Why are you at the mansion? - Did the Mistress invite you? Are you seeking treasure? Gelebor's reasons are two fold, he seeks knowledge, and through that knowledge he seeks to become more powerful. He has heard of the library of books that exist within the mansion and wishes to delve into the magical texts. His second reason would be the vision that he had through his divinations. He remembers seeing the mansion, its mistress Remilia Scarlet, he remembers seeing blood, the rest is a haze, but what he also remembers feeling compelled to go. (If you choose me perhaps we can speak about this vision more, I am trying to keep it vague right now, but would love more if you would be willing.)
Background - Sage
Backstory - Gelebor grew up knowing that his talents lied within magic from an early age, he was taught how to use the sword and bow like other elves but they never suited him. Magic was something that he could control, something he could manipulate into what he wanted it to be. His mother had been the mage in the family, he learned everything he knew from her, she had gifted him his first spellbook. His father, being a politician received gifts a lot from people, so when a box arrived with a necklace for Gelebor's mother no one thought about it twice. Upon touching it, the gem in the necklace glowed, his mother began to scream as she was pulled into the gem, once she was gone the gem fell to the ground and cracked. His father consulted mages from all over, but none could tell him what had happened, whether she was still alive on some far away plane or if the gem had killed her. Eventually his father gave up, but Gelebor has not. Over the years he has grown cynical of the world, mostly seeing it as a place of hardship, with little hope. But there is a glimmer of hope, that one day he will gain the knowledge he needs to not only discover what transpired with his mother but to also make sure that such a thing will never happen to him again.
Sweet. For the possible warlock, I’ve gone a rod+2 and a wand+2, on the idea that this is combat focused, and tried to build around that. Is there anything else important to know about how much fighting vs other things we might be doing, short rests vs long rests and that sort of thing?

Name - Belwin
Race - Hobgoblin
Class - Paladin 5 (Glory)/Bard 7 (Lore) == as an aside I do have an alternative build for him which takes Samurai Fighter levels instead of bard if this seems too metagame-esq
Why are you at the mansion? - Perhaps Belwin was invited by the mistress as he is mercenary of moderate renown in his own right, he seeks to collect tales of heroes and knights of ages long since forgotten to learn and take one more step into coming closer to the figures he idolized as a child. (Happy to workshop this to fit the narrative/dm vision)
Background - Mercenary Veteran - Former unit Captain and recruiter
Backstory
Originally from a clan of raiders who pillaged surrounding city states, his father was merciless to his foes, though kind and gentle to his kin. It was during these raids, that Belwin would acquire his first book of heroes containing tales of white knights saving, rather than destroying kingdoms; gaining love and affection rather than ruling with fear and contempt. As he grew up, he learned the ways of combat from his clan mates and was thrown into battles from a young age, but he also had a distinct talent for story telling and captivated his small audiences around their camp fires. Due to an unsettling turn of events, his clan was ambushed and his family broken. Upon the capture and execution of his father, the clan crumbled apart and Belwin moved on towards a life of a mercenary. His clan's destruction, though tragic, was a relief. You see, he had grown bitter about the constant raids and horrible crimes he bore witness and relinquished ownership of his clan name from that day forth.
Thus, he began to follow a different path, a mercenary still, but one who could both save his allies and gain renown, not as a villain but as a hero in hopes that he too can be the subject of fantastical tales of old. Belwin enlisted in a group called the Silvered Talons, a mercenary band with the simple goal of protecting the civilized realms from those who walk hidden in the shadows. His way with words, made him an adequate spokesperson for the cause, recruiting those eager to make a difference whilst still seeking fortunes and thrills in the process. He eventually rose to the rank of Captain of his own unit specializing in shock tactics and and front line protection....

Why are you at the mansion? - Rumor of evil lurking by the lake has the temple of Pelor on edge. In a vision given to one of the elder priests, they were told to send the sun in the hands of the quick, and the slow of thy trust. The temple deciphered this ti mean Brother Bulbrek, for he was quick with the sword but lacked confidence in his abilities as part of the temple. They gave him a Sun Blade (item #1) to assist him on his quest.
Background - Soldier
Backstory - Thulewyn was a soldier since the day he was old enough to no longer be called a beardling. He loved to serve, thrived on order and structure that the army provides.
But the life of a soldier ends one of two ways, the way honor demands is the one they all try so hard to avoid. So retiring to Thulewyn seemed to cowards way out. That was until his oldest comrade in arms died as Thulewyn tried to drag him to safety. He was the group healer, a priest of Pelor. With his dying breath, he gave his shield and asked him the same question he always had, "Are you helping someone or helping everyone one with your life?"
That death weighed he heavily on him. He decided he needed to serve something more then his generals, and looked to his last thing his old friend had gave him, that shield with Pelors bright sun intricately etched into it. So he found the decision to step down much scarier then any battlefield he had stepped on before.
And with that, he gathered his Mithral Plate (item #2) and shield he set off to join the temple, the same temple he always refused to visit with his closest friend.

My dear Zari. You seem to have high hope for others, but never yourself. Many people don't understand your talents. The talents you to save countless lives. The gifts that you have since you were a baby. Well, your 'gift' would be most appreciated to me, darling.
