Aura drifted through the rather empty streets of Good Mead, a small smile on her frost-bitten lips. She had been staying here for a few days now, boarding at a local hostel, and after a days resting from her long journey, was ready to explore the small town. She stopped at a few local stalls, browsing wares and buying trinkets that caught her eye. Continuing to wander down a few streets and alleyways, she eventually found herself at the doors of the Mead Hall, and upon a few seconds of mulling it over decided to indulge in a drink or two to warm up her frozen fingers.
And so the genasi entered the tavern, wafting between the crowded tables gracefully. She felt a few eyes land upon her as she did, perhaps due to her pale blue skin and white hair; both marks or her Djnn heritage, or perhaps simply because of the small bag of coins she had hanging by her hip. Aura paid this no mind, simply continuing onwards towards the bar, her mind empty apart from the mouth watering thought of her favourite heated brew.
She leaned against the counter and offered the burly barkeeper a cheerful smile before ordering the drink she had been looking forward too, her flowery voice full of breath as it mixed unnaturally with the surrounding air.
As you enter the tavern, a feeling of joy comes over you, brought on by the excitement and happiness of the bar/tavern, even in though times. As you quietly look around, you notice three others who seem to peak your interest.
A halfling is speaking with the barkeeper, who shouts “better pay for that before leaving!” to another person of interest, before chuckling, and resuming conversation. The half elf the barkeeper shouted at seems to be setting up some kind of game, then things get tense.
“Oi! shorty!” The half elf shouts over to the halfling, “Do you know how to play dragonchess?” The halflings hand speeds towards the hilt of his sword, and the feel of joy in the room seems to die out for a moment, before the music resumes, and the warmth of a large fire in the center of the room seems to bring back the joy after the tense moment. Then, the halfling drops his hands, and walks over to the elf. “I’ll play anything, if the coin is right,” he says.
Just then, another halfling walks in, asks for a glass of mead, and goes around, seeming to look for something. You think that those are the only people of interest, when you feel a pair of eyes drilling into the back of your skull. You turns quickly, and see an elderly dwarf woman, staring straight at you. The others seem like lighthearted adventurers, but this dwarf seems to be… something else.
Ooc: please hold on speaking with the dwarf while I try to pull in a friend to play her character
FALSER
The barkeeper smiles pleasantly at the praise to his name. “You’re just to kind,” he says, jokingly. As you pass over your gold begrudgingly, he smiles, but not a full smile, seeming to have wanted more to your past. “Another glass?” He asks, after you answer the Half elf’s question about games.
QUAXLY
The barkeep seems to wince as you ask for mead. You wonder why, as the town always has a reputation of “never ending fountains of mead,” so another glass shouldn’t have been a problem. You file this away, and look for a game of cards.
Make a perception check.
IAMRED
As you carefully, expertly set up your dragonchess, you hear the halfling speaking with the barkeep. You find some points of their talk interesting, mainly the halfling’s reluctance to tell of their story, and background. You turn, asking for a game, and are startled when his hands immediately leap for his blades at the sound of your voice. You quickly recover though, when he asks what the price is.
Aura
When you reach the counter, the barkeeper looks at you, and blushes the smallest bit when you smile. “What can I get for you today, my lady?” When you answer that you would like a nice, warm glass of Ten-Towns finest mead, he seems a small bit panicked, then regains his calm composure. He turns to a young, spindly man in the back.
”Oi! Another glass of mead, for this done young woman!” The young man also looks panicked, but doesn’t seem to hide it as well as the barkeep. He turns back to you. “One gold, or one story as payment, my lady.” You are about to give him his payment, in either form, when the young man hurries back, a mug full of mead, and topped with cream in his hand.
He whispers in the barkeeps ear, fast, but because of his panic, you catch a few snippets if conversation. “Last barrel after this one’s gone… murder happened again, this time it was bryn shander… no more shipments.”
The barkeep maintain his composure, but if you weren’t here, you’re sure he would be freaking out. He hands you your mead, and awaits payment, while keeping an eye on another 4 patrons, all who seem adventurous like you. They may even own the horses outside.
Why had he been singled out so quickly? Surely his troubles hadn’t caught up to him already. Falser took a long pull from his tankard, his dark eyes scanning the hooded figure while he did so. There was that word again. Shorty. Instead of anger, it brought up another emotion that spelled just as much danger for Falser Copperkettle. Competitiveness. He waved his hand dismissively over his shoulder as he made his way toward the challenger’s table. “Aye, Calamor, and probably another dozen afterward but it won’t be my coin that pays for it.”
Falser’s attention is caught by the three newcomers as he takes his seat at the table. It wasn’t a rare occurrence to run into one of his own kind but considering how everything was going it was a welcome. He gave a shrill whistle to the other halfling that was clearly wandering through the tables looking for some money to make. “Tell the human writing his diary and the beautiful blue lass to come along as well.” A bit of interference if this did happen to be an assassin wouldn’t hurt. The thief drained the last of his ale and slammed the empty tankard down on the table, a savage grin spread across his tiny face.
Ooc: probably going to be my last post of the night guys-correction, I’ll stay on till 10:30 CST
QUAXLY
You look around the room, taking in the scenery. There is a large fire pit, blazing with fire in the center of the room, ornate decorations adorning the sides. Chandeliers hang from the ceiling illuminating the areas the firelight doesn’t touch. The room is warm, from body heat, mixed with heat from the blaze. The air smells of good mead, and drunken men and women. You see many games of cards in progress, but nothing seems to have an open spot.
Then, a shrill whistle pierces the air. You cover your ears, then realize it was directed at you. Another halfling is waving you over to a table where a game of dragon chess seems to be in progress.
“You there! Come on ove! Tell the human writing his diary and the beautiful blue lass to come along as well.”
FALSER
You seem to draw the attention of the other halfling, and he scans the room, looking for the two others you told him about. Calamor smiles at your seeming endless pool of confidence, the turns around, but not before you see a look of concern apon his face….
REDBOI
The halfling across from you whistles to another halfling that is wandering the tavern. “Tell the human writing his diary and the beautiful blue lass to come along as well.” He finishes. He turns back to you. Seeming to think about all the mead that money will buy. Then you seem to notice something…
"This has either gotten very interesting or very dangerous." Bjorn thinks to himself, as he overhears the banter between the halfling and the half elf. He closes his journal and eyes the two while tiny silver scroll medallion hanging from his neck in contemplation. He notices the genasi at the bar, decides that he needs a drink (and a good reason to check out the newcomer.) He grunts softly getting up and heads for the bar to order a mug of ale, a small loaf bread and a hunk of cheese.
Was this for the dragonchess game? Cause if so, I won’t count it as you aren’t participating directly. If it’s for something else, can I have some insight into what it’s for?
K. I think ima head to bed too. Gotta have that energy for school! Been really fun, look forward to this tomorrow. Feel free to player to player interact until then! Seeya! ;)
Aura looked up at the barkeeper with wide and curious eyes, her interest piqued by the panicked whispering, her long ears particularly perking up when she hears the word "murder." She hands the barkeep the required gold piece and is just about to question him, when she hears a loud and shrill whistle come from the patrons behind her. She turns from the bar to see a fierce-looking male halfling sitting with a half elf, seemingly about to play some sort of game. The halfling seems to be beckoning to her and a few strangers. Perhaps he wanted them to play? Seemingly distracted from the barkeeper and his young attendant, the airheaded genasi drifted over, eager for opportunity of watching this strange game and the possibility of meeting new companions in a land where she knows no one.
Calamor smiles at the opportunity to make more money, and gain some patrons. He passes the coin to the attendant, who places it in a small pouch, full of other coins.
