While Barburry and Hin have this hushed exchange of words and Mythe shares her words with Barburry. Vera, you send Trova, your unseen servant, to push the button. As she pushes the button, a deep blue streak of arcane energy releases forward and stops midair, where both Barburry and Vera saw the strange ripple of conjuration magic. As this streak of energy reaches the center of the ruins, another identical streak shoots forth from another of the now uncovered messages carved into the ruins, followed finally by a third bolt of energy. As all three bolts meet in the center, they merge and shoot down towards the ground and disappear. All that's left behind is a dancing tear in reality. It's not but a few inches wide, but focusing on it you can swear you see what appears to be a statue of a tall human female, curled hair to her shoulders, elbows tucked in at her sides, holding a large crystal orb in both hands out in front of her. "I - is this a portal?" Gryk squints towards the tear in reality. "I've heard of these. But I thought they were a myth, a pipe dream for the most powerful of wizards, I've never seen one before, or heard of anyone being capable of creating one."
Urtrogall walks over upon hearing the Gryk and seeing the blue light of bolts. He approaches the portal. “Does this lead to the academy? It’s a bit small…” On a whim, he shrugs drops his torch into the portal, provided it fits.
Urtrogall, as if you were wearing a metal belt and a massive magnet was in front of you, as you approach the portal you get sucked forward from your center of gravity, in a way that makes you feel as if you were falling backwards. You all watch as Urtrogall and his torch disappear from the ruins. A few moments later you see him in this tear in reality. Disappearing and reappearing as the tear wiggles about in place.
(OOC: Urtrograll, give me a dexterity saving throw to see if you can keep your balance, or if you fall prone as you land wherever it is you just appeared at)
Urtrogall, you land on your feet, though a little wobbly. You've never traveled through any sort of teleportation device before. It's a strange feeling. Hin, you get pulled in the exact same way as Urtrogall as you get within 5 feet of the portal. Pulled in by your center of gravity. You appear next to Urtrogall. Everyone else, you watch as Hin moves towards this tear and reappears inside of it next to Urtrogall.
(OOC:Hin give me a dexterity saving throw, as well. Everyone else can give me a dexterity save as well as they approach this portal)
Barburry waits just long enough to recover Scritches before rumbling their large frame to the tear as well. He may have winced, expecting some discomfort at the transition.
One by one you each walk towards the portal and get sucked in. Urtrogall, you land on your feet as you arrive at your destination. Hin quickly appears next to you, stumbling forward and falling to his hands and knees. Followed by the large, lanky, firbolg. Barburry, you come crashing through, tripping over Hin, falling on your butt yourself. Mythe, perhaps being accustomed to traveling through teleportation circles, due to being a noble, appears gracefully next to Urtrograll, standing on her feet. Vera, having traveled through special means from her previous location to the Prime Material Plane, has had experience with traveling through portals as well. She lands next to the now proneHin and Barburry. Finally, Gryk walks through the portal, appearing behind all of you he comes to a stop before running into Urtrogall, landing on his feet. As you all get to your feet you're immediately greeted by the darkness. It appears it's dark here, just like in the ruins where you originally were. However, the courtyard you find yourself in is well lit. Directly in front of you, you see the statue of the female you originally saw through the portal. Now that it's in front of you, you can see it in much better detail. The statue appears to be made of marble. It stands about 14 feet tall, curled hair to the shoulders, large rubies inlaid for eyes, a billowing cloak, and set of ornate robes, both gold leaf gilded around the edges. The elbows tucked into the sides, arms in front, holding a large crystal orb. You can see raw arcane power swirling around within the orb. There appears to be two more statues of equal height, the three seem to be back to back to back, creating a triangle. The next statue is of a tall, handsome human man, also made of marble, ornate robes and cloak also gold leaf gilded. You see a mess of shaggy hair on his head, large sapphires inlaid for eyes, holding a tome in one hand, and a quill in the other. He's presented in a pose as if preparing to write something into the tome. The final statue is of a female half-orc. Long dreadlocks, billowing in the same direction as her fur mantled cloak, large emeralds inlaid for eyes. Beneath the cloak, you see furs covering the majority of her body. Similarly to the other two statues, the cloak and furs are gold leaf gilded around the defined edges. She holds a chisel in one hand and a hammer in the other, in a striking position, as if to be carving something from a block of stone. All three statues appear to be mystically lit. There is no visible source of light, but it instead appears as if they're a source of light themselves.
Looking beyond the statues, you see a handful of people moving about both in this courtyard and towards buildings in the distance. Each person appears to have several globes of light floating around them. As you're looking around, you hear the pitter-patter of soft steps and a wooden tapping rapidly approaching you. As you look over to see who is approaching you, you see an short, elderly halfling woman with a cane quickly approaching you, being lead by two glowing orbs of light, and followed by two more. "Oh, looky here. What a happy day, the new recruits are here." She sings joyfully as she reaches the lot of you. "I saw the beacon go off, and I was just ecstatic. I ca -" she cuts herself off as her eyes trail off you all, towards the portal "Who brought that?" she points towards the portal, where you see Chatters, on the other side of the portal. You watch as Chatters sticks their arm towards the portal, with no reaction, then walks through it, with no reaction either. "Wh - why would you bring a skeleton here?" She grabs and rubs the bridge of her nose as she asks the question. "Uh, they're with me. Chatters is a traveling companion" Gryk speaks up "What do I need to do to get them through the portal?" He continues in a muffled voice "Very well" the halfling says. You watch as she flicks her wrist and the skeleton comes plummeting through the portal bouncing into the back of Gryk. As Chatters emerges from the portal, you all watch as a burst of energy erupts into the sky from between the statues. It shoots up about 60 or so feet, before exploding into a short firework-ish display. "You two -" she points at Gryk and Chatters "Report to the hallmaster, get this situated" She hands a slip of paper to Gryk and the two disappear into the night.
