Greeting Fellow D&D enthusiasts! Let me be upfront first then I will get into my introduction. 1. Looking for Players to play the DL Modules staring with Dragons of Despair. This will be a 5E game with some adjustments such as no Clerics, Kenders are the Halfling race, Wizard must be a part of the Order with the Robes. 2. I am looking for players who want to experience Krynn or revisit it. 3. I am also looking for new friends to play D&D with. About me. I am a mid 40 something guy been playing since 1E etc. I have DM for most of that time. I am super chill about the posting ideally once a day minus the weekend is what I am looking for. My commitment to you as a player is to have fun and be fair. Character Creation 1. Standard Array and human variant allowed. 2. No Dragonborn,Drow,Tielfiings and Volo races. If you want to roll a kender (Halfling) I will send you the race traits. 3. Class restriction: No Clerics at 1st level. Warlocks must have a good backstory. Paladins will be treated as Knights of Solmania. 5. Staring equipment plus 15 gp. Anything else just DM me.
Sorcerers are open in the DL setting right?, also what would your opinion be on a player trying out the mystic class not sure what the status of psionics is in DL been like a decade since I'v read one of the books.
EDIT: Also if i remember correctly DL is way more "sword and sorcery" genre relative to FR, and if thats the case I have a Lycanthrope fighter character Id like to roll in a slightly darker setting, but that would involve a bit of home brew at your discretion of course.
Filtch Red-whisker | N/G | Nim | 3rd lv Fighter | Brute | "We fight for the youth, we fight at all cost. For as long as we fight, we have not truly lost"
Zanthin Abrax | N/G | Human | 6th lv Wizard | Lore master | "I'd tell you how astronomically dull you truly are, but I'd need to visit the far realm just to find the words to do so."
I have never played Dragonlance, or read the settings, but I'd love to learn. I have a Human Knight Barbarian I have been itching to play forever now if you'll have me.
ANYWHOO here is a character list, all of which can be adapted to fit the DL setting.
-Filtch-
N/G

Inquisitive Rouge, Old and senile to a degree hunting a nemesis who may or may-not exist .
-Orval Rabel'ger'bapple-
L/I (Lazy Impulsive)
Gnome
Sharp liped Great old one warlock. Spect for RP encounters rather then combat -Zanthin Abrax-
N/G
Human variant
Smart ass lore master wizard (evoker if no UA is allowed). -Vessel-
L/G
Warforged (if allowed)
pacifist Theomage (aberration if no UA) wizard. -Tieren Rotclaw-
C/N
Human (werewolf I know I'm pushing the limits on this one but might as well list it)
Champion Fighter
-Trako Venaralin-
N/G
Eladrin (elf if no UA)
Extremely untalented wizard trying his best and masquerading as a master wizard after accidentally porting himself half way across the continent when he stole his master's spell book.
-Rigby Blackbook-
N/G
Human
Necromancer wizard who wanted to be a bard when he grew up but was forced to undertake the family tradition of raising the dead, tries his best to mask his horde of undead as a traveling circus but isn't very good at the later part.

I'd be interested! I read most of the Dragonlance novels once upon a really long time ago, although I'd have to refresh my memory on the setting. I've played a little 5e, have been itching to play more, and should have no trouble keeping up with posting. I have no particular character in mind, so I'd be happy to see what we might need before I made a decision.
Silvvy I am really sticking to a more 1E restrictive basis. That’s why said no Warlocks etc. I am actually using the module line for this. I like the idea of lazy Gnome as PC just pick a different class.
// Lisianth that’s sounds good.
I have a friend from work who has picked a Silvemsti elf Ranger (high elf). The joy of this game for those you who don’t know Dragon Lance is the story behind the adventure. I look forward to seeing applicants. I will be looking for a party of 6 ideally but will work with 3 or 4 if that’s all I get.
If I was to play Orval, I'd only do so as a warlock, as the mix of warlock magic and G.O.O features is what makes him fun to play. I might be interested in rolling a sorcerer fresh for the setting, what sorcerous origins would you consider tender for DL I'm considering Chaos, Storm, or shadow.
If sorcerers are also off the table then Maybe a human varient Crossbow expert rouge, ranger, or fighter. might be fun to give a try.

