<@InkedBee it's more of an improvised weapon, but you. Oukd use it as a javelin or something you're proficient with. It's 10lbs or less and it probably broke away from the massive metallic stationary arms that were damaged when something large was removed from the very center of rhe cylindrical shaft above you.>
As Tabaqui enters the strange portal, he sees a different setting in the space beyond. The ground is low grass that looks to have been nibbled by sheep or goats. The soil is good, strong dirt. The horizon seems to reach as far as you can imagine. The sky is deep and vast and brilliant, filled almost to bursting with stars undimmed by moonlight and glittering in a sea of colorful, stellar clouds. The gorgon can be seen slithering toward a small humble structure. From outside, it appears to be a cozy cottage with stone walls and a roof of sod. Smoke rises gently from the chimney. Thirty feet before the door of the cottage stands a statue of a human man.
Let's say the cottage is 200ft away, the gorgon presently 90ft from the building, 69 from the statue and headed towards it.

Round 9
Tabaqui attempts to blend into the shadows while following the gorgon.
Stealth 28
He will use his move and his bonus action dash to sneak after the gorgon.
(Before deciding on whether to attack, I would need a ruling on whether sneak attack would apply in this case. WOuld the gorgon be surprised? Would Tabaqui have advantage for any reason?)

Did the swarms of snakes disappear when the gorgon went through the portal?

Yeah, she's sobbing uncontrollably while dashing toward the statue with no regard what is behind her, so I think advantage does apply, especially after the successful stealth check. Basically an unseen attacker, despite rhe technical lack of cover.
<I'm using her passive perception minus 5 for DA, btw>

Did the swarms of snakes disappear when the gorgon went through the portal?
<They do not, I just forgot about them. It's technically a bonus action for her to dismiss them, but they are under her control and she isn't controlling them, so are they still 'swarms'? I guess, yeah, they're just not doing anything at the moment.>
(@Wile_E_Coyote, does the Hawk see the other side of the portal? He is near the entrance and can act independently. Can Marlyth see the scenery too through the hawk's eye?)
<I'm really hand waving all the nonmagical vision issues right now, in an effort to reduce complexity. Regarding the 'magic' part, there is no reason the hawk couldn't see through an open door into the space beyond. I'm also not really fixated on distances in the moment, so if that"s an issue for anyone, its not an issue. >
<reminder, because the environment is static outside if the space with Tabaqui and the gorgon, initiative is not effectivefor anyibe else; just do something if you want to do it. I'm assuming the gorgon will do something when and if Tabaqui finishes his action, if she can>
"Shouldn't we find out where Tabaqui went to?" Tauzan asks. He moves quickly towards the portal. Once there, he cautiously moves through, looking to see what happened to Tabaqui.

As Tabaqui witnesses the gorgon weeping, his resolve wavers for a moment. He knows something of loss. However, you don't become a Waterdeep assassin by letting feelings get in the way of the job. They had tried to reason with the gorgon, and failed. This powerful creature had nearly killed them all, and had imprisoned Hamish in stone for decades, seemingly without remorse, stopping only when her own life was in danger. If he walked away now, countless future beings might lose their lives due to his mercy. No, better to press the attack when destiny offers an opportunity....
Tabaqui quietly nocks another arrow and lets fly at the gorgon's back. I believe he is about 50 feet away.
Tabaqui's Elven accuracy feat lets him roll three attack dice instead of two if he has advantage on a DEX based attack so: 18, 15, 14
Tabaqui's Assassinatefeature grants him an automatic critical hit if the creature is surprised. I will roll normal damage, if you determine the gorgon is surprised, just double it.
Marlyth's nails suddenly transform into multiple set of beastly claws as if she's been equipped with natural weapon. She stands up with an expression of irritation plastered on her face and frowns at the view of non-hostile swarm of snakes. Without giving it a second thought, she claws at the swarm of poisonous snakes like a primal creature while punishing the creatures for their repeated assault.

As Marlyth paws about a swarm of snakes, scattering from the fray, Tabaqui dispatches the girgon, whise name is lost to the ages. Struck in the back with a volley of arrows, she collapses at the feet of the statue. With her dying breath, her last words part her lips, "Karhikon, my.. love." Her chest rises and falls once more, then her tail falls limp as she expires.
Seeing the gorgon go down, Tabaqui approaches cautiously, avoiding looking at her face. Unsure of the regenerative properties of such a magical creature, he will remove his dagger and decapitate the corpse as a precaution, leaving the head face-down on the ground. He will quickly search the body, and then examine the statue.
Investigation 22
Next he will move cautiously toward the cottage, actively watching for traps.
A bunch of coins fly through the portal and hit the gorgon's corpse, each impacri g with a small 'thwap!'
Tabaqui sees a ring on the girgon's left hand, set with a blue jade stone. It does not shine (its not reflective).
Looking around, the starry sky is clearly a flimsy illusion. The space is the interior of a dome. It is all an easy illusion to see through, no ability check required. Any creature that walks to the outer edge of the refuge can touch the sky—that is, the dome encasing the extradimensional space—and finds it smooth and solid. The stars twinkle and the clouds drift about, but they are merely imagery.
From outside, it appears to be a cozy cottage with stone walls and a roof of sod. Smoke rises gently from the chimney. Inside, the cottage is mundane—even quaint. It’s made of a single, long room with a fur-covered bed at one end and a large cooking hearth at the other. A wood fire crackles. A wooden bowl sits on the mantlepiece above it. Additionally, a simple silver tuning fork hangs from the ceiling from the same cord as another surviving chime (like the one in area 10).
Just so we don't forget it. If tabaqui does take that ring she was wearing. The gorgon had a ring of water walking on. You can identify it when you rest.
