The trace of psionic energy emitting from the rats has raised possibility of suspicious activities that might be influenced by the presence of something related to the Mindflayers. Who knows they might have been lurking around Maerwyn in plain sight yet more cautiously than the bloodhunter!
With a swift swirl of the cloak she attempts to hide from the plain sight of any passers-by. The Cloak of Arachnida letting her to crawl both vertically and horizontally across the street or on the walls bordering the alleys, wherever she wishes to move, finally settling in a dark place hanging upside-down from the ceiling.
Dusk leads them to the alley where he saw the intellect devourers and glowing rats. Before they get too close, while on the way, near the start of their journey, he dismisses Muggles causing the familiar to disappear to its personal pocket dimension. Dusk then casts a couple of spells, one is simply Mage Armor cast upon Wispy. The second spell tugs on reality, wishing to protect his mind - using Wish to replicate the Mind Blank spell upon himself. After this he continues to lead the way until they get close to the destination and then holds back as Magron begins his scouting with Arcane Eye.

When they get close to the alley Magron casts Arcane eye and scouts ahead with that. Moving it into the alley and when it sees nothing there it will try to go into the hole where the Rats are coming out of.

Maerwyn has no idea if she has been successful to hide from the psionic creatures (Intellect Devourers) who might have been moving around the glowing rats (see #170). But she's well aware of the fact that an hour is about to pass since she had left the tavern, soon she must return to the tavern where she's supposed to meet the party. She might have heard something familiar, sounds of footsteps or a voice?(possibly belonging to Magron). Her natural green pair of orbs starts to glow in darkness with a faint red tint when she attempts to use dark vision to find out if someone familiar to her is present somewhere near.

"We can provoke them into striking us first, then they'll have no choice other than getting out of that hole"- a feminine voice suggests a way to engage in a good fight and finish those devourers all at once. Maerwyn has interrupted the conversation of two of her familiar gentlemen since she wanted to let them be known of her presence. She's been wondering if her absence has bothered them to some extent, or are they just careless enough to leave someone behind?
Maerwyn dismisses the thought while she crawls down from the ceiling, the glowing crimson orbs resetting to the natural colour without any trace of transformation. She's relieved to find her new companions, and she had better make the best out of it. "Why haven't the intellect devourers attacked us yet? Don't you think that it's obnoxiously suspicious? And what's wrong with these rats?"- she speaks after sending a quick gesture towards the rats while resting her hands on both sides of the waist, squinting her eyes as if she were lost in her own thoughts.

Grom had followed along silently. He had runs ins with the mind flayers before, knew himself vulnerable to their powers. Now, though, he was not alone. Still, for all their power, if they were not careful they would be slain and eaten by those aberrations. He kept his thoughts to himself and instead replied to Maerwyn. "They are both sentries and lures. It was clever of the mind flayers to post them here. If we attack and they win, so much better, but if they lose and die then their masters would have good information about us and our capabilities, while at the same time the battle would give the illithid time to prepare. Finally, if we win easily, then they will simply flee deeper into their base and throw minions at us, or perhaps retreat to another plane of existence altogether.
Yet we must go past them. I would suggest, therefore, that we assume the mind flayers know about us already and attack while holding back our strength. Use only weapons or weaker spells to dispatch them. That way their masters might form mistaken impressions about us."
Maerwyn listens to the sorcerer intently, reconsidering his extent of wisdom with earnest attention. Then her gaze is averted from him, eagerly tracing the silvery intricate patterns decorating her tabaxi companion that shines in bright gray under her darkvision surveillance. She has subconsciously started to rub her cheek with her thumb, then stops abruptly in caution so that the facepaint concealing her tattoo does not wear off.
"That's really an impressive idea, Grom! Besides, I'd like to be assisted by both Dusk and Magron"- she accepts the suggestion without further debate while nipping on her lower lip with pearl white canines. "Where is that little badger buddy of yours, Magron? Couldn't he/she fit into the hole? We should send your buddy inside before trying to sneak in, let's see if the pea brains will let him/her pass unscathed!"
"Excellent ideas," Dusk muses, "my ability towards direct battle are limited anyway, when we are ready I can send in Wispy in against the rats - with his whirlwind ability he could potentially scatter them and break up the swarm. This would clear the way to the intellect devourers. You said there were three? If I get close enough I could send in a bubble of acid - a simple cantrip - and that might cause them to come outside where Maerwyn and this magnificent metal badger could be waiting - as soon as they leave they strike with claw and blade while the sorcerer and I hurl our cantrips. If we succeed, we can pick off any remaining rats and proceed further. Does this seem agreeable?"
