Calamor hears you talking, and says, “Dragonchess! Why, I haven’t played a game of dragonchess in years!” He starts to tear up. “I remember when me and me mum would, *sniffle* get the chess boards down, and we would spend hours just playing and talking. Those were the better times, yes, those were the better times. Before all the theft, and murder. Yes, I miss that time. My mum, she succumbed to the cold a few months back you see, so please pardon my momentary breakdown,” he apologizes. “Mind if I play a round, after those two men?”
Calamor’s look of concern seemed very out of place when compared to his clearly hospitable nature. Falser made a mental note to inquire about it if the opportunity presented itself, but it would have to wait because his fellow halfling and the others were making their way over. Another mental debate. Which was more beautiful? The exotic woman with a blue hue to her skin and the rather plump coin purse that hung from her belt. Both. The answer was both.
Falser feigned shock at the half-elf’s warning to approaching group. “My lady wounds my pride.” He grips his chest in mock pain. “Me? A cheater? My honor would not allow me to commit such a immoral act.” Honor? Pride? It must have been the atmosphere that spurred the rogue on but one thing was for sure, Falser Copperkettle was pouring it on thick. His opponent’s proposed wager was a good start. Thirty gold pieces could possibly net him a few more tankards and a warm place to sleep. ”Thirty gold pieces it is then.” Any further conversation ceased when the barkeep approached and lost himself in a emotional tirade about his clearly deceased mother. Stress and loss. Something really was going on here. Falser would most definitely be leaving at first light. He’d be a bearded gnome before he got caught up in someone else’s problems.
“My chair is yours, Calamor. Have some more ale brought over and I’ll show you how to play this game in such a masterful way that even your mother would be proud.”
Calamor seems shocked that you would give up you seat. “No, no. I can’t take your chair! My friend, I’ll have that ale brought right over, and pay you the winnings if I do happen to become lucky, as compensation for your kindness. Jerry! Bring some more mead over here!” All of Calamor’s anxiety all seems to leave his body as he takes a seat, and grabs a mug of mead from Jerry, the assistant.
Ooc: if you meant after the current chess game, Ferris, just let me know.
ooc: Falser, you are good at roleplaying, also you can check the ooc thread for the checks you can choose, and then pm the DM what you picked and what you got.
The game has begun, and the table draws a crowd as you two begin to expertly move your pieces across the board. The crowd grows as you continue playing, with cLear lines being draw between the two sides. One side chants, FALSER! FALSER! FALSER! but that crowd is dwarfed in size by the mob of people chanting, KIMARA! KIMARA! KIMARA! The confident half elf seems to be a crowd pleaser.
As the game goes on, Kimara seems to be taking a more expert approach, weighing the consequences of each move before going for the best. Falser seems to be going with a more deceptive approach in the first round, feigning trouble, and pretending to be panicked, drawing Kimara further into his trap.
There is a great uproar as Kimara pins down Falser though, and defeats him. His deception failed!
Aura weaves through the crowd that has gathered around the table, effortlessly slipping through the mass of people and eventually making her way up the front. The halfling and half-elf have started their game, and the genasi watches with interest, taking in the unfamiliar board and pieces. She tried to take note of the moves both players are making but soon gives up, the unruly roar of the crowd distracting her from her observations. Some yell the word “Falser,” and the other “Kimara.” Aura doesn’t know what this means, perhaps it’s part of the game? For the meantime the genasi is happy to simply watch the game, the shouts, drunken laughter and competitiveness filling the tavern more than enough to keep her amused.
The crowd is ramped up now, mugs of mead left on tables as everyone in the tavern comes to watch the game, one not seen in Ten-Towns often, as knowledge of playing the game has faded.
“Make you move!” Calamor shouts over the crazy crowd.
Kimara moves the pieces in a calculated manner, watching as Calamor moves his pieces much like he saw Kimara move them last round, but much to his disappointment, Kimara outplays him, seeming to anticipate his plays.
Dragonchess-round 3
The crowd is going wild by the time the third and final round approaches. Even though he knows he has no chance of winning, Calamor is determined to succeed in beating Kimara in this last stretch.
He does something that Kimara doesn’t seem to anticipate, watching his moves, but with a swirl of fake outs and false plays, seeming to confuse Kimara. But only in the first portion of the round! Kimara catches on fast, and with a surprising, merciless finish, she takes the third and final round, a 3/3 win!
Aura turns to the halfling next to her, intrigued by his proposition. "Cards? I'm afraid I'm not familiar with that game either. I would not be opposed to learning though." Her attention quickly turns back to the game as the crowd grows louder, roaring in both victory and defeat. "Ah! It appears the half-elf has defeated the halfling. How fascinating!"
((Ooc: I probably won't be able to reply for a few hours sorry, I'm quite busy.))
Impossible. Well, not really, but unfathomable. At least it was to Falser anyways. The halfling stared at the chessboard momentarily, a brief look of astonishment flashed across his face before being replaced by his mischievous grin once more. “Well I be damned. Good on ya, Kimara.” Falser congratulated the victor smoothly while standing and letting Calamor take his place. Was now the best time to admit he hadn’t a single gold coin on his person? No, definitely not. ‘Wait until the last possible moment. Better to ride it out than make a run for it. I’d be steaming pile of crag cat shite by sunrise.’ The halfling gave Calamor a clap on the shoulder and looked him dead in the eye, which was much easier now that the man was seated. “Avenge me, Calamor, avenge me!” And with that being said, Falser snatched up his tankard and melted into the crowd.
He stood not too far from the other he had called over and glanced over from them from time to time while Kimara went out to win. She was good. Falser would have to go at it a different way should they ever sit across from each other again. “To the chess master herself, I raise my tankard as a humbled victim.” The halfling had once again found himself standing on a stool with his tankard of mead thrust into the air, foam sloshing over the edge and smattering the top of his head. Calamor was going to kill him. “Now that is over, I do believe it is high time we all get thoroughly sloshed!” He rapidly brings the mug to his lips and pours a generous amount down his gullet, drops dripping down his chin and splashing across his leather cuirass. It felt good to finally unwind after running for so long. Falser hopped down from the stool and winked at the other halfling before waggling his eyebrows at the genasi, tankard once more touching lips. If there was fun to be had than by the gods, Falser Copperkettle was going to have it!
The half-elf looked down at the halfling, with the most smug grin she had had this entire time "Well, has the halfling admitted defeat? Thanks for the compliments, but it'll still be 30 gold."
She wasn't in the best condition in terms of money, so she still wanted all the money.
”Well halfling,” he says to Falser, “you gave a good try, and let me try my hand at beating the self proclaimed chess master,” winks at Kimara, “so I’ll cover your bet.” He hands the thirty gold to Kimara. “Good game. Brings back the memories,” he says, smiling dreamily. “And you,” he says, turning back to Falser with a smile on his face, “don’t go betting more than you can pay.” He then gives Falser 30 gold too.
”Oh! And once you’re done talking with the crowd! I’ve got some things to tell you, as you seem the adventurous folk!” He shouts over his shoulder, walking back to the bar counter.
The crowd then pulls even closer to Kimara, everyone trying to bargain for lesson prices lower than 5 gold.
Kimara, liking her new found fame, announces "Ok then, all of ye get a discount! Now 2 gold!" Before sitting back down and yelling to Calamor "just a second and I'll be right over!"

Either way you both cough up 30 coins lol
The half-elf smugly stood up, before announcing "And THAT'S how ye play dragonchess people! Classes are five gold!"
