Mr. Witch stands to his full height "Hold your tongue bird. We have been running this carnival for the past century. We can handle a troublemaker, but disrupting the carnival goers experience is not tolerated. If it were up to just me I would have booted all of you out of the carnival, but Mr. Light has a soft heart and is willing to hear your side of the story. If you want food then go to the Feasting Orchard"
"Now now Mr, WItch. Everyone deserve to tell their side of story. I just want a clear picture who did what during that disturbance. You can understand why we as owners would like to know" says Mr. Light
Hisashi just stands in the corner stressed at Mr. Gan's failed intimidation, you see her tapping her tail on the ground in a somewhat rhythmic tempo. "Oh geeze" she mutters.

"Now now Mr, WItch. Everyone deserve to tell their side of story. I just want a clear picture who did what during that disturbance. You can understand why we as owners would like to know" says Mr. Light
Valrieth, partially obscured by Gan-Re, casts Produce Flame while Mr. Light is talking. Gan-Re sees a dim, flickering glow coming from behind his wing. He wonders whether he's manifesting a new power. Do his feathers glow? But then he feels a gentle touch from Val, pushing his wing back down. "It's OK, Gan-Re."
Val stands, holding a small flame cupped in both of her hands in front of her belly. Her head is tilted down, nose toward the floor but head tilted so that one eye is looking up toward Mr. Light. (She finds it easier to talk to Mr. Light even if she finds them both a bit frightening.) "Please don't be angry with my friend. He is very brave, and just like a Champion in all of the old stories, he always defends his friends. But I understand your question now."
As Val gets going, the words just seem to tumble out. She speaks quickly but clearly, sounding a bit breathless, still holding the little flame in her hands as though the flame gives her courage to go on.
"We met Candlefoot the Clown this morning. He was living a tragic story in real life, unable to propose to his true love because his voice had been stolen! I felt so bad for him, and we wanted to help. We had heard gossip about this kenku who had caused so much mischief at the carnival already, and when we saw her by the Silversong Lake, I knew that the Fates had brought us there to help. But the kenku was far away from us in a crowd of Big People, and I'm just a little harengon. Even if we could get to the kenku, how could we hope to catch her? I was worried that she might escape, and we would lose our chance.
"So, yes, it was me. I called upon Nature herself to hold the kenku for us. Unfortunately, the kenku still escaped, but not before we convinced her to give Candlefoot his voice back.
"I am very sorry about causing such a disturbance and frightening the other guests. But I knew that no one could be harmed by that spell. It can be startling, but that spell won't hurt anyone. In the end, Candlefoot was able to propose to Palasha, and she accepted. That's a wonderful outcome to all this business, don't you think?
"We certainly didn't intend to disturb your carnival. It's wonderful here! While I was born in Faerun, my parents are from the Feywild. You can imagine how excited I was when I heard that there was a carnival from Prismeer -- a kingdom or realm of the Feywild! -- right here in Faerun. I had to come see it! And we've had to much fun today. I actually hoped that there might be a Fey Crossing in the park itself. I've always wanted to visit the Feywild since I was a little kid listening to my parents' stories."
As she winds down, the last couple of sentences are quieter, almost like she's talking to herself. When she runs out of words, Val continues to stand there, panting slightly and holding a flame cupped in her hands.
Mr. Light puts a hand on Val's shoulder "Thank you for telling the truth. Though I do ask to please be mindful of other carnival goers. If you see the kenku again then just notify a carnival hand. They can take care of it."
Mr. Witch opens his pocket watch which seems overly complex with various spinning gears. "We better get back to work, there is much to do before the Big top extravaganza"
"Quite right Mr. Witch. Please come see us when we perform later. Burly please show them out" says Mr. Light
Burly the Bugbear gestures for everyone to leave and to follow him out of the staff area. Once outside the thorny hedge Burly removes his jack-o’-lantern helmet, revealing a worried expression. “Bad things have been happening at the carnival for a while. People and things have been going missing. My bosses know more than they’re telling, but their hands are tied somehow. You’re the first people I’ve met who might be able to set things right. Witch and Light are good guys, but you’ll need leverage to make them spill the beans. I believe the best way to get leverage is to steal Mr. Witch's pocket watch. Its call the Witchlight watch. Without it the carnival is unable to stay on schedule. Will you help me"

Valrieth lets out a big, shaky sigh as they finally leave Misters Witch and Light. She shakes her hands, and the flame goes out. Relieved not to have been locked up or kicked out of the carnival, she hops down from the wagon. She laughs happily as she takes Hisa's hand, looking forward to the next carnival ride.

