TheSteel Defender has a special ability called “Deflect Attack”;
Deflect Attack. The defender imposes disadvantage on the attack roll of one creature it can see that is within 5 feet of it, provided the attack roll is against a creature other than the defender.
“Advantage” means you roll two d20, and take the highest. “Disadvantage” means you roll two d20, and take the lowest. These type of rolls are used for example when a particular activity is adversely/beneficially altered by a physical effect or spell/skill/ability that changes this etc. So for example, attacking an invisible creature is at disadvantage… an invisible creature attacks at advantage. Attacking a prone creature is at advantage for attackers within 5’, and disadvantage for greater than 5’. Conditions can be looked up in the PHB.
Disad/Adv cancel each other out “once” by RAW, and some DM’s allow “additional cancelling out where it makes sense”. So for example, an invisible creature attacking another invisible creature is a wash, so “normal”.. But if the attacked invisible creature was also prone, under RAW it’s not then at advantage, unless the DM decides it makes sense to “bend the rules”. There is not always fixed/hard rules on when to use adv/disad, but it can help “set the tone” of an action, and make players seek ways to ”get advantage”, or ”remove disadvantage”, which is another fun angle of gameplay rather than just “hit the monster”.
/OOC Murial, if 14 meets are exceeds your AC, you take 9 damage.
ALL THE REST OF PARTY is up. Please take your Actions.
The attack misses. Murial rushed forward and attacks with her quaterraff and then spends 1 ki point for step of the wind and takes the disengage bonus action, and dash's out of the creatures reach

"The woods are fine, it using the material I hate." Chester says in response to Elegri. His hammer catches on fire again and makes the same motion like he is hitting something, casting fire bolt at the walking tree. Once the mote of fire is let loose, he snaps a finger commanding his steel dog, "Go for the hamstrings and bring that tree down."
Action: Casts fire bolt at the awakened tree, Attack: 14Damage: 8 fire. Movement: None Bonus Action: Commands the steel dog to attack the awakened tree, Attack: 17Damage: 3 force.

Anima realizing that there is probably more trouble on the way, decides to kick up the offensive.
Casting his left arms upwards towards the sky, and with his right hand gripping the Blackthorn stick at his waist, he calls out “Lunam Trabem”. A pale beam of light lances down from the sky over the tree monster, forming a 5 ft. radius cylinder 40 ft high. The pale silvery light starts to burn into the surface of the creature.
Anima then leans forward, his body stretching and lengthening, his limbs reaching down, his armour changing into thick black fur. A large panther like creature, 6 ft. tall at the shoulder now stands where Anima did.

Dagny, disappointed that she missed, focuses on the blight who evaded her. She points and swirls her right hand in the air. Her eyes flicker and, like a softball pitcher, swings her right arm underhanded to hurl a bolt of flame.
The living tree swings for Murial with a heavy branch, but K-9 imposes itself, knocking the tendril aside and causing it to miss her.
You all focus your aim on the tree, with twin bolts of flame, an arrow, a beam of moonlight and close up, K-9 facing off against it with rending claws. Murial smashes it with her staff, and then backs away out of its long reach. Despite the deadly barrage, the tree still stands, with scratches, bumps and blackened scorch marks to show for your attacks.
Looking down it sees a shiny dog like creature that has caused it pain… it doesn’t like pain.

ENCOUNTER 1, ROUND 3
With the tree still alive, it starts thrashing its branches and clashing them together. You hear more noise from around you in the deep forest and back along the path. The wind starts to pick up, howling and groaning out of it’s depths like a breathing animal. You have awakened the forest and it sounds hungry.
The beam of moonlight burns through the living tree’s bark with ghostly flames, doing 16 radiant damage (Half on CON (13) save ( 9 ) )
With Dangy’s bolt of fire causing massive damage to the tree, the burning moonlight finally finishes it off, and the tree collapses to the ground in a heap of burning embers.
Behind you the forest path suddenly grows darker, with large dark shapes and shadows moving in the gloom, as if the trees themselves are closing it off, stopping any retreat, pushing you forward, out of the forest and towards the rocky upward slope ahead.
ALL CHARACTERS TURN, Please let me know your actions.
Elegri looks as the forest path begins to close in on the party Elegri slings his bow over his shoulder switching to his battleaxe. "Ah shit... I guess we're chopping trees friends..." he chuckles nervously searching the area for any signs of magic or foul play from beyond the tree line. Perception: 21
You look around you and see no more immediate targets, but the sounds of the forest are increasing around you. Behind you the path is definitely “closing off” in a menacing way, the darkness and tree growth spreading towards you.
Elegri peers out of the path beyond the tree line, and he is pretty sure there is nothing threatening immediately beyond the opening, however with the contrast in light and the steep rocky hill beyond sloping upwards, you can see no more than 60 ft. beyond the opening.
“I don’t like the looks of this.” Dagny says as the forest closes in and pushes her out. She looks out towards the rocky slope ahead of her. “At least I can see better out here than in there.”
She ventures forward and looks at the party. “Keep going, I suppose?”
Anima looks behind him at the impending doom, then in-front at the sunlight. Hearing Dagney, Anima lets out a growl of consent, turns to face the opening, and starts to walk forward.
/OOC Moonbeam R3: Bonus Action ; Move beam 60’ to forest exit, ahead of party, so it might catch any invisible creatures in it’s AoE.
Chester whistles for his steel dog and runs to meet it halfway, he wraps an arm around the steel dog's neck and swings up onto its back. "Lets get out of the trees!" Chester shouts as he commands his mount to move heading for the clearing.

As you run towards the end of the path now only 30 ft. away, the darkness closes in more and more rapidly, the howl of the wind increasing in volume and ferocity, and the trees around you start to close off the path. As you approach the exit two more Twig Blights erupt from the ground, but the beam of moonlight placed there forces them back and your path is clear.
As you rush out of the forest, bright sunlight streams down from overhead, a contrast to the darkness behind you. Clear blue sky is overhead, and behind you the path disappears as thick forest growth fills it in, blocking off any retreat. Thankfully nothing appears to pursue you… yet.…
Blinking in the bright sunlight, ahead you see a narrow slope heading up the front of a steep mountain, and 60 ft. away you see a thick fog covering the ground, rapidly growing too thick to see through. The steep mountain hillside is rock with scrubby grass and heather, and it’s steep upward slope will be difficult to navigate, especially in the mist. A barely recognizable path leads upwards… it’s certainly trafficked, but by what ?

"I mean would it be safe to do so between the forest that wants to kill us and the creepy fog ahead of us?"Elegri looks towards the path and analyzes if there are any tracks that he can recognize. Survival: 18 (if it's a beast I'd have advantage on tracking it)
After inspecting the path Elegri casts goodberry and offers them up to the group. "If anyone needs any minor healing or we need sustenance for the day these will do the trick."
