As you approach the inn (a modest, two story roadhouse), you notice to the south, in front of an official looking building, a newly painted board emblazoned with "ADVENTURERS NEEDED" and several notices nailed up.
OOC: I'm assuming you all enter the inn. If you remain outside, let me know what you are doing so I can set the scene.
It's dinnertime as you enter the Stonehill Inn. The smell of roasted meat and savory vegetables fills your nostrils as you enter. It's a warm, homey space, with a smallish number of patrons, mostly eating and drinking. The crowd is mostly human, though you see an elf sitting with two dwarves. A short human male is making his way back behind the bar after delivering a bowl of steaming stew to one of the patrons.
What do you do next?

As Mathark enters the roadhouse he sniffs the air "That smells good, nothing beats a good meal after long days on the road" he moves towards an empty table near the fire and places his pack on the ground, he takes out his stone dragons egg and places it on the on the ground as if to warm it by the fire."A pint of your ale and a plate of that delicious smelling food" He tells the short human after waving him down.
Wynn takes a slow glance around the Inn, giving a friendly nod to the elf as he catches their eye. He makes his way to Mathark’s table and drops himself into an empty chair that faces the door. He shrugs off his pack and calls after the server, “I’ll have the same, please.”
He takes a moment to enjoy the warmth of the room and appears genuinely grateful to be off the road.
”I gotta say that traveling with you lot makes the miles soar by. Hey Mathark, have you come up with a name for your bow yet?”
Dargrimm is glad the long journey to Phandalin was uneventful and in good company. After saluting the two dwarves and the elf at the adjacent table, Dargrimm wearily sits down at Mathark's table.
Ah, good to be back in civilization after a long time in wilderness. Can't say no to sleeping at a warm bed tonight. Friends, let me buy the first round of drinks.
Rohani visibly relaxes as they enter the inn as she feels the welcoming atmosphere wash over her. Looking at her companions, she sees the inn has a similar effect on most of them. She takes a seat at the table, slinging her axe off her back and resting it gently against the side of her chair.
At Dargrimm's offer, she grins, "Your generosity is setting a fine example for us all, Dargrimm. I'll get the second!"
When she catches the server's attention, she asks his recommended dish and orders it, along with a second round of drinks for the table.
"Cozy fire? Delicious fare? Flowing ale? Good company? Why this is the nicest evening I've had in quite some time," Rohani exclaims, savoring the respite from dangers of the wilds as much as the food and drink.
Poco heads directly to the bar after catching Matharks' eye. He points at the server, than to himself, then mouths, "Order for me too please."
He goes directly to the barkeep and asks "Are you in any need of an entertainer this evening? I would gladly play for a room and a meal. I assume that the 40/60 tip split is also the custom here as well?"
Mathark smiles at the offers of Rohani and Dargrimm to buy the first 2 rounds, "what a generous offer friends" Mathark smiles, "I guess the 3rd round is one me"
Seeing Poco mouth his request "Oh I cannot forget my new friend as well, make it another order please" he says to the barkeep before he leaves. "Let's hear a nice lively song Poco"He calls back to the Bard at overhearing his offer to the barkeep.
He goes directly to the barkeep and asks "Are you in any need of an entertainer this evening? I would gladly play for a room and a meal. I assume that the 40/60 tip split is also the custom here as well?"
"Happy to have you! We don't get too many traveling entertainers, so I wouldn't say anything is custom. When there is something new, I can almost guarantee the evening crowd will be tremendous. I'll make plenty on the drinks. I'll likely have to call in Dezra, my barmaid, and if you want to throw her like 25 and keep the rest that'd be fair. I would ask you play a song now, something mellow, good dinner accompaniment, just to make sure you are legit."
OOC: Got off work early so got a few minutes before mushy stuff.
Poco should make a Performance check, just to get an idea how impressed the barkeep is.
After the pleasantries, Proserpina will approach the innkeeper. She sets her maul down, headfirst, so it sits flat on the floor. "Well met friend. We have heard that this town may be in need of help. I am Syr Proserpina, Knight-errant of the noble Silver Dragon Frynderssur. These companions I met on the path here are also interested in helping as needed. Is there truth to these rumors? Know you of those in need?"
There's a lot going on. That damn dragon keeps being sighted, freaking everyone out. And the orcs have come down out of the mountains and are making trouble. Townmaster Wester put up that notice board outside the Hall to try and organize things.

Overhearing Poco's earlier conversation, Rohani does her best to carouse the other tables and drum up excitement. "Hey, you see that fellow over there by the bar? The one with the with the fancy lyre, yeah, that one! That's the legendary Poco, one of the finest musicians this side of the Sword Mountains! Rumor has it his tunes charm songbirds from the sky!"
As Rohani passes, her ears perk up at the mention of a dragon and stands to make her way towards Proserpina, standing beside her and nodding to the innkeeper a greeting in respect. "Yes, please. We would love to hear more."
"A lot ot the recent troubles started when a white dragon apparently appeared near Icespire Peak. As it has hunted and thrown it's weight around its been pushing other creatures further down the mountains where they are causing more trouble. It keeps widening its range. It was spotted oiver the town and drove the Townmaster, normally a pretty stable person, into near shock, he hasn't been the same since."
"You could ask Elwyn about it too, he has an outlying orchard and farm to the east of town and lost his horses. He's the elven gentleman talking to the two dwarves."
OOC: Map of the area, Icespire Peak is to the east of the town of Phandalin that you are in.

"It Must be Fate!" Mathark exclaims! "I left my homeland in order to prove that I am worthy of this egg hatching, and what do we find but a dragon, what else can it be except Fate!" Mathark Jumps up excited "We must go talk with Elwyn and the Townmaster"
Remembering that food and ale are coming he sits back down, still tired from the long journey "I suppose that can wait until after some good food and drink"
Wynn's eyes widen at the mention of a dragon nearby. He accepts his food and drink gratefully, but has lost a bit of his enthusiasm for the meal. He mutters in between bites, "I'm all for making some coin, but what the hell are we going to do against a dragon? Let's look for jobs that take us in the opposite direction of that Icespire Peak."
Wynn looks around at his companions and, noting their excitement and passion about the dragon, lets out a sigh of resignation. "You're a fantastic lot, all of you, but you'll need to buy me many more rounds before I start chasing after dragons."
Poco warms up his fingers a bit and starts to play a quieter melody with just his lyre. He then starts to sing
”So you think that it's over,
That your love has finally reached the end. Any time you call, night or day, I'll be right there for you if you need a friend.
It's gonna take a little time. Time is sure to mend your broken heart. Don't you even worry, pretty darlin'. I know you'll find love again Yeah
Love is all around you Love is knockin' outside your door. Waitin' for you is this love made just for two Keep an open heart and you'll find love again, I know.”
Wynn stops mid-chew as Poco begins to play (slay). There's something about the ballad that causes Wynn to reconsider what he is capable of. Maybe it's the poetry of the lyrics or Poco's expert performance, it doesn't really matter. At this moment, in this inn, Wynn suddenly feels heroic.
He takes an angry bite of bread and exclaims a little too loudly, "Dammit, I will keep an open heart! Why not us? Why can't we kill a dragon?!?"
Poco stops playing and places his lyre across his back. He smiles at the exchange between Mathark and the children.
"Ah yes, I agree. A rest and some drink sounds good."