Can you expand on why it is bigger than being a Knight in say the Forgotten Realms? Mostly the character concept was a noble, and mechanically I took the Knight Variant, who is a devout follower to a god of law/justice. He is different from your standard Barbarians as he is educated, charismatic, but still has a temper when opposed by the evils of the world. If there is a better way to fit this into the Dragonlance setting I am down.
Otherwise, if it's too far outside the setting, I can roll up something else more setting specific.
What rules are you following regarding magic and armor? I remember in the old AD&D, spells were not possible with armor, thus making things like fighter/mages redundant as you lost the appeal of the fighter side except for the weapon access and health boost.
I ask because I have wanted to try my hand at a dwarf or half-elf College of Valor Bard (i.e. skald), but what good is a battle-bard if they wind up being a suicidal-squishy?
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Characters:
Grishkar Darkmoor, Necromancer of Nerull the Despiser Kelvin Rabbitfoot, Diviner, con artist, always hunting for a good sale Bründir Halfshield, Valor Bard, three-time Sheercleft Drinking Competition Champion, Hometown hero
volzdennis here...I just finished putting together my High Elf Ranger...I've updated a few things on it. I'll update you when I see you. Sounds like we're about to be cooking w/Crisco!

I am keeping the rules for casting based on 5E. The other types of Magic are a bit more strict.
After seeing multiple post let clarify a few things. The charm of this setting is that classes are bit more defined by story for examples in the 1E modules wizards belong to the Conclave Wizards there are three orders based on alignment. The three gods of magic are represented by the three moons which has an effect on magic of the wizard using the magic. The Knights of Soliminaare famed warriors who follow formalized code. They represent the paladin like powers without being linked to the gods. In the beginning of this adventure there was an event known as the cataclysm this is when gods went silent so divine left. The story address this this why I am not allowing sorcerers, warlocks, cleric right at fron etc. Rangers, Fighters, Rogues, wizards, paladins (which is what I am using for the Knights class). Druids and Bards I will only one or the other not both. If the design constraints are not your liking then this may not be for you.
Here is another piece to help with role play
Your character is returning to the town of Solace to reunite with some friends after a 3 year gap. What where you doing? What are relationships to the other characters?
Especially given the lack of Clerics, does this concept sound acceptable:
Human Variant w/Feat Option Class Monk* Feat: Healer (allows pretty limited healing with expenditures of Healer's Kit usages)
Background would be a military healer/medic.
*Though class is Monk, I would not be playing him as the typical martial artist archetype. Instead he would just be a particularly agile person who has become exceptionally resourceful at defending himself when he finds himself in a fight without armor and (limited or no) weapons. (As one would when you run into quickly shifting battles in order to help a fallen comrade.) Picture someone who fights dirty/unconventionally vs spinning kicks and butterfly palms.
On careful reading, I think all of the more "mystical" aspects of the Monk abilities can be attributed to exceptional athleticism and in some cases the character's advanced knowledge of medicine and physiology allowing him to assess the most effective ways to strike. Ki points, instead of being the harnessing of inner energies, is more just a measure of his internal grit and fortitude, limiting the number of times he can utilize the more powerful abilities.
Progression (I assume we are starting at first) would be in "Way of the Open Hand" which is the least magical of the options.
If this sounds OK I can have character stats pretty quickly. (Probably going to generate this character this morning just for fun whether he makes this particular game or not.)

1. Ranger - Volzdennis
I can let you in with Human Barbian but being a Knight in Dragon Lance is a big thing.

Would lack of familiarity with the Dragon Lance setting be a significant hindrance?
Having played the early editions back in the 80's I certainly have no issues with limited character classes. I'm a fan of the basics.

I would be interested with this as well.
could roll a fighter/archer
or fighter/paladin(order of the rose)
Kurt Stoneseeker
Ragmin Graybeard
Interested as well, I dm you my character idea.

No in would not. If the character concept works.