This request extinguishes Val's playful mood instantly. It was a risk casting a spell in a crowd earlier, and she wasn't sure whether admitting to it was going to get her friends in trouble. But as soon as they're done with that episode, someone is asking them to taken an even bigger and more overt risk!
Suddenly serious, Val looks to Finley questioningly.
(Does Val think that Burly is being honest about his goal? Insight14)
Burly says "The best time to swipe the watch would be during the Big Top Extravaganza since that is the only time Mr. Witch and Mr. Light are separated. I'll help where I can, but I don't want the bosses to know as I would lose my job and home. Now there will be no violence to the bosses. Without the bosses the carnival would fall apart. Now here is some information that will help you plan the heist.
First the Witchlight monarch is chosen by Mr. Light sceptor the Witchlight Vane. The bosses has no control on who is chosen as the Witchlight monarch, but its always a guest who contributes the most to the happiness of the carnival. The monarch is given a charm that lets them fly.
Second, Mr. Witch's watch is connected to his pocket by a waistcoat chain. So whoever steals it needs to break or unfasten the chain.
Third, Candlefoot and Palasha might help you as they are good eggs. Dirlagraun the magnificent Displacer Beast may also help. Don't ask Thaco the clown with the bubble pipe as he is untrustworthy"
The Big Top Extravaganza starts in 1 hour so you should have enough time to eat and think of a plan.
"Well damn... dis a lot to process, but for a good cause yes? Les get some food and talk plans...oh my head hurts thinkin about it but it's what we gotta do no?"
"Hmm, ah doubt tha' we'll become monarch, unless we really start makin' people laugh an' be happy quickly so tha's out fer sure."Finley says, watching Burly carefully. "Agree tha' we can get some food, aye, but we 'ave only an hour ta put everythin' in place. Ah vote tha' we should talk wit' th' happy couple first and then Dirlagraun, whom is where?"

Gan-Re trusts everyone's judgement and is happy to go along with the heist, Aarakocra don’t really understand ownership anyway and therefore it doesn’t seem too naughty to him. After some thought he says ‘Let's go and see Candlefoot and Palasha and have food with them, they can tell us if this is a good idea or not and how they can help. After all, they are our new friends. I don’t need to be monarch to fly, but we have made lots of people happy by playing hide and seek, being nice to the pug and helping Candlefoot. Finley do you have some tools for cutting chains?’

"Is the watch chain just a regular chain? I know that you cannot be seen helping us, Burly, but is it a little chain that you could break with your bare hands? Or will we need some tool to break it?"
Dirlagraun the magnificent Displacer Beast may also help.
(OOC: Does know what a Displacer Beast is? I wasn't sure which skill that would be, so I rolled both nature4 and arcana17 (in the game log.))

"You've been very helpful, Burly! Thank you! Will you be at the Big Top Extravaganza when it starts in case we need you again?"
Mr. light scepter is not intelligent. It just tracks who has been the most helpful. So that person becomes the Witchlight Monarch.
Val does not know what a displacer beast is. Yes it would be nature check
Burly has never touched the chain so he does not know, he assumes its a regular chain. Burly will be there, but its up the party to pull off the heist. Expect limited help from the Burly.
Finley scratches his cheek and says to Gan-Re,"Ah, 'ave some small tools like pliers and," he coughs, "thieves tools." He coughs again before continuing, "but if ye give me some time ah might be able to rig somethin' ta be sharp enough ta cut through a normal chain." (Could try to make some kind of jury rigged bolt cutters with some of the smithing tools and daggers?)
