"Garagas, you are now in charge of this here vessel." Fincher checks an imaginary watch on his wrist. "You have 10 minutes until the battle begins. The other two teams are positioned somewhere around Mars, so you are going to have to locate them as well a engage in battle. Do as you wish, but for the most part we will be overriding you if you kill your own teammates or send them on suicide missions." Fincher now leaves, and only all the lancers and the pilots remain.
Lazaren basically just stands there, waiting for Garagas to say something.

I want you to know. You are going to lose. You are going to lose badly. You’re going to lose badly and it’s going to be awesome.
[[OOC: How much would we know about the capabilities of these ships? How far away can they sense things? What's the range for the nukes? Are they easily maneuvered? Is combat similar to broadsides in the Age of Sail? Or is this more akin to aircraft carriers and the Battle of the Coral Sea where neither fleet actually saw each other?]]

Is combat similar to broadsides in the Age of Sail? Or is this more akin to aircraft carriers and the Battle of the Coral Sea where neither fleet actually saw each other?]]
[[OOC: First: Manoeuvring. Manoeuvring won't be a problem until you reach combat. All ships are orbiting Mars in a clockwise direction, it takes a lot of energy for these ships to change direction or stay in one place. All ships start of at 100% power and 100% integrity. At first you won't know how much each order will cost the ships energy supply, but over time you will remember what costs what. (You won't actually have to remember, your characters will, so they will just have to make History checks and then I will tell you.) The only thing you will really have to think about is speed. The slowest speed you can orbit at without activating reverse thrusters is 1% speed, which is basically just the speed you orbit at with no intervention. If you want to catch up with ships in front of you, you can increase speed up to anywhere between 2 and 100%, (100% will cost a lot of energy), or just cruse at 1% and wait for the enemy fleets to catch up with you. Going slowly also allows you to gain more energy from solar power. (As long as you are above the day side of mars.)
Next: Radar. The ships can sense objects (Like asteroids) at up to 1000 miles, and electrical elements (like enemy ships) at up to 2000 miles. Note that this radar might no work scanning through large objects, like big rocks or Mars itself.
Next: Nukes. Nukes have a range of 500 miles, as long as they have a target. But there is one problem with long range attacks: Flank cannons. Every ship has two sets of flank: Short range and long range. If you fire long range nukes, 99.99% of the time they will get taken out by precise long range flank weapons. If you fire from short distance (50 miles or shorter) The long range flank is ineffective, and you only have to get past the short range.
Last but not least: Combat. I will describe this in more detail when your characters get more experience with it, but it will involve firing nukes with a slim chance of getting past flank, and lots and lots of boarding parties.
Hope that helps :)]]

I want you to know. You are going to lose. You are going to lose badly. You’re going to lose badly and it’s going to be awesome.
[[OOC: Having a bad time thinking of this with in-character words but here's what I'm thinking
1: If the sensors can't go through things like moons, then hiding the fleet behind the moon of Phobos (Deimos seems too small) could provide a useful shield from enemy sensors while locating their fleet. Probably have 9 ships shielded by the moon while the smallest ship of the fleet does scanning and sends communication. (That hopefully will lure the enemy fleet into thinking they caught a lone ship to be in for a surprise.
2: With boarding parties being the most necessary route of dominance, it would make sense to try driving enemy vessels away from the center of their fleet and using nuclear bombardment to create a protective line while boarding parties do their work. (Kind of like suppressive fire in a sense I suppose.)
3: Those leading the boarding parties have an opportunity for glory. Garagas being in charge of the vessel would have to stay in the command room. So people like Lazaren and Roque are prime choices to have leading the parties due to reasonable ties. Antonia, though she wanted leadership, is someone that Garagas is making inroads with and would be a fine choice for potential relief party leadership. Cassius is a dead-last choice for leading parties and should be held in reserve.]]
[[OOC: putting the OOC-text into in-character stuff]]
Garagas turns to the pilots, "I want this fleet to be set a course toward Phobos. We will use it as a shield from the enemy's sensors. For the purpose of finding their fleet I want the weakest ship of our fleet to have a slight lead of 1,000 miles. It is to be engaged in detecting the enemy fleet and relay the information back here."
[[OOC: figuring 1,000 miles is enough for it give a lead and for the main fleet to not be detected if it is while having it close enough to the main fleet for support. Guessing that's close enough for the speed of the ships to give at least some time to plan prior to engagement once detection has been had.]]
He then turns towards the lancers, "When we find the enemy the plan is to attempt the division of their fleet. Once we have separated a ship from their fleet we will form a perimeter around it to protect a boarding party. Lazaren and Roque, I want you two to select lancers and soldier to form two boarding parties. You will be the first ones into the breech. Antonia and Tacticus, I want you to form a reserve boarding party that will respond to the developments of battle after Lazaren and Roque's parties have engaged in combat." He turns to Victra, "I want you to take Cassius and form our defense group in the event this ship is boarded."
"Are there any questions?" he asks.
[[OOC: Remembered to put Tacticus and Victra in.]]
[[OOC: I love the way you are doing this Vitus. Couldn't have thought of a better plan myself.]]
[[First off, the pilots will respond to your order]]
A lady who has dark brown skin and long black hair responds. She's wearing high-tech looking gear and seems to be connected to the ship in some way, seeing as she can make stuff happen without saying or touching anything. "Sir yes sir. Thrusters burning at 50% thrust. Ship number 4, nicknamed Phobos's gift, has been deployed and is now heading for a distance of 1,000 miles to begin search for enemy fleets. We will reach Phobos in approximately 5 hours and 49 minutes."
[[Now for everyone else.]]
Roque nods, seemingly happy with his position.
Antonia and Tacticus seem slightly displeased, giving you sutle scornful looks, but knowing better then trying to oppose you. "You better need us. I'm not going to sit around whilst Roque and Lazaren have all the fun."
Cassius looks really displeased, but seems to have expected you would do this. Victra also seems offended, but is handling it slightly better then Cassius. "Yes captain, me and Cassius will be ready as protection, until we earn a promotion."

Most of the other Lancers seem nervous - or even scared - about what is to come. You do find two that seem in good shape though, to fight and to lead. One is a sly looking girl, only slightly shorter than you, but she seems to have a thing for the short pulse spear and scorcher she has in her hands. The other is a Massive boy who stands at almost 9ft. One is a sly looking girl, only slightly shorter than you, but she seems to have a thing for the short pulse spear and scorcher she has in her hands. The other is a Massive boy who stands at almost 9ft. He looks as though he could be an absolute savage in battle, with the biggest muscles you have ever seen, but he's laughing at the other girls joke and seems rather jolly.

Victra walks over to Garagas, looking him in the eyes, which she's perfectly able to do being the same height as him. "Garagas au Gathakanathi. If you would let me, I would like myself, Victra au Julii, to be promoted so I can fight with my friend Tacticus au Rath and Antonia au Julli."

Lazaren approaches them, and puts on a friendly smile. "Hey, you two. What are your names?"

The big one [[Yes, I have nothing else to call him apart from that]] turns round to look at you. "Oh, why hello there little one!" He bellows in a booming voice as he puts out a hand. "The name is Pax au Telamantas. What might I call you?"

[[totally good :) ]]
"I'm Lazaren." He looks up into his face. "I'm trying to assemble a boarding party, Pax, and you seemed like the kind of person to be useful in that situation."

"A boarding party you say? Well, I'm not much of a talker, so put me down for boarding and smashing some enemy ships."

"Thank you, I appreciate your willingness to help."
He turns to the sly looking girl. "What about you? Interested in joining?"
