"Hello, great beast. You look so strong, yet it would be foolish to attack us. We have more metal than meat, and you wouldn't want to waste your energy attacking something useless as us, would you? You have much better things to do, don't you, for a wolf as great as yourself?" Persuasion 21
I pull out my flute again and try to play some peaceful music for him, with performance 22.
Carl readies himself as he sees the the eyes in the distance. “Hrmph” he says, a grunt of distaste as he readies himself for what seems like inevitable combat.
OOC: For the first round I have bumped Aedel to the top of the order for the sake of the narrative. Sinju I have dropped you in at the end of initiative for this one my friend. Feel free to roll for the next round when you join...

Aedel your words are eloquent and convincing; your music is sublime. None amongst the party could fault your talent or execution. However, the Direwolf cares not for music and does not speak or understand common.
Neil, inspired by the talent of your bard companion you surge into action. (Take advantage on your next roll).

Seeing that the wolf is just as angry as ever, Neil will rush past his companions to strike at the snarling beast before it can hurt anyone.
"I sure wish you had just heeded the music and gone back to sleep, pupper," Neil says a bit sadly. "But it looks like you've decided that we look like dinner, so we're going to have to do this the hard way."
With all his strength, the wizard lifts his staff and brings it down on the beast, casting Booming Blade as he does so.
Staff: Attack: 21 Damage: 7
Booming Blade (if the Dire Wolf moves after being hit): 7
With his bonus action, Neil calls upon the eldritch forces... summoning a strange tentacle from the ground behind the wolf. The tentacle lashes out at the beast as well.

Neil you strike the Direwolf on its flank and the beast yelps as the energy of your spell envelopes its body. Then drawing your eldritch tentacle from the ground you whip it toward the creature but it fails to gain purchase on the Direwolfs thick matted fur.
The Direwolf snarls and tries to bite you Neil Attack: 10 Damage: 12 it turns then and charges toward Tharnak. It does not get far however as the energy is released from the booming blade spell. The beast howls in pain and snaps its head from side to side in confusion!
It is at this moment that a gang of screaming goblins pour into the passageway having been alerted to your presence by the howl of the wolf. Armed with short bows they release arrows into the darkness. One for each of you.
Neil Attack: 11 Damage: 6
Tharnak Attack: 7 Damage: 4
Aedel Attack: 12 Damage: 5
Carl Attack: 24 Damage: 11
Diana Attack: 17 Damage: 7
Sinju Attack: 14 Damage: 8
Tharnak and Carl you are up!
OOC: Love the enthusiasm Aedel but you only get one turn per round once we are in combat my friend. In this instance we will call it your bonus action and say that it failed to calm the savage beast :)

Carl gasps and sucks in air unexpectedly as an arrow slams into his chest. His eyes glower and a crazy look comes over his face. “You little f%$^ing beasts! I’ll teach you!!” He pulls the battle axe out of his pack and instead of rushing forward and swinging it, he talks to it and says “Show them! Show them!”
The battle axe head starts to glow with a purplish light and a force of energy shoots out of the end of it, toward the Dire Wolf.
Carl your eldritch blast slams into the dire wolf almost knocking it from its feet. Fur and flesh are torn away and the air if filled with the stench of charred wolf!
(OOC: Damn Tharnak, I would have dearly loved to have given that crit, but the DC for hiding would be set against the wolves passive perception, which sadly is 13. Damn fine rolling though. Take advantage on your next roll as recompense).
Tharnak your arrow hits home with a meaty thud. The beast is not down but it is looking rough!
You have scored some mighty blows against the wolf, but you have little time to celebrate as a towering figure steps around the corner behind the goblins.
The bugbear roars with anger, urging his goblin minions to attack!!
The Direwolf is now considered flanked by the party and any further attacks against it are made with advantage. All six goblins remain, as well as the Bugbear.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Sinju then deciding that it would be best to get rid of the Direwolf first before moving on to the goblins, stabs at the Direwolf once and then follows up with a bonus unarmed strike
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Neil (somehow) manages to avoid the wolf's jaws, and the arrow wizzes past him. But seeing the goblins and now the bugbear emerge makes the big man sigh. This is going to suck... but it's what he signed up for.
With his Bonus Action, Neil strikes at the Dire Wolf with the Tentacle of the Deep:
Attack: 11 Damage: 3
Seeing one of the goblins hit with an arrow, and another one nearly kill Carl, Neil decides to finish off the first and (hopefully) end the second one. He then casts Magic Missile, sending one dart at the goblin who was struck by Tharnak, dealing 4 Force damage to it, and sends the remaining two darts at the goblin who just scored a crit on Carl, dealing 6 Force damage.
If it is safe to do so after making his attacks (that is to say, if he can do so without provoking an attack of opportunity from the Dire Wolf), Neil will attempt to retreat to some kind of cover with his movement.
