Prelude: In the world of Niersala, agents of the Eternal Coven, the human Joe Smith and the brown akren (aarokocra) Jak Robin, discover the Goblinoid Army amassing in the hills of eastern Frelia. Jak Robin is killed by some goblinoid scouts.
Part 1: Rhi, another brown akren, Dire the goliath, and Haldir the tabaxi from the Society of Kh’tai Wood accompany Joe Smith to Daruinjak to spy out the Goblinoid Army camp. The goblinoids begin to move and lay siege to Daruinjak before moving on to Freeport.
Part 2: Back in Freeport, Rhi and Dire join a group of adventurers/mercenaries who plan to attack and defeat the Goblinoid Army before they begin their siege of Freeport. They include the soldier of the Frelian Defense Forces (FDF) Leokoris, Primrose Perianth of the New Burgundy Perianths, the dwarf cleric Skorli Bonebreak, and the gnome sorceress Misha Hairknot. The group succeeds in causing chaos within the camp of the Goblinoid Army and, with the help of three barghests from Gehenna, manage to defeat the hobgoblin warlord and his generals.
Part 3: Primrose Perianth and Skorli Bonebreak join a band of misfits tasked by the FDF and the Eternal Coven to find at least one Goblin Orb and return it to Freeport. The group is overwhelmed by a hobgoblin centurion and his troops. The dwarf rogue Soot Cravenclaw is killed after he surrenders. The dwarf barbarian Bolin Brickbreaker and the wood elf ranger Deragor are captured and taken prisoner. Primrose manages to destroy one of four Goblin Orbs found in the camp as Audun Sandtoes, a human mercenary, escapes. Vlar the bugbear returns to Freeport with the unconscious body of Primrose Perianth.
Welcome to Freeport, travelers (or toreni, as the Liroseni call you adventurous folk). As you make your way through the city, either from the port area or through one of the gates leading into the town, you notice a mix of people: elves, dwarves, and humans mingle freely in the streets. You know that this is the largest port in all Niersala, a likely place to find adventure. Your first stop should be at the Frelian Defense Forces' (FDF's) station nearby. Posted there you will notice a sign warning of goblin activity in the hills north and east of the town. The notice goes on to say anyone interested in helping to defend Freeport should contact Joe Smith, an agent of the Eternal Elemental Coven currently residing at the Swan Inn near the ports of the East Gate District.

At the Swan Inn, Taxidea and Orion are led to a back table where Joe Smith is waiting. He is a large, muscular man wearing what look like clean blue hospital scrubs with white trim around the collar and sleeves. On his left chest is pinned the holy symbol of the Elemental Coven, a golden circle around a silver cross which separates the circle into four equal quadrants. Each quadrant contains a different colored gemstone representing each of the four elements: a green emerald for ground, a red ruby for fire, a blue sapphire for water, and a white diamond for air. A pin looking like a small white cloud with a lightning bolt coming out of it is on his right chest.
"Hello," the man greets you as he stands and offers a hand to you. "I am Joe Smith. You must be here about the goblins. Please, have a seat, enjoy some wine," he gestures to a large carafe of red liquid, "or water if you prefer." He picks up a glass pitcher and pours himself some water then sits.
You notice several place settings at the table other than the one at which Joe Smith sits. At each setting is a small plate with a bit of bread on it. Beside each plate is a small butter knife, and in the center of the table between the carafe and pitcher is a large pad of butter. Each setting has a different kind of bread at it: white sliced loaf bread, slices of marbled rye, dark soft bread, pita bread, a small dinner roll, and a bagel covered in all sorts of seeds.
"Those Goblins ain't gonna know what hit em'. The name's Taxidea Taxus. My friends call me Badger, so you can call me Taxidea for now."
Taxidea, naturally suspicious of everyone, pours a glass of water from the pitcher Joe used, and sits down at one of the settings with the soft dark bread.
