Horatio sends a telepathic command to his imp familiar, instructing it to get behind the creatures and retrieve the valuable-looking book, and any information it might contain therein. All while invisible, of course.
Once that is done, Horatio will try to step a little closer forward and, hands empty and outstretched in what hopefully seems like nonagression, gestures at the bodies scattered nearby and around the room. He then points at the Nothics and nocks his head to one side, inquisitively. (Requesting check as needed! Performance? Deception? Persuasion?)
Samael breathes in, and out, and goes to Perigord, "can you translate my message to them (see my long winded post awhile back), and translate their words to me? also communicate my humblest apologies, in that I warned them of the effects, but in common tongue. I ask their forgiveness and seek to start fresh, and no cards hidden from each other."
Samael clears his throat, and as he speaks, he writes on 2 pieces of paper, one in common and one in infernal.
"Greetings, esteemed scholars. I am Samael, emissary of Morn, keeper of the Wizard's tower of the town of Alycron. I am aware of a confrontation at the town's borders that started and ended with blood being shed, and I was sent to resolve the matter peacefully and diplomatically. In order to establish a dialog, I volunteered due to my ability to read every script language on these planes; as I cannot speak these languages, however, I am forced to write in the two that I know. I have acquired some pens and ink beforehand to go with the paper I have to insure that communication can be made possible, and was told they were usable even by dragonborn. If you have any requests or inquiries, i humbly ask for them so that I may Make the situation easier and less stressful for both you and the townsfolk." Then samael bows his head and awaits their response
(Honesty is the best policy here, people. 3 nothics together are a tough cookie, especially when they're together. don't start a fight if you don't think you can win.
also, a little fiat here was used due to the fact that samael would have gone to a bookstore or writing shop to purchase the necessary implements, and he did. it's AG.)
Trinjya keeps supporting the futil attempts at diplomacy by trying to not do anything that could be interpreted as "hostile" by the creatures (which is espescially hard to do as two of them suddenly start moving after the one got's his hand on the mace). She however inches closer to the rest of the group waiting for the moment when things are going to start going down.
Perigord translates the message in its entirety through deep speech, adding that he is willing to heal the injured nothic to more fully create a peaceful outcome.
As you translate the letter into deep speech, you notice a visible change in the nothics. The one injured by the mace continues to run, however the other two that are watching, their eyes widen, the growling stops and they move around to the pillars, their claws digging into the old stone work. As this is happening, Gandalon is able to fly across to the large tome. Closing it as quietly as the familiar can, then lifting the large and heavy tome, he flies up towards the roof and ready to deliver the tome. When you finish translating the letter, the eyes narrow and stare intently at Perigord.
Perigord, make two deception checks please: first is DC 19, second is DC 18
"something tells me that they may not have.....taken the deep tongue well." samael remarks, worried he may have damned himself and others in his quest for peace.
"I wouldn't be so worried. I think they understood, which is more then we expected. I've also offered to heal the injuries the one that took the mace sustained, so that should help." As he says this, though, Perigord's brows furrow in dismay- the Nothics don't seem to be responding in any way so far.
The creature on the west tilts its head as it stares at Perigord. It barks something, with a coughing and growling, and points north and east of its position among the pillars. The other continues to watch you with a distrusting eye. Now however, as you stand here in the gaze of the two nothics, you get this uneasy feeling that something else is watching. As you scan the room however, you see nothing else.
"That, or where it would like to have dinner. As far as I'm concerned, this place is starting to get to me, I worry."
(Gandalon! Drop the book quietly by the ladder and go check out those northern pillars. I get a feeling we're not alone here, and I don't want to be caught out.)
OOC: Can we see the running nothic? I thought we could. But if not, then Perigord unbuckles and sets down his rapier before moving in that direction, calling out in Deep Speech "Hello, nothic! If you wouldn't mind, I can heal you; our apologies for the harm incurred."
"I agree with Horatio, this place gives me the creeps. And those creatures don't even understand us. How are we going to get them to stay away from the town?"
The nothic running disappeared around a bookcase to the north and you lose sight of it.
Gandalon flies across to the ladder and places the tome down. As he flies around the room, he sees no other creatures, nor the injured creature, just the two nothics that watch you closely. Though your familiar does inform you of some sort of hole in the floor to the north behind the bookcases. Also to the north, there are several staircases that lead up to the east and west landings.
Horatio looks around the room. In a quiet voice, he informs his companions of the recent developments.
"How are we feeling if a fight breaks out? Looks like this place is far, far larger than I had first thought. No simple hole in the ground - we are looking at a sunken structure, of unknown origin. Curses, this will be worse than I thought. Perigord, keep them talking."
(Gandalon! The hole! See what you can see, my friend.)

Edit: Lol, the bonus wouldn't even have mattered
(This result amuses me as a player.)
(OOC - it is quite polar. Just waiting on PM response from Murfle and I'll continue us along :) )
OOC: Yeah lol, the highest and lowest I can feasibly get. I sent the PM, sorry about not checking.
