Now it changed the initial roll: I got a 3 on 1d10, then when I posted to edit, it added another 1d10 I think.
Sparhawk pulls out a book with a strangely textured cover. It doesn’t have a title or any written words on the cover. As he tries to turn the book over to open it, he finds he is unable to release his grip as the book comes alive in his hands and makes a bite attack against him.
Attack: 9 Damage: Unable to parse dice roll. acid dmg
Bjorn stops with his lockpicks inches away from the door, and stares at the book Vars is holding. "Wait."
He takes a step back and stands up straight, a look of utter disbelief on his face.
"His name is Abernathy Soft-bottom?"
Vars grins, having thought the same thing upon picking up the volume.
"Apparently, and Mr. Softbotham seems a little too interested in Thay and litches for my liking. I'm starting to think he wasn't as much of a good guy as Irongrass made him out to be."
Frangipani summons a dagger of ice, the chill around it creating a bit of mist as it clashes with the warmer air. She sends it hurling into one of mimics as it flies from the shelf looking to feed. The icy shard of death hits home and explodes in a torrent of sharp ice bits, killing the mimic and its nearby brother. The blast also strikes Sparhawk, the magical ice finding its way in between his armor. (Sparhawk roll dex save)
The remain two faux books fly towards Frangipani looking for revenge. A horrible shrieking sound erupts from the cabinet with the liquor bottles as it springs to life in rage. Apparently, this is the momma mimic (initiative 15) and she is not happy.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Vars whips out his short swords as the mimics fly towards Frangipani. He lashes out, attempting to hit one (or both of them if that’s allowed. He’s got two weapon fighting, so I would think he’d hit one with each sword.) before they can reach her.
In a flash, Vars whips out his short swords and splits the book shaped mimics in two at the same time.
the liquor cabinet mimic, enraged by the death of its offspring, lashes out at Frangipani and Vars with pseudo pods that spring from the fake liquor bottles
(Haven't played in a long time, so if my AC is 19, an attack has to get a 19 or 20 to get through?)
Also, assuming I hit the bookcase, can I use Devine Smite (and do I declare that after hitting or prior to my roll?)
Yes the attack has to get over 19 with bonuses. Divine smite you can add after you hit. Also describe your attack a little. What you hit with type of swing etc..keep it with a little flavor

Yep, exactly. But that's a total result, including modifiers, so it could be higher than 20.

Totally. I would probably declare it when attacking, just to minimize the functional differences between playing this way and playing live, but idk where Dwar falls on this. Either way, it only goes off on a hit -- a miss can't waste your spell slot.
Sparhawks strike lands solidly against the cabinet corner and digs in, as it lands a flash of divine light ensconced the wound burning into the strange mimic flesh

Sparhawk tried to dodge the ice shards (dex roll? 9 IF I'm doing this save right.
Fearing for his friends lives, calling on the power of his goddess, Sparhawk flourishes his blade and in a hefty downward cleave, attempts to shatter the large creature in half (Divine Cleave): Original damage if hit: 9 +2d8 (10

As soon as the book attacks, three more books come alive from the shelves. And will attack ( in initiative order rolled in game log)
21- Frangipani
19- Vars
14- Sparhawk
10- Baby mimics
10- Sorsha
7- Eberk
5- Bjorn
[Ha! I bet that book on mimics would've had something to say on this.]
Luckily Sparhawks strength and armor have enabled him to avoid the acidic bite of this living tome
(and this is why I avoid libraries)
(lol, I missed that first attack. I guess Vars is just totally oblivious... Though he did do pretty well in initiative.)
( yes..it was a subtle clue..)
Frangipani summoned the chill of the depths around her hand and threw it at the nearest creature.
Ice Knife: Attack: 14 Damage: 5
The target and each creature within 5 feet of it must succeed on a Dexterity DC 12 saving throw or take 6 cold damage.

Sword 1: Attack: 14 Damage: 7
Sword 2: Attack: 14 Damage: 6
In a flash, Vars whips out his short swords and splits the book shaped mimics in two at the same time.
the liquor cabinet mimic, enraged by the death of its offspring, lashes out at Frangipani and Vars with pseudo pods that spring from the fake liquor bottles
frangi- Attack: 15 Damage: 10
Vars- Attack: 11 Damage: 7
Missing those attacks it will move to bite Sparhawk , the cabinet door open wide revealing its ghastly teeth
Attack: 15 Damage: 4 + acid dmg 1
( I guess the mimic is just too distraught over the death of her babies…lol)
(Did I get hit or did my AC save me?) Sparhawk attacks the hungry bookcase (Already rolled attack and damage)
Attack: 17, Damage 9 (unless DM wants me to reroll my roll from when i was asleep)
(Haven't played in a long time, so if my AC is 19, an attack has to get a 19 or 20 to get through?)

The mimic misses you, but you need to make a dc 12 safe throw to avoid the ice shards. Your roll is good to use.
the dmg only applies if the hit succeeds