"Now" she looks back towards you all "It's a pleasure to meet you. I am Towermaster Edna Silentstep. I'm here to give you your welcome package, and welcome you to the academy!" As she says this, she hands all of you a small brooch and a small brochure. "Students and faculty alike are required to wear these at all times, and they must be displayed visibly." You notice she has a brooch pinned to her tunic. Hers is similar to the brooches she handed you, though it's more intricate and made of gold with a ruby inset in the center, where yours appear to be made of bronze with a topaz inset in it. "Now, since you all entered the academy together, you will be housed together, you will study together, you will attend your general classes together, and you should always know where each other are while on academy grounds." She looks at each of you "is that understood?" she chuckles to herself "I sure hope you all made friends with each other while figuring out how to access the academy, else this will be a grueling and painful experience for you. Should you choose you can't handle that, you shall be expelled and never allowed to return." Edna taps her cane on the ground twice before speaking again "Well, it's late. Let's get you all situated for the evening, and we'll start your orientation in the morning." She leads you all away from the statues and towards a part of the grounds with several towers of varying sizes. She mutters a few arcane words to herself as a three story tower rises from the ground in an empty spot. "This will be your living quarters while you're studying here." She gestures you all to go inside "get some rest, the hallmaster will send for you come morning."
The interior of the tower is rather bare. The ground floor is a single open room concept. There are a few shelves, with books on them, a small kitchen area, and a large central table. The table has a single potted green leaf plant on the edge nearest the door you enter. The next floor has 3 bedrooms and a bathroom, the final floor has 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. The bedrooms, like the ground floor, are rather bare. All identical in shape and size, the bedrooms have a simple bed with linen sheets, a shelf with a single book on it, a simple wooden chair, and a nightstand with a small potted lavender flower.
(OOC: We'll wait for Vera's dexterity saving throw to see if she truly lands on her feet or not. (DC: 10) Vera, you have the option to describe how you walk through the portal, if you'd like. There is a lot of information in this post. Take your time, read it, react to as much or as little of it as you wish to. At the bare minimum, make a post claiming a room and heading to bed. We will go through as many posts as necessary to get from when you arrive to going to sleep for the first time in your new living quarters. We won't proceed with day 2, however, until everyone has made a post explicitly saying they have chosen a room and gone to sleep. Welcome to The Thearrothen Academy! You're now Initiates!)
Upon leaving the portal and landing gracefully on her feet, Mythe immediately starts to look around, taking in her surroundings. She marvels at the giant marble statues, running her eyes along their ornate details, before her eyes stray to the grand buildings beyond. Finally, after all these years of studying, charming, manipulating - clawing her way to the very top - she, Mytheaian Kaethius, had made it to The Thearrothen Academy. Her ancestors would be so prou- No. They would not be proud. Becoming an initiate of the academy was expected, just another stepping stone on the path to greatness. She must not celebrate yet.
The Elf’s thoughts are interrupted by the arrival of the towermaster, allowing her a brief moment to regain composure, smoothing a stray curl back into perfect platinum locks. As the elderly woman talks, Mythe briefly flicks through the brochure. None of this information is new to her - relatives had explained this schooling system many times before. Still, It was good to confirm her knowledge was correct.
After curtsying and politely thanking Silentstep for her introduction, she turns to her companions, appraising each of their demeanours. “Well. I guess we are stuck with each other.” The words are haughty, but an inkling of relief seems to flit across her face. “It has been a long day. I will retire now.” With a swish of silken skirts, the noble departs.
Mythe chooses one of the two rooms on the highest floor, neatly arranging her items in a systematic, practical order. She takes note of the book on her shelves, but decides to leave it for the next day, instead changing out of her traveling clothes and collapsing into simple linen sheets - a harsh contrast to the velvety luxury of her bed back home. Despite the change, she manages to drift to sleep fairly quickly, determined to be ready and refreshed for the coming day.
Flustered by his... not as graceful entrance to the portal, he quickly stands up and brushes off the scuffs on his hands and knees. Looking up at the statue in front of him, he exclaims, "Oh, what a gorgeous statue! The craftsmanship is exquisite." I'm assuming this is the academy.. I wonder how big of a library they have here... His thoughts drift around his head absentmindedly. As the towermaster approaches, he snaps to attention.
He makes sure that Edna Silverstep knows he understands he rules by immediately pinning his brooch onto his breast, and bids her adieu. Walking into the first floor of the tower, his eyes are immediately drawn to the shelves with books on them. He rushes over, tracing the spines of the books as he reads the titles. Slowly, they begin changing shape. Their curly brown hair turns into straight, waist-length red hair, and their skin lightens to a warm fawn color, with a tinge of pink on her cheeks, as if she's always blushing. The streak of stark white in her hair remains. Her eyes, now a deep, earthy emerald, continue to look over the titles and she picks one off the shelf. Her ears are no longer brought to a sharp tip, and she shrinks down to 5'4", and she takes the form of a young human woman. She notices herself changing, and makes a small remark under her breath, "Trained behaviors, my ass," and chuckles a little at this inside joke as she makes her way up the stairs to the top floor. She sets down her bags, unpins her brooch, changes into more comfortable clothes, and climbs into bed. After getting comfortable, she starts reading the book she picked out before. After a while, she's fast asleep, resting her weary bones.

She sets down her bags, unpins her brooch, changes into more comfortable clothes, and climbs into bed. After getting comfortable, she starts reading the book she picked out before. After a while, she's fast asleep, resting her weary bones.
