The ominous silence that seems to hang around the entrance to the mountain is broken by your conversation and lighthearted music. The dark clouds above seem to grow dim in response to your attempt to bring levity to this forbidding place and the rumble of thunder grows louder.
Tharnak you approach the cavern with practised ease. Your dark vision gives you a view deep into the entrance. You see that the cavern continues for quite a way, the walls are slick with algae that gives of a soft luminescent glow and the uneven ground is alive with scurrying rats and spiders. A damp unwholesome smell wafts out toward you as you approach.
Congratulating yourself on your stealthy approach you wince as the rest of the party follow with what can only be described as a cacophony of broken twigs, stubbed toes, kicked rocks and was that a flute? Luckily no alarm seems to have been raised... yet!
Aedel you see no sign of traps or watchers in the shadows. It would appear that you have arrived thus far undetected.
The rain begins to fall in earnest as you all make your way across the clearing and gather at the cavern entrance.
OOC: Beside foot notes like this one, let's keep the OOC chat to the session Zero chat we have so we dont break immersion too much :)
A stern appearing dwarf has been standing to the side, observing all of the chatter, he seems to be chewing on his beard, or his inner cheek, or something. He pulls out a book and takes some notes, sketching the mountainside and the entrance. He stores it away and pulls out two torches, then feeling rather dramatic, casts create bonfire in a suitable spot, lighting the torches and handing them to those who wish them, then extinguishing the fire. He fiddles with his backpack some more, pulling out a battle axe that looks like it has been polished with oil and wiped down with a diaper, gleaming and clean. He brings it close to his face, like he is talking with it, having some personal time with the battle axe. If you listen close, you hear “We will find you, yes, we will. We will force him to give up his secrets.” After a moment, he puts the battle axe back in his pack and readies himself.
“Well, let’s get on with it. I don’t think this mountain will crumble down and yield its secrets to us all on its own. We’re going to have to pry it open and search its bowels, sifting through the wheat and the chaff and make it give itself up. I’m ready. You lot ready too? Let’s go.” Carlthuzad Bigtoe (who has asked you to call him Carl) motions toward the opening and readies himself to head inside.
“Welcome” Carl says, his hood is pulled up over his head, he’s back to chewing on his beard and considering the path ahead. “Who wants to lead our merry little band…”
Aedel looks around at the cave. "I've heard of caves like this. Something of this size, on Firetop Mountain, there may be something dangerous lurking here. Be careful." I scan the area with a nature check of 10 to make sure there is nothing dangerous living here.
"Well, have any of you heard the tale of the Mountainfolk Lizard? I heard a song about him once, it was quite entertaining. It mentions a cave like this. I think I can play it, although it may not be wise for stealth."
Torches now lit you all make your way into the cavern entrance. The firelight flickers ahead of you casting strange shadows on the damp rock walls. Behind you the drumming of the rain takes on a low hollow tone and for a moment you are all silhouetted in brilliant white light as lightning flashes outside. Then the deafening boom of thunder fills your ears and reverberates ahead of you into the cavern.
Aedel you spot the scurrying movement of large rats and the skittering of equally large spiders throughout the tunnel, but nothing truly dangerous, depending of course how you feel about rats and spiders in general...
Tharnak you move ahead of the torchlight trusting in your elven eyes to guide the way. Damp cobwebs drift in the air, entangling themselves with your hair and clothing. Little can be heard due to the rain and thunder without.
Eventually you come to a junction with passages leading off to the left and right.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Diana, pouting a bit as she didn't get a chance to pull out her own flute, clomps up to the intersection, pokes her head in and takes a look at the two branches.

Liarin: Against the Cult of the Reptile God Adewild: Shadows and Light 2 Brother Thaddeus: Rime of the Frostmaiden.
Neil you cast Armour of Agathys and the rest of the party see jagged crystals of ice form around your amour and gear.
Diana, you join Tharnak at the junction and peer in both directions. Your torch light reveals little difference to the left or right hand passages. However, you do hear what sounds like loud snoring echoing from the distance to the left. Yes, definitely snoring!
OOC: I'll use the mipui map links from time to time to clarify various scenes. Hope they are useful. Let me know in chat if you have any questions/feedback :)
Neil, seeing Aedel's and Sinju's less-than-stellar attempts at being sneaky, grunts.
"So... I'm thinking maybe we need a more direct approach. Do any of you gentlemen happen to have a torch?"

Tharnak shakes his head and restrains a curse at the blundering efforts of the rest. He whispers, “Could you guys keep it down?”
If I haven’t offended you, don’t worry. I’m sure I’ll get to you eventually.
"I have candles, but no torches. I also can see well in the dark." (Aedel has a dark vision of 60 feet) Aedel enters the cavern.

Neil takes a torch.
"Thanks, friend," the big man says, holding the torch up as he peers into the tunnel.
"I'm ready to go. And thank you for the torches."

“Right, then.”

Neil takes a moment to cast Armor of Agathys as the party marches towards what is probably sure doom.
"There are large rats and spiders here, hopefully not a problem." Aedel puts his hand on his longsword. "So, where do you think this will go?"
