Personality: Mirthless yet caring, growing up in the underdark has hardened his acceptance of friendship, but once others prove themselves to be genuine, he’ll do everything within his power to aid them. Haerin enjoys a good joke although his expression may not show it, and will rarely submit one of his own.
Backstory: Growing up amongst his clan, Haerin’s mother treated him with an icy coldness that she did give the rest of the family. His paternal bloodline a mystery to all but his mother, she and the family nonetheless ostracized and bullied him at every opportunity and caused him to find a means to survive in the shadows. It was after one particularly bad fight with a family member, that he crawled, severely injured, into a dark corner, and heard the whisper of a woman. Shar had spoken to him, healed him, and helped him to not only navigate the shadows, but to understand the beauty of the void, and the peace found in the darkness.
Guided to a hidden cult temple, he studied and persevered under the tutelage of the clerics and their protectors, soon using his physical benefits and passion to become a paladin himself; now Haerin seeks to teach others of the beauty of the void, and let them enjoy their small amusements until they realize the ultimate futility of their actions. He has no patience for those who would expedite the untimely ends of others for their own benefit.

There is additional backstory for the DM that is better left unwritten here if Haerin is selected.
(The premise sounds like a lot of fun, so hopefully I'm not too late to throw my hat in the ring).
Character Portrait:
Name: Sophia (aka Fifi) Race: Satyr Class: Bard (planning Lore Bard) Background: Custom (equipment from Prismari Student) Personality: Fifi is a happy-go-lucky satyr. If she isn’t singing or playing an instrument, then at the very least she is humming. Her bright and positive attitude tends to cause others to view her as naive, inexperienced or flat out dumb. However, despite her spontaneity and whimsical attitude, Fifi is quite the intellectual. She possesses a level of intuition and historical knowledge, people tend not to expect from her kind.
Backstory: As a young child, Fifi loved listening to her mother sing. She loved that music could make others feel certain emotions, simply by hearing its tune. Fifi was also enraptured by the variety of tales and epics many tavern bards would sing about. This love for music and fantastical storytelling drove Fifi to become a bard of her own.
She picked up many different instruments quite easily and practiced her own singing daily. She performed in many taverns and inns, entertaining the crowd with songs of conflict, songs of love, songs of victory. All of these wonderful songs, but none of them were her own. Though she was a talented performer, Fifi wanted a song of her own making.
Fifi’s first thought was to do research. Surely there was something of great import that she could write songs about. Thus, Fifi became a student at a university. It was here that Fifi discovered her second love: the finding and recording of knowledge. Fifi learned much about the world’s history. Of heroes of old and the many trials and tribulations they went through. She wrote many songs, retelling important events from history. And for a while, this was enough.
However, over time Fifi began to feel stuck. There was something missing and she didn’t know what. This feeling manifested itself as an artist block, and Fifi the bard took an indefinite hiatus. However, once word got around of a canyon suddenly appearing, Fifi knew exactly what she needed to do. The canyon was bound to be full of lands undiscovered and creatures unrecorded. Fifi was going to be the one to record the great findings of this canyon, and she was going to create a song like no other based upon her own experience as she trekked her way to the bottom of the canyon.
Many apply, but few are chosen. This is the price of an easy-to-manage campaign, as I hope you all understand. I have sent out Letters of Acceptance to six adventurers, and am waiting for them to claim their places in the expedition. By tomorrow, if any have not accepted their invitations, I will instead send invitations to my next choices.
To people just coming across this post, feel free to submit a character, but know that there is no guarantee that I will look over your submission.
