Eb, looking at the gnome, thinks to himself, Enthusiastic and reckless...maybe not the best combination. Out loud he says, "Instructions no, but this is supposed to be training not guessing. On an expedition we would be given objectives to achieve, goals to accomplish. The point of training is to learn not just wonder about willy-nilly. I, by no means, mean to wait here for Donavan to show back up and I do love your eagerness to get started, but perhaps looking to see if there are instructions here telling what our goal is would be a better use of your time? If your plan is to just wonder around aimlessly, then by all means feel free." Eb continues to look for what they are supposed to be do.
"Oh I know that silly. Obviously we will have an objective on an actual mission." She continues, without a hint of hurt or malice in her voice. "And in this case our objective is to complete the course!" She laughs and makes a dismissive waving motion , "I think you're just overthinking things." Then she stops to think again. "Although, I suppose there may be something we are supposed to retrieve in here...Hmmm, but don't you think Donavan would have told us that before running off?" She shrugs than giggles again, "Oh now you've got me overthinking things. You're the leader not me, so I guess that's your job. Hehe." Sighing, she turns around and continues inspecting the tunnel, "Though I suppose I will wait for you to come down here so you all can keep me from wondering around willy-nilly as you say."

Dhara is significantly less gung-ho than Raven... as the only dwarf woman on the team she doesn't want to screw something up and make herself look like an idiot. That being said, she can't help but be impressed by the gnome's spirit.
"It sounds to me like we need to take a couple minutes to try an' figure out what we're doing and try to make a plan," Dhara says. "I'll be honest, I ain't actually an expert on mining... I was hired on with the team because I'm rather well-learned in the arts of magic..."
Ebgrun investigates the boxes around the entrance, and finds some clearly printed instructions on the lid of each container. While the instructions on two of the three boxes are almost identical, though a different runic symbol denotes a difference in the contents, the third box has next to no instructions at all.
Unpacking them, Box 1 has a large device that looks like a shoulder-mounted gun, with a large brace that wraps around the torso, having a few tools and attachments on it for stabilization and controlled work that suggest some kind of powered digger. Box 2 contains a smaller rig, also shoulder-mounted, with a few dials and indicators. The runic instructions identify this object as a "scanner," though its function is not yet entirely clear. The instructions on Boxes 1 and 2 instruct a literate dwarf miner to place a hand upon the primary interface panel and to activate the machine with arcane energy.
Box 3 contains small, fat ingot-shaped containers of durable wood and glass construction. A reddish-yellow liquid hangs suspended inside, and the boxes instructions read: "Shake well before use. 1-hour use, 6-hour recharge." Beneath a goodly number of these objects lie a healthy supply of rope (4-60ft lengths of toughened Leybenrak-style braided fibers - standard issue for heavy use) and a complete set of climbing gear. Some of it looks slightly worn, but it is still in good-enough shape.
Thondor looks ahead at the tunnel entrance, and notices that the construction is sturdy, if a little dated. It is unlikely that the tunnel will collapse in the immediate future. The instructions on the boxes, currently being looked over by Ebgrun, probably give more details.
Raven boldly saunters into the cave, immediately noticing a plaque carved about 1-inch deep into the far wall's surface. "WELCOME TO TRAINING COURSE 2. CHALLENGE AHEAD!"
OoC Kasian: As a DM do you prefer in post rolls or in campaign log rolls?
- I tend to prefer in post, as it's easier for a one-stop glance!
OoC Gawain: OK! Sorry for the long delay! Unfortunately, just so you all know, my Tuesday/Wednesday rotation is often somewhat crowded, this week especially. If I don't post for a few days towards the beginning of the week, fear not - I have not abandoned this game! I am excited for what lies ahead - the gist is to get familiar with some homebrew tech for dwarven mines and to try out one possible system for navigating long tunnels. I'd rather not narrate super long dungeon crawls each time you decide to leave your mine, after all.

Following Ebgrun, Branmar approaches box #2 with professional curiosity. Wondering what new mining tech Deep Rock Inc. has come up with, he begins to inspect the scanner with particular interest in its construction and quality followed by how it actually works (casts guidance on himself while investigating). While looking in the box Branmar pats the bag hanging at his side and says to the group offhandedly, "My bag here can carry quite a bit of stuff weightlessly if needed. Let me know if I ever need to stash stuff in it."
Ebgrun goes through the boxes and instructions, then looks over the crew. He calls them all together and says, "Still not sure what they want us to look for, but we have some equipment here that we should familiarize ourselves with. Thondor, you mind trying out the powered digger," he points to the large shoulder mounted device, "and Branmar, you seemed interested in the...scanner? Wanna give it a shot?" Eb pulls out one of the wood and glass containers that contain the reddish-yellow liquid, looks at it, places it back in the box and says, "I'm pretty sure these are for light." ((How many of these are in the box?)) He sees the climbing gear and asks, "How many of you are familiar with climbing gear?" and starts to pull out the rope.

Austig opens his pouch and takes out a small wax tablet and styling (Cartographer's Tools) and marks down the dimensions of the mine, as well as the other exit(s) to the mine. He then slowly walks around the chamber, touching the walls in an attempt to determine age and means by which the mine was made.
Raven seems unbothered by the fact that she walked right past those objects. She stops just in front of the sign, pausing to read it, then turns back to the group. She notes the men pulling out an picking up some sort of heavy looking machinery. That's fine, let the men do the heavy lifting. Some of those items look fun, but they are all likely to big for her. She glances back at the sign nods, then makes her way back over to the group. She stands on tip toes to look into the barrel with the bottles of yellow liquid and grab one, "I do believe you're right Eb. That would be my guess as well. Not that I need it of course." She giggles, hopping down from that barrel to move to the one with climbing gear. She stands on top of a rock next to this one in order to reach what's inside. "I'm quite familiar with climbing gear." She says cheerfully, "I've used it plenty of time on my previous expeditions." She sifts through the various harnesses until she finds one small enough for her, then she grabs the ropes, clasps, and other tools needed for climbing. Slinging the ropes over her shoulder, she puts the other tools, and the bottle of yellow liquid, into her pack. "Are we all ready now? The first challenge is up ahead! That sign down there says so. Hehe." Without waiting for the others, she starts back down towards the sign.
As Raven is about to wander off again, Eb clears his throat, large smile on his face, "Since you have such extensive knowledge with climbing gear Raven, be a dear and help out those who may not have as much...your help is greatly appreciated."
The little gnome's shoulders slump as she stops in her tracks and lets out a soft huff. This guy is the boss after all, better do as he says. Spinning on her heel, she stalks back to the group, then smiles sweetly at the dwarf. "I figured they would learn on the fly. That's how I learned hehe. But if you insist, I suppose I can run them through the basics." She pulls the roll of rope and harness off her shoulder and holds it up in front of her. She'd never imagined that she, a gnome, would end up teaching dwarves of all people how to use mining equipment. This thought causes her usual smile to grow even wider as she explains how to use the harness and latches, what to do and what not to do, and so on.
When Raven starts to help a sardonic grin crosses Eb's face and he says, "Thank you so much for sharing your expertise Raven, we should be able to get moving soon."

I'm ready when everyone else is...

(Same, tbh...)
(Apologies - week turned busy! Post will be up either tonight or tomorrow evening!)
Sounds good :)
