None of the goblins or hobgoblins seem to notice you as they go about their business. The flag atop the command tent has on it the face of Maglubiyet, the conquering god of all goblinoids.
(OOC - Sorry, at work and trying to prep a long response. I'm going with Prims grasp of tactics are what I'd expect she'd have picked up from military family and 4 levels experience for common sense tactics, cause she's being asked, and she's talkative and charismatic. Hope it doesn't seem meta, but if a fighter type wants to take over tactics, go ahead)
Prim scootches behind bushes to keep to cover, and if anyone isn't, she motions for them to do the same (I expect everyone is doing the same, so...)
Prim holds a hand cupped to her ear as the sign for "listen", and beckons everyone close enough to hear her whisper.
"We're here for the orb, if we kill goblins, great, but we don't want to be overwhelmed. Lets hold off on attack until we establish what we're up against."
(Bruce, since we left in the morning, is it about noon by now?)
Seeing Wicker is nervous, she says "Wicker, how about you count the goblinoids? Doesn't have to be exact, we just need an idea of how badly we're outnumbered and if there are places less occupied" to give Wicker something to do.
"Deragor and Soot, look for paths and hiding places from our vantage point here. We want ways to sneak into the camp and avoid the patrols if they have a pattern you can make out"
"Skorli, Bolin and Vlar. Our main target will be the main tent, likely filled with clerics of their God. Everyone who''s fought goblins before, what do you think of these tactics?
Do you think they could be caught by surprise a second time by a loud fiery diversion from the fighters, or would at least the leaders start looking for the sneaky people?
Do you think if Vlar pretends to have captured us, they'd buy it long enough to make it into camp?
And If I can get within a thousand feet of the big tent I can see if locate object can find the orb."
I like the infiltration with vlar I'm not very sneaky so if we go in and the range fighters hit them from a distance vlar audun and I can smack them at close range with skroli rushing in right after for support
Would we know if goblins would be dumb enough to take us as a bounty if vlar brought us up even though he's not apart of their regiment
Audun seems slightly annoyed he wasn’t included in the plan. He steps into the middle of the group behind the bushes and speaks quietly and softly. “I’ve dealt with goblins before. I think this plan could be better. Goblins can run pretty fast so depending on the amount of goblins per patrol, they could just run and get more. It only takes one goblin to spot us and they’d be all over us. However, goblins are cowardly creatures. If we can grab one it’ll cry for help, which could draw a large number of them from the main tent. After that a group could go into the tent, slaughter any clerics, and snatch the orb. It’s not a perfect plan, but it requires less luck.” He looks around for any nods of approval. “However if anyone has a better plan, I’m all ears.” He turns to Prim. “If we go with your plan I could join Vlar, I speak goblin.” Audun looks at the bugbear. “Besides, the more blades the better.” Peaking through the bushes at the camp, noting how damaged it is. “Or we could just launch a head on attack? You all seem like great warriors.”
“I can cover our tracks and mask us from detection with magic.” - he finally spoke after thinking for a while - “Although it would not be advisable to use it with everyone, because the range of the spell is not very large, it can work with 2 or 3 people, including me. I can definitely sneak out and check hideouts and patrols by myself or as mentioned, with Soot. Whether we decide on the infiltration solution or something else, if a 'sneak team' isalready ready, hiding in the shadows, it can surprise them.”
"And what exactly makes you think I want to play nice with goblins..." Vlar says with a narrrowing of his eyes. "No, I am for the full-out attack, not skulking around and play-acting." He grimaces as you all lay out your plans. "Fine, if that is what is wanted, then do as you will, but do not expect me to be good at pretending to be part of their crew. I am built for battle, not pretend-play."
(OOC: Vlar will do as requested here, though he doesn't like it. He is likely very bad at deception and performance, so I would not expect him to be able to fool anyone for long.)
"Believe me when I say" - Derogar turned to the Bugbear - "I want to be done with all the little whiners just as much as you, but if we're going to do it, let's do it smart. Every monster in this camp is guilty, let them all be punished by death."
