives.

We actually ran a survey earlier in the beta that got thousands and thousands of responses that pretty much confirmed what we already had on the roadmap.
The results of said survey:
We will focus on things roughly in that order, as we have been communicating for some time. The only caveat is that something like dice rolling or stream integration is much easier to pull off than, say, combat tracking, so those are likely to get in first due to being lower-hanging fruit.
We will continue to survey and use any other means to gather feedback that's useful going forward.
Yeah, dice rolling makes sense (and the forum already has such functionality integrated), doesn't it?
I mean, I imagine a lot of people here prefer to use physical dice with their games (and the majority of them have impressive collections of such!), and there are a gajillion apps, web pages and whatnot that provide said functionality, but it's easy to do (relatively easy to do well, in any case :p ) and you can't really have a D&D toolset without having some way to roll dice integrated to it, even if few of the user base actually use it.
I imagine that's the reason it ranked so low at the "excitement" survey too. It's a given, why would we get overly excited about it? :p
Now, offline access to my tablet/phone without all those tedious loading times depending on the network? That I am excited about! :D
If your interested in dice you should look into Tale Spire that is currently under development. I'm looking forward to playing D&D with it. I didn't realize D&D Beyond was considering a VTT. That's interesting because I thought it was just going to be an online resource.
A VTT, which DDB clearly is not and not meant to be, is higher on the list of people's priorities than a dice roller...

Actually, I find that to be highly reasonable. With such a great compendium, campaign, and character management system in place, it makes sense (at least to me) that people would want to see a VTT spawn out of it. It's something I'd personally love to see. I even suggested that they should look at buying out the Playsets app in a different thread. While I know that's not exactly realistic, I would be very happy to see what tools they do bring to bear. Honestly, even just a good two dimensional map that can you can access from the app, and would get its own panel on streaming games, would be pretty awesome.
Besides, dice are super cheap, and you can get them everywhere. Maps and minis are expensive as crap, and super time consuming if you want to paint them yourself with any kind of quality. Could you imagine Curse releasing virtual minis/tokens for the monsters, NPCs, races, and characters that you've purchased that you can use on a fully customizable map or integrating them into the pre-built ones from the various adventure guides? That's way better than virtual dice. Way more work, which is why dice gets higher priority, but way more awesome. I'd easily pay an additional $100 to have an integrated custom map maker that's up to the standards that Curse has set for themselves.
What you just described is exactly what Tale Spire is. It has dice, minis with a specific color process to have a painted look, music, ambient sounds, tile sets for locations that snap together, the ability to load a new location, and a fog of war system. It also has Tale Weaver creation tools. You should take a look at the vids they have from their last stream. I hope wotc talks to the devs for d&d specific stuff like d&d beyond. Their vtt already looks amazing.

Cool, thanks for the response. With all the work that's gone into the app and how much it's evolved, I completely forgot about the survey way back in the beginning! I facilitate a few projects at work and I totally understand getting the low hanging fruit where you can do that you can knock a few items off the list.
Thanks for all the work the team has done. Looking at where it is now compared to what it looked like when the beta first opened is pretty incredible. You guys have always taken the time to listen and give thoughtful responses to feedback. I think a lot of people feel like they have contributed to the app's growth thanks to how all of you have responded and incorporated ideas and suggestions into the development process.
Someone correct me if i'm wrong but I believe it was VTT integration, not it's own platform.
I'd be curious to know, because I think it would be almost better to have VTT integration with a D&D Beyond API so we had more choices in VTT to choose from. Some people might like simple 2D maps with simple tokens and others might prefer a 3D VTT with minis like Tale Spire. Some people like to throw real dice, some people like to /roll, and now there is a VTT that uses in game physics to throw virtual dice with automatic roll totals and glowing numbers. More choice is always better and I think it would improve the D&D experience for everyone using the app or digital character sheet and increase the amount of players that will use D&D Beyond.
