You are all experienced adventurers of some sort or another. You have traveled from afar, hearing rumors, or recieving requests, to come to this place. It is a little out-of-the-way village, barely even a blip on any map of the area. The village is Stag Crossing. It has no inn, no tavern, only honest farming folk who have gathered into a small community beside their fields.
Upon arrival you are told of a strange tunnel that recently opened up near the town. The farmers tell you that no one who has gone in has ever come out again. They also say that livestock has gone missing, with tracks leading back to the tunnel mouth.
You have been requested, as a group of powerful adventurers, to venture into this tunnel, find out who, or what, is down there, and, if possible, return with the lost villagers.
You find yourself standing at the top of a slope that leads down into darkness. It is early morning, with dew clinging to the plants nearby. You can each describe your character now and decide how you move forward.
"Hello," says an odd pallid man with slightly green skin and face-paint in fine clothes "My name is Ravocrath, I think that my magical talents will come in handy in this strange cave"
A brooding half-elf stands off to the side and silently nods to the party. He scans the group that he will be fighting and dying with. He mutters an incantation and a frosty magical force covers him, Armor of Agathys.
Once satisfied with the result, he gestures in the air and inky black trails follow his hands and grow in size until they coalesce into an ornate halberd. He flourishes the weapon with controlled and practiced skill.
”The name’s Xap. Let’s see if we can rescue anyone.”
A dwarf in a floppy hat wearing half plate and carrying a shield waves to the party, smilling. Around him are 3 figures in Chainmail carrying Glaives, there faces covered by a helmet, and moving stiffly, flowers are stuck into their armor. Larry exudes enthusiasm and seems a jolly fellow. However one of his eyes seems to stare off in different directions, almost as if it has a mind of it's own. "Hey guys, my name is Larry...I serve the darklord. The sibillant beast. He who must not be named aloud (I can whisper it if you want). He may have a bad reputation as he wants sacrifice now and then, but if you only sacrifice Evil, than you are doing good......."
He will pause to introduce his 3 comrades. "This is my brother Bob, and and my Other Brother Bob, and my second cousin Karen. They don't speak much."
For anyone that get's close to the 3....
A Slight odor of death emanates from the three inadequately masked by the flowers stuck into the chainmail....they are clearly undead Zombies.....
"Hi! HiHiHi!" a small kobold wearing kind of loincloth, a scabbard for a short sword, several leather straps holding small throwing darts and a slim backpack, says excitedly to all in turn. "I'mZenga! TryNotToStepOnMe,Huh?"
Zenga walks around, looking at everyone, poking at things, and people, unaware and uncaring that it's... annoying.

Looking down the mouth of the dark tunnel you wouldn't see much other than dirt and roots. The tunnel appears to turn after about 30 feet, blocking sight of what lay beyond that.
As a group of brave adventurers though you hasten forth. Rounding the bend you find a short tunnel, the dirt turning to stone and the stone leading to a door. The door looks solid, made of iron, and is slightly ajar...
Pushing the door open, the three zombies stumble forward, into a large chamber. As the rest of you follow them inside, you see poles with heads on them, throughout the chamber. Several of those heads look quite fresh and you start to doubt the likelihood of saving those farmers who went missing. Along the walls are tapestries, detailing hulking brutes murdering and torturing in graphic acts of violence.
"OfCourseNobodyReturned, TheyAllForgotTheirHeads! HowCanYouFindTheWayHomeWithoutYourFaceAndEyes??" Zenga asks, looking up at the heads, looking to see if there's anyone he recognizes, and of his kobold brethren, hoping to see some gnome heads...
"GnomeHeads, GnomeHeads, RolyPolyGnomeHeads! GnomeHeads, GnomeHeads, EatThemUp, Yum..." Suddenly Zenga pauses and looks around, realizing he had been singing that aloud. Softly, but aloud. He forces a laugh and moves on the checking out the tapestries, trying to determine what types of brute are depicted.

As you are all looking around this chamber you do notice a couple of movements, the tapestry in a couple locations getting disturbed by something behind it. Suddenly though those tapestries fall and several hulking brutes rush forward to attack...
(I am running surprise a bit differently here. I know there are lots of ways it can be done, but how I work it is that, if any member of your party has a passive perception greater than an individual enemy's stealth result, then that enemy does not get surprise. Your group's highest perception was 17, which means the bugbears here had to roll better than a 17 to get surprise on you. A lot of them did though, so we'll be going into that next...)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Ravocrath sends poison spraying at the bugbear brute that tried to hit them, the bugbear coughing nad sputtering as the poison hits them hard. (Failed save.)
BU9 moves forward and attacks bob1 Attack: 6 Damage: 14
BU1 strikes back at Ravocrath Attack: 15 Damage: 9
BU10 moves and attacks larry Attack: 6 Damage: 5
BU3 attacks larry Attack: 10 Damage: 8
BU4 strikes at bob1, if he is up, or moves and strikes at Karen. Attack: 6/6 Damage: 18
(If against Bob1 the attack has advantage, so use best roll of the two. If against Karen, then no advantage and ue just the first roll.)