As Deragor spoke, full of anger, those who were observant enough could see something move under his clothes. That thing started to move upwards. Towards the end of his speech, half of his face was already covered by a Black Mass-like thing, apparently Deragor was not bothered. After finishing what he had to say, he took a deep breath, closed his eyes, and the Black Mass retreated under his clothes.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Wicker nods, remaining obscured in the undergrowth. "That I can do, miss Prim!" She makes her way around the perimeter of the encampment, making her best estimation on the goblins' numbers.
Stealth (if she can remain in the undergrowth, Wicker gains advantage -> use the higher roll. Otherwise, just use the first roll): 17 , 23
Wicker counts about 84 goblins and 17 hobgoblins, a full century plus a centurion, split up into four platoons. One group is filling the mass graves in the northeast part of the camp. Another is having lunch in the southeast part. A third scours through the burnt out remains of the southwest quadrant while the centurion is training with the rest in the northwest area. Paths to the command tent have been cleared in each of the cardinal directions (north, south, east and west) which also separate the graves, eating area, training area, and burnt area.
(OOC Sorry Ardun, I forgot to refer to the character list)
"So maybe the last group we want to notice us is the training group, but don't worry, they'll come to the fight.
Which has the most hiding places, or inattentive troops?
Does the lunch crowd seem to focus only on their food.
Are the grave diggers too busy to notice us?
Are there enough tents or remains to hide behind in the lunch or grave sections?
Are we lucky enough they have a stockpile of oil for burning? All you have to do is throw it at them and I can ignite it.
So if Deragor, Soot and one other sneak in, the hardcore fighters can charge in maybe 10 minutes after we go in. Maybe torching tents as they go to make a distraction.
I could cast a couple of Sleep spells to soften the opposition, when you're in range to attack.
Does anyone else have sneaking ability? Maybe wildshape into an animal from around here?
Oh, and a reminder. I can drain life from any gobs you can fit into a 10 ft circle, and heal one of you with some of that life force. Any objections?
What do you all think of this plan?"
(Bruce, how close does Prim have to get to Locate object on the camp?)
“We must definitely avoid the main roads. And if we want the training team to be the last to notice us, it would be advisable if we started from the opposite direction, from the southeast. So we spoil their lunch for the little brats.” - he said with a big grin on his face. Deragor takes a closer look at the southeast part of the camp.
(Are there patrolling teams there or in other parts of the camp?
How do goblins eat? I mean, are there chairs and tables that can be used as a cover later?
Are there any other hiding places? Trees, bushes, tent remains, dirt mounds, anything.)
Tents and bushes can provide cover. No chairs or tables can be seen other than the serving table near the campfire hearth over which a large pot is cooking. A fat hobgoblin spoons out the contents into the bowls which the goblins hold out. The goblins then go to find a comfortable spot to sit and enjoy their gruel/stew. Some have spoons, but most use their hands to eat.
Deragor and Soot, give me a stealth check to see if you can avoid being seen as you make your way past the goblins.

Yes, it is around the middle of the day. A few of the goblins have begun to gather for the midday meal.

Soot is all for a sneak attack get to the tent wait for the others to make there move distracting the others and go in for the orbs

(Bruce, how close does Prim have to get to Locate object on the camp?)
Sounds good to me what signal should we be looking for before we jump in and raise all hell
Range of Locate Object is 1000 feet; so, you should be able to locate something anywhere in the camp.
“We must definitely avoid the main roads. And if we want the training team to be the last to notice us, it would be advisable if we started from the opposite direction, from the southeast. Soot grins “give me as many goblin souls as possible ms.” With that he’s going to prepare for the stealth mission. (Investigation for cover?)
Tents and bushes can provide cover. No chairs or tables can be seen other than the serving table near the campfire hearth over which a large pot is cooking. Before the stealth team leaves, Prim says "Let me cast "Locare Object" first."
And she casts the spell thinking of the orb they were shown, and thinking "Spell focus for teleport or gate" as the type of object.
Prim senses that several such objects are located in the command tent.
