(Everyone) The encounter was actually over when the Arch acted. Think of it as like a geyser activating at different intervals throughout the day. I still need Con saves from those who have not posted them.
"At ease everyone, now that I've seen the arch if memory serves correct this arch provided a gateway to a shadow road connecting to the white road. I think the initial blast was random and not directed at us specifically. Let us fall back a bit and study this for a bit." offers Brix
Due to upcoming surgery and getting a new house, I'm going to have to end the campaign. I want to thank all of you for playing. Its been a blast. Hopefully, I can launch a new campaign in about 8 weeks.
Yeah - thanks for the campaign up to this point Larren12. Completely understand that life sometimes gets in the way. We appreciate you!
Besides, next level, Soren was going to get Conjure Animals and there were going to be 8 wolves on the battlefield at all times, all with 20hp+ due to the temp HP Soren can give them as a shepherd druid. And no one wants to deal with that mess. Just think of all the wolf poop... =)
I definitely consider Giant Poisonous Snakes too! Especially if you need a swim speed or blindsight.
But you get 8 wolves too, and they get advantage on attacks due to pack tactics. Snakes get slightly less regular damage per hit, plus a bunch of poison damage but the CON save DC is super low and so many monsters have high CON or immunity to poison (like undead). And they just don't hit as often. The advantage that wolves get on their attacks is just so important at higher ACs.
Either way, the shepherd druid being able to add 10+ temp HP to all 8 wolves/snakes and their attacks being magical at level 6 onward turns it into an army.
When it is Fenrir's turn, he will use the skill Divine Sense to detect good and evil in the area.

Soren is puzzled at something so clearly outside the realm of nature. "What happens when we walk through it?"
He looks around a little nervously and is reassured to still see his summoned wolf Spike there growling at the arch. "Not that I'm volunteering."
Looks like others in the party are taking care of investigating the arch so Soren tries to sense for enemies all around.
